Live Playable Angry Birds Display

Yeah, we posted a video of this same event a while ago, but it was a fuzzy mobile-phone recording. Apparently that was an amateur recording of the filming of an ad for T-Mobile. Now it’s been professionally recorded and edited, and it looks much better.

I really wish I had’ve been there, it looks pretty awesome. I wanna kidnap one of those pigs and take it home.

Have a look.

The End of South Park?

I know, I know, we’re primarily a video games site. But we do review movies and TV series, and this bit of TV news personally hit me hard.

The residents of South Park have managed to defend their town from every kind of threat – aliens, cults, zombies, killer turkeys, Wal-Mart, immigrants from the future, Cthulhu, people from Jersey, and 200 pissed-off celebrities – but the latest episode posed a danger they may not be able to avoid: the cynicism of the show’s creators.

South Park usually ends with some kind of opinion or warped message, but in the latest episode, titled “You’re Getting Old”, that message may be that the creators have had enough.

In the episode, Stan is diagnosed with a severe case of cynicism, and begins to realise that everything, from ice cream sundaes to L.A. Noire, is crap. Meanwhile, his parents declare they are unhappy, and Sharon’s speech to Randy at the end holds a clear second meaning, regarding the fate of the show itself.

Sharon: “How much longer can we keep doing this? It’s like the same sh*t just happens over and over, then in a week it just all resets until it happens again. Every week it’s kind of the same story in a different way, but it just keeps getting more and more ridiculous.”

Creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker have been at it for 15 years, and their contract with Comedy Central requires seven more episodes, to be aired in September/October. After that, there is a chance they will renew for another season or two, but unfortunately, it seems they might not want to.

The episodes this season have poked fun at Apple, the royal wedding, EA Sports, and this generation’s music, but they haven’t been as sharp or focused as in previous years. The signs of fatigue have been there.

But if this is the final stretch, one thing we can be sure of is an epic series finale. These guys have shown a knack for fantastic narrative writing on a large scale, evident in the regular multi-part episodes of South Park (such as Imaginationland and the 200th episode Mohammed controversy), and the 1999 film based on the show. A final multi-part episode could see off the series in a spectacular fashion. In the past they have even expressed interest in doing another film.

It’s going to be a long few months until the show resumes, to find out the fate of one of the smartest, best-written comedies on television.

As expected, this edition will include everything a fan of Oblivion could want and will be encased in a stunning steelbook case.

    Bastion – E3 2011 Trailer

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Supergiant Games have been showcasing their up and coming action RPG ‘Bastion’ at this year’s E3. This indie game is cited as being of the more interesting games of this year and has already been nominated for “Excellence In Visual Art” and “Excellence In Audio” categories at the 2011 Independent Games Festival Awards.

The game is set in a crumbling world with players attempting to recreate and reconstruct a new world out of the remnants of the past. Bastion is fuelled by a very strong art direction, the game features very lush and imaginative artwork. Interestingly the game will also feature a innovative reactive narration system, this means that throughout the entire game everything will be narrated even the player’s actions in real time.

Bastion is induced in XBLA’s Summer of Arcade and will be available for Xbox 360 and PC.

Lego City Stories to Break Out on the Wii U…

When the Wii U was announced yesterday during Nintendo’s big E3 conference, many were at the edge of their seat to see the first game headed to the new console. Shortly after, Reggie announced Lego City Stories, which will be published by Nintendo and developed by TellTale Games. Though a Lego game isn’t quite what we were quite expecting for the first Wii U announcement, it still looks to have some promise even though details are still sparse at the moment.

Lego City Stories will be the first Lego game in a complete open world. Honestly from the small bit of footage we were shown, it looks to sort of resemble GTA as it has a very similar HUD and of course is based in an open world city environment. I enjoy many of TellTale’s lego titles for the most part and being on the Wii U, Lego City Stories could have a ton of interesting features attached. There still is quite a wait ahead for Lego City Stories at the moment though as it should launch with or shortly after the Wii U in 2012.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 Headed to the U.S. this August…

Not too long ago, we brought you some rather gloomy news as the servers for Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker were finally coming to an end. Nintendo have fully redeemed that sadness at E3 though as the company will be publishing the once Japanese exclusive Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 for an August release. Many of you are probably familiar with the Dragon Quest Monsters franchise, but if you are not, this title will perfect to get introduced to the age-old franchise. The Dragon Quest Monsters series is a mix of Pokemon & Dragon Quest, in which the player must “scout” (instead of catching) different monsters and then use the said creatures to battle foes throughout the game.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 looks to bring even more life to the series with up to eight-player local play, online multiplayer tournaments, and a Tag Mode that can let players recruit monsters from Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation & Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. Since releasing in Japan back in March, Joker 2 has dominated the DS charts in Japan and hopefully will be met with the same reaction when it finally comes to the states. You can check out the first ever english trailer for the game, fresh out of this year’s E3 below and get ready as Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 2 launches August 28th.

Nintendo end the show revealing the rest of the year’s huge line-up

Nintendo certainly know how to put on a show. Personally, I would have to give this year’s E3 to them based on the Wii U and the huge amount of new titles that were announced at the event. Whether your a fan or not, you have to admit there was something for everyone here and by the looks of it, Nintendo are finally ready to compete with Microsoft and Sony.

You can check out the rest of the photos below and stay tuned as this busy year is just getting started.

Tekken Hybrid will be exclusive to the PS3

Namco Bandai is soon releasing Tekken Hybrid, a collection of the 3D  film Tekken Blood Vengeance 3D and the Tekken Tag Tournament HD game. More content that is of yet unannounced will be on the disc too.  Tekken Hybrid will be exclusive to the PS3.

“Tekken Hybrid is breaking new ground for both the Tekken series and the movie industry, with a full length 3D CG animation film shown in the theatres, while the home entertainment release will include special features such as a full HD version of the acclaimed title, Tekken Tag Tournament, which has been one of the highly requested titles from fans of Tekken series,” said Tekken creator and project director Katsuhiro Harada. “Of course, Tekken Tag Tournament HD will also include a version of the popular Tekken Bowl as well. And the content announced today might not be all we have up our sleeves for Tekken Hybrid.”
