Madden NFL 12 is Out Now!

For all those NFL gaming fans out there, the wait is over for this year’s installment as copies hit retail stores across Australia today. You can purchase it for 360, PS3 as well as on the Android and iOS Marketplaces!

With an all new collision and Player Dynamic system, this year’s edition promises to offer extensive improvements upon all areas of the game and we can’t wait to get our hands on a copy. Players are said to be more unique than ever with styles changing in accordance with the progress of the match.

Madden NFL 12 was the first title to use EA Sport’s Season Ticket program. Season Ticket subscribers were provided full digital access to Madden NFL 12 three days before retail launch, something EA will apparently integrate into other titles in the future.

Madden is putting you closer to the action than ever before, and we’ll have our review out as soon as possible so keep your eyes open.

PlayStation 3 Sales Surge over 400% in Australia

Sony Computer Entertainment Australia today revealed a PlayStation 3 sales surge of over 400% in the week following the implementation of the recent price drop across the 160GB and 320GB models in Australia. This is based on official NPD Group Australia sales data from retailers, collected from around the country.

“This new price point really represents fantastic value for money as PlayStation 3 delivers full HD games, Blu-ray capability, plus music, movies, catch-up TV and more on demand,” said Michael Ephraim, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Australia.

“Australians love not only games, but also the quality home entertainment PS3 provides. Sales are booming because PlayStation 3 is the best device to connect to your TV, at incredible value, to provide the ultimate home entertainment experience.”

The new recommended retail price of the cutting-edge entertainment device, PlayStation 3, at just RRP $349.95 for 160GB and RRP $449.95 for 320GB model, represents a significant saving of approximately $150 on the former recommend retail price. It was effective in-stores on 22 August, 2011.

The sales momentum is set to continue in the lead up to Christmas with the release of highly anticipated blockbuster titles such as Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception and Resistance 3 as well as PlayStation Move enabled titles such as DanceStar Party from the creators of the smash hit SingStar.

High octane shooter Bodycount has been released in Australia and New Zealand, battering it’s way on to shelves in an effort to take it’s place amongst the already packed FPS genre. Codemasters latest seems to be going for a light hearted approach, with the emphasis being on how fun it is to blow stuff up rather than any world/universe endangering crisis. Indeed the plot details stretch as far as “fight on behalf of The Network to bring down the mysterious ‘Target’.”

So it’s all about no nonsense, shoot ’em up fun – no bad thing! The release trailer isn’t exactly subtle about it, and shows off the overpowered weaponry, destructible environments and super intense gun battles. The main campaign is of course backed up with both a co-op and competitive multiplayer, where the destructible environments should add a nice element of strategy to taking down your foes.

Bodycount looks like a fun title, so it will be interesting to see if a new FPS can make a dent in the market. For more info on the game check out it’s offical Facebook page.

Flame Red 3DS Dated For Australia..

If you happen to live in Australia and have been holding out on getting a 3DS, you might want to wait just a couple weeks longer as Nintendo have announced that the region would indeed be receiving the Flame Red 3DS on September 22nd.

So far, the available colors to choose from have been Aqua and Black, but thankfully the big N made a small statement today that confirmed the new shade will be gracing store shelves in the coming weeks. If you are reading this and are in the U.S. however, you just have a little over a week to go as the Flame Red 3DS hits American shops on September 9th. So what color will you/do you own?

Bayonetta 2 Rumor Debunked by Platinum…

Yesterday we brought you some rather exciting news on rumors of a Bayonetta sequel due to a tweet from Hideki Kamiya. In a rather disappointing twist however, fellow Platinum producer Atsushi Inaba stated “There is no such announcement!”, killing the hopes of Bayonetta fans everywhere for the time being. Yes internet, we got trolled by Kamiya and lessons have been learned on taking developers’ tweets seriously.

While this news is a bit sad, I can say that a sequel is still inevitable due to Bayonetta’s success. As of now though, we just need to keep perfecting those scores while we patiently wait for some actual “news” to drop on a sequel or future spin-off. As for Kamiya, I’m sure he is petting a white cat while sitting in a throne, laughing at us all.

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken Hits the PSN this October….

Some of you may or may not be familiar with the browser based side-scroller by the name of Rocketbirds: Revolution. It may be just a flash game to some, but since release it certainly caught the eye of many and has made quite a name for itself on the indie game scene over the past couple of years. Developers Ratloop Asia are looking to continue the growing IP’s success, and have now announced Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken for the PSN.

Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken will take the same formula from Rocketbirds: Revolution and expand upon it with new characters, missions, puzzles, exclusive music videos, retro cut scenes and more. This plot will have players take the role of Hardboiled Chicken and attempt to save the land of Albatropolis from an evil Penguin regime. Sounds pretty awesome, right? To add to this plot, a separate story can be played via co-op where players must team up to save the general’s daughter.

Here is a more detailed list of features for this PSN release:

  • 15 Chapters in Solo Campaign – Assume the role of Hardboiled Chicken, kick a$$, kill penguins and take names on a mission to assassinate the evil penguin leader.
  • 10 Chapters in Co-Op Campaign – Select a pair from the dirty half-dozen Budgie commando characters and set out on a mission to save the general’s daughter.
  • Puzzles: Your birdie-brain must think quickly to use your environment and solve a variety of puzzles to move on to each level.
  • Stereoscopic 3D: Fantastic, non-dizzying Stereoscopic 3D support, running at 60fps/720p enhance the visuals wherever available.
  • Mini-stories: The plot thickens as you unlock cut-scenes and music videos at each level that uncover the truth about the totalitarian regime and Hardboiled’s mysterious past.
  • Weapons: Kill penguins with a cache of guns you’ll find along the way from pistols, shotguns and Uzis to MP5s, M60s and AK-47s. Bring down the regime with grenades and other explosives. Unlock the ultimate weapon – Brain Bugs!

    • Rocketbirds: Hardboiled Chicken launches this October for the PSN. Once a definite date is announced, we will be sure to bring out an update. While you wait though, check out the shiny new screens below that show off this poultry romp in all of it’s squawking glory.

    Burnout Crash! set at $10 for PSN and XBLA release on September 20th

    So… if you can’t wait for the next legitimate Burnout game you can somewhat satisfy your appetite for car carnage with a downloadable title which takes a chunk out of the full game and makes it a bit sized portion for fans. When exactly can we expect this tidbit to be available on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade? On September 20th for $10 and 800 MSP respectively.

    Also we have a new screenshot as you can see above, showing a decent amount of car destruction. Though you can expect there to be a lot more to the title, including Kinect support for the Xbox 360 version of the title. Still… Criterion… please work on a full Burnout title, your fans are waiting.

    Studio Yakuza formed, surprisingly working on Yakuza 5 and Yakuza Black Panther 2

    If you were hoping that the Yakuza series would continue then you have nothing to worry about. Despite what has usually been a lukewarm reception in the West (despite the stunning quality of the titles) the Yakuza series has done absolutely amazing in Japan, so much so that the men behind the Yakuza series are forming their own studio Famitsu reports.

    Though at the moment they are developing Binary Domain, the studio headed by Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi, will be named Studio yakuza and they are goign to be working on two titles. One of the titles is named Yakuza 5 and the other is Yakuza Black Panther 2 for the PlayStation Portable which will be released in the spring of 2012. Now we just need to hope that these titles, as well as Yakuza Of the End will be released overseas as well.

    Total War Shogun 2 : Rise of the Samurai

    Sega have released a wealth of new media for their upcoming expansion to Total War Shogun 2 – Rise of the Samurai. As well as a trailer there are screenshots featuring some of the new units and a gorgeous UK poster.

    Set 400 years before the civil war of the Sengoku period featured in Shogun 2, Rise of the Samurai boasts a brand new campaign set in 12th century Japan. Three great families battle for control of the country, and players will lead one of six playable clans from the Taira, Minamoto and Fujiwara . Amidst the chaos, a new class of warrior emerges that will change everything – the samurai.

    In addition to single player the campaign is also playable in multiplayer versus or co-op modes, and comes with 30 new battle units (including warrior monks and female samurai) and 4 new agents.

    The release date is simply set as September 2011, although pre orders are currently still available on Steam.  Keep an eye out for more news of a release from Capsule Computers!
