Sometimes, it just isn’t enough to have an AR card. Even an app on a smartphone is not always handy. And so, a certain gentleman named Cranberryzero (not a real name) got a tattoo on his arm that replicates a Mii AR card. Guess what!? It works too. A 3DS camera, when pointed at the arm of said person, will display a holographic Mii. The tattoo works best in dark light, as the light messes up the camera’s ability to make out the tattoo from the guy’s skin. Nonetheless, this “invention” is pretty cool, but it will be awkward someday.
Red Faction – A history of the franchise
Red Faction: Armageddon is coming to a console near you soon, and this franchise has had quite an explosive history. However, how does this new game fit into the existing franchise? Mike Kulas and Jim Boone of Volition are ready to sit down and explain it all to you in the destructive video below. Although it strongly encourages you buy the game, it is still an interesting walk down memory lane. Well, not my memories, but maybe somebody around here remembers the good ‘ole days. Master Abbott perhaps? Or you? What is your favorite memory of the franchise?
Red Factions: Origins trailer released
SyFy’s upcoming film is original and coming to TV later this year on June 4. Surprisingly, the video posted below is actually quite good, and hopefully it will redefine the way that video game movies have been presented in the past. This film will bridge the gap between the Red Faction: Guerrilla game and the new, soon to be released, Red Faction: Armageddon video game. While creating this link, it will tell the story of Alec Mason’s children. Alec was the hero and rebel leader of RF: Guerrilla. This screenplay was written by “writer and producer Andrew Kreisberg (Warehouse 13, Fringe, Eli Stone), based on a story developed by Paul DeMeo (The Rocketeer, The Flash, Viper).”
Make-A-Wish and PopCap create a 9 year old iOS developer
Nothing is better than when a 9 year old boy who has leukemia can have his dreams fulfilled. Luckily, PopCap and the Make-A-Wish Foundation exist to make such dreams come true. They have helped one little Mr. Owain Weinert be a proud creator of a real time strategy game called Allied Star Police. This game is set to be a hit on the iPad and iPhone when it releases later this year. When purchased, the profits from the game will go towards the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Watch the video below to see the party that PopCap threw for the fledgling video game developer and his friends.

MX vs ATV Alive trailer focuses on… DLC
The new MX vs. ATV game is featured in a new trailer from THQ, and it does look pretty sssiiiiick.
See what I did there? Making “sick” elongated so that it relates to the sport of motocross racing? Yea, you see. 😉
But besides that, the game will hopefully be pretty good and reinvent the franchise. If this video is any indication, micro- transactions in the game will be implemented and if the customization options and DLC options are as extensive as those featured in the trailer, that could be pretty innovative. Although 240 Microsoft Points for a costume seems quite, um, expensive.
Video games at Redbox will go nationwide on June 17, 2011
Automated movie and Blu-ray rental chain Redbox will be putting video games into their kiosks in 21,000 out of 27,000 locations in the USA starting on June 17. Although this program has been in beta for the better part of 2 years, the locations involved in the test only covered 5,000 of the rental locations. According to the press release, “Redbox has rented more than one million video games in less than two years at these locations, underscoring the popularity of video game play in America.”
Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii video games will be available for $2 a day. Most of the time, Redbox focuses on new releases in the media industry. As is Redbox policy, there are no late fines, but after a predetermined amount of time, your credit card will stop being charged and the game will be yours. For example, DVD rentals cost $1/day and after 24 days, the DVD is yours.
Blockbuster game rentals are priced at $8.99 for a 5 day week and Gamefly runs $15.95 – $29.95 for 1-3 games out at a time.
I can’t wait for this and I hope that all areas will be served soon, especially rural ones.
GLaDOS in LEGO form is terrifyingly kiddy and awesome
One gamer who loves his toys as much as he likes video games combined his passions by creating a Lego version of GLaDOS.
According to the pictures and description though, SOMEONE else created this amazingly cool monstrosity. Check it out:
“Oh, it’s you. It’s been a long time. How have you been? I’ve been really busy being constructed of acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. You know, after you murdered me?
Fortunately the Aperture Science Emergency Recreational Building Element Reconstruction Initiative has provided me with a new body. Consequently, testing can recommence immediately.”

Rival Turf Arrives on the Virtual Console…
It is a pretty slow news day as far as Nintendo’s digital releases go, but for fans of arcadey beat-em ups, Rival Turf has now arrived on the Virtual Console. Now before you go off and judge this title on it’s awful cover art (which yes, it certainly is a contender for our bad boxarts column), from what I remember, I enjoyed this game for the most part as it reeks of memories of backwards jeans and graffiti covered wooden fences.
Players take control of Jack Flack or Oozie Nelson as they…well, I don’t really remember the plot quite honestly, but beat-em ups like this don’t really need a story and are sheerly to remind us of the many Streets of Rage clones we seen in the 90’s. Of course this game can be purchased for the standard 800 point price tag and Rival Turf is available as of today, so go get it or these thugs will come to your house and rip the tag right off your mattress. Be afraid.
