‘Beacons’ coming to Xbox Live

After the Microsoft E3 2011 press conference, it was revealed that a new feature was coming to Xbox Live.  This feature would be called Beacons, and it would enable you to connect with your friends on Xbox Live and Facebook in an easier fashion. Once a Beacon is set, it apparently tells  XBL and FAcebook that you want to play a game. Subsequently “Xbox LIVE lets you know when friends are playing or want to play the same game. With Beacons, no matter what you’re currently doing on Xbox LIVE your friends know that it’s ok to ask you to play your Beaconed games. It’s about making it easier for you to share and discover games and multiplayer opportunities with friends on Xbox LIVE.”

So, hooray for more annoying achievement sound pop-ups that don’t signal new achievements?

Hole in the Wall coming to XBLA this year

The latest E3 Xbox Live Arcade reveal is that of Hole in the Wall, a Kinect-enabled downloadable title based on the popular television programme of the same name.

For those who don’t know, Hole in the Wall is a gameshow which pits two teams against each other who score points based on how well the managed to make the necessary shape and fit through the cut-out shape on the wall. With the pressures of time as the wall creeps towards you, you have to think on your feet and make the right shape or end up in the drink.

This is so incredibly suited to Kinect, I can’t believe someone hadn’t considered it sooner. Fingers crossed the developers behind it can pull it off, because if they do it convincingly, it could be a real hit.

‘Yoostar on MTV’ coming soon, previewed at E3

Yoostar’s social “video karaoke” performance platform introduces a new way for fans to interact with the MTV universe as Yoostar Entertainment Group (www.yoostar.com) and MTV today announced Yoostar on MTV.  Making its debut this week at the 2011 E3 Expo, Yoostar on MTV utilises the Kinect to offer players fun and excitement as they are transported directly into some of the best and most memorable MTV shows, programming and events. I can already imagine some scenes from ‘The Hills’ which have potential to be amusing.

In addition to unveiling the new content of Yoostar on MTV at E3, Yoostar will showcase its new technology upgrades.  VGS 2.0, a revolution in Yoostar’s performance video technology, working in conjunction with the Xbox 360 Kinect to enhance in-game image quality and deliver virtual green screen performance like never before.  Yoostar on MTV will also include full support of the Xbox 360 4GB Console, giving players the ability to save and upload their scenes without the need for a hard drive.

Yoostar on MTV will be on display at the 2011 E3 Expo in meeting room #309 in the Yoostar Entertainment Private Meeting Room #309 in the South Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center.  To highlight the public E3 debut of the game, Snoop Dogg will be making a public appearance on Wednesday, June 8 @ 11:00 a.m. in the Yoostar Entertainment Private Meeting Room.

To-Fu: The Trials of Chi has just received its first free update – making the martial artist’s adventures even more expansive.

Developer HotGen has unveiled the latest version, which adds Game Center support complete with 22 unique achievements which are sure to please fans and newcomers alike. In addition, adjustments have also been made based on player feedback, the biggest of which is the ability to now skip To-Fu’s – slightly shorter – death sequence.

As you can see from our review of the game it’s well worth picking up, especially now the planned update has arrived to subtly improve the game.

Lady Gaga Born This Way Revenge E3 2011

In what is the most bizarre announcement of E3 2011, “Lady Gaga Born This Way Revenge” was announced and released simultaneously for iOS. For those unfamiliar, this is another in a long line of “Tap Tap Revenge” games which are essentially Guitar Hero for iOS.

Yes, it’s a music rhythm game and yes, it’s Lady Gaga. The Little Monsters world wide just bought themselves an app. They have the following “awesome” features available:

  • In-game Mother Monster twitter feed.
  • Haus of Gaga event information.
  • An in-app Gaga bio.
  • 17 tracks with the ability to see those zany lyrics of hers.
  • 3 Little Monsters chat-rooms.
  • And even a rhythm game of some sort underneath all that.

So from what I gather, the game is about Gaga singing along-side a group of little monsters on an epic adventure to return them to their mother monster in the haus of gaga, leading to a twist ending in which she is revealed to have been mother monster all along. Or it could just be another rhythm game set to Lady Gaga songs. I personally think the former sounds more entertaining.

Lady Gaga Born This Way Revenge is available now on the app store for $4.99 USD.

Animal Crossing 3DS loaded with New Features & Zelda…

Nintendo quietly revealed a new trailer for the upcoming Animal Crossing 3DS at E3 that included quite a few surprises. From the general appearance of everything though, this title seems to be closely resembling “City Folk” as the environments, neighbors, and the usual  Animal Crossing fare are still very present.

The trailer mainly shows the main character walking around the town, exploring the landscape with the gentle music playing in the background. New features for the franchise are also shown such as the new ability to swim as well as camping with other neighbors outdoors. All of those little things were nice to see, but the most interesting thing to see in the clip was the main character quickly dress as Link and pull out the Master Sword with the tri-force emblem in the background. I want to say that this confirms that Zelda’s 25th Anniversary will be present in the game, but as of now it is a bit too soon to tell. Much like many of the reveals by Nintendo, a date is still in question for this new Animal Crossing title, but going off the Zelda reference alone I would guess Holiday 2011.

I think Animal Crossing 3DS still has a lot to show for itself, as there is no way that Nintendo will leave out a streetpass/spotpass function as it fits with the function perfectly. Get a glimpse of the new trailer below.

Paper Mario 3DS announced at E3 2011

Nintendo has announced at their E3 conference that Paper Mario will be folding itself into an upcoming 3DS game. The game itself appears to be a cross-between Super Paper Mario for Wii and the critically acclaimed Paper Mario 2: The Thousand Year Door for the Gamecube.

Mixing the platforming of Super Paper Mario with the RPG elements of Paper Mario 1 and 2, Paper Mario 3DS looks to provide one hell of a gaming experience.

The series itself stands apart from other Mario games with it’s quirky gameplay and paper-like art style. Fans of the series have eagerly anticipated a return of the RPG element of the series after a somewhat disappointing outing in Super Paper Mario for the wii and it seems that Nintendo has listened.

We do not have a release date as of yet, but we thus far have an excellent trailer to keep you from tearing up with anticipation. Check it out below.

Kirby Wii Announced; Brings the Mascot back to his roots…

Many months ago, a small clip surfaced on Nintendo’s Japanese website, displaying an all new Kirby game for the Wii. After a new trailer and announcement, Nintendo have finally revealed “Kirby Wii” (working title) for a future release on what else…The Nintendo Wii. This of course looks to be the same Kirby game that we seen displayed years ago as a tech demo for the Gamecube, with Kirby going back to his side-scrolling, enemy-inhaling roots in an all new adventure, although a lot looks to have been tweaked since then.

After watching the trailer, this game really seems to be a true sequel to Kirby 64 as the visuals, combat, and enemies all strike a great resemblance to the Nintendo 64 classic. New abilities are also earned by inhaling new enemies, such as a cowboy Kirby armed with a whip, a giant cleat ability allowing the pink fluff to destroy enemies with spiked shoes, and a “mega” attack that shoots a giant star out after several items are sucked up. Multi-player will also be featured in this game and judging from the trailer, up to four players will be able to control Kirby, a bandanna’d Waddle Dee, Meta-Knight & King Dedede in a New Super Mario Bros. style.

Sadly, we still have yet to receive a date for this new Kirby adventure. We do however have a new trailer though and once we receive a date or more news we will be sure to let you know.

Mario Party 9 Announced for the Nintendo Wii!

While Mario Party 9 wasn’t actually announced until sometime after Nintendo’s E3 event, the news of everybody’s favorite party game returning is still a very pleasant surprise. Mario Party 9 is also headed to the Nintendo Wii sometime later this year, which is great to see considering the sparse amount of titles that the console has seen this year.

Along with an announcement, the game also received a trailer that shows many new mini-games in tow. Mini-games look to include Goomba bowling, button-controlled repelling, and several other Mario themed activities that are sure to pump some life into the famed franchise. Aside from the new mini-games, not much looks to have changed for Mario Party 9, but with this franchise change is rather unnecessary. You can check out the debut trailer below and once this title is officially dated, we will be sure to bring you an update so stay tuned.
