Latest Blades of Time trailer details game mechanics plus time-rewind

Earlier today Konami released a new video that details all of the different game mechanics that players will be using when Blades of Time is released next year. There is of course your standard fighting with a sword and gun but also you can see a number of other features as well, namely the time-rewind that players will be using.

Time-rewind is going to be used for puzzle mechanics as well as for combat, as you can see in the trailer below. The time-rewind ability allows players to make clones of Ayumi and allow her to fight alongside herself against stronger enemies such as a boss. While Gaijin Entertainment is still at the helm for Blades of Time, it is not a sequel to X-Blades but more of a completely separate title with the relatively same looking and same named heroine Ayumi.

One Piece Musou gets a screenshot; docks onto PS3s next year

For those wondering just what One Piece Musou is going to look like, you won’t have to wonder anymore. A screenshot for the title has been released and can be seen above. The screenshot itself shows everyone’s favorite rubber captain Monkey D. Luffy about to take down a small cluster of marines.

Also revealed was that the game would be released sometime in 2012 only on the PlayStation 3. The title will likely play similar to past Dynasty Warrior styled games where players will face hundreds and thousands of enemies like the ones shown above. More information will be available next week as Namco Bandai plans on debuting the title at Tokyo Game Show.

Dead Island Map App is a cheat sheet for collectibles

If you are wandering around in the world of Dead Island then you should know that the game has quite a large map to navigate. Of course there are maps online you could look at but how about a bite sized map that sits right on your iPhone. Also how about if that map showed the locations of all different kinds of collectibles in the game, ranging from audio diaries, ID cards and Banoi Herald journals.

The app is going to cost $2.99 which unfortunately seems a bit pricey, but the map is certainly a handy little tool that makes for uninterruptable gameplay. Of course, when the location of the collectibles is posted online it may take away from the value significantly. Either way though you can download the map app here.

Dead Nation takes you on the “Road of Devastation”

Dead Nation may have been released nearly a year ago but it most recently landed on some peoples’ radars. It was one of the games available for free due to the PlayStation Network downtime and the subsequent “Welcome Back” program, and now fans of the game that many obtained for free may be getting some new content to go along with their game.

Housemarque and Sony have said that over 3.8 million people have killed over 11.7 billion zombies, and now the popular title is go down the “Road of Devastation” in the newly announced DLC. The game will include a number of new tools and pieces of equipment that will help players face down new enemies and unique environments. Players will wake up in a lab after being genetically modified to create an ultimate soldier. Outside of the lab players will find “a crossroads leading to three different paths, each with their own unique environments, challenges and enemies waiting for you.” Currently no date nor a price was announced, though expect one in the future.

Resistance 3 DLC announced as the Survival Pack; coming on October 4th

PlayStation 3 owners can rejoice because not only does their exclusive Resistance 3 title hit stores today but Insomniac Games has already begun working on a piece of downloadable content for the game’s multiplayer section. The DLC is named the “Survival Pack” and will be available on October 4th. The package will add the Invasion Mode to Resistance 3 and include a number of player skins as well as a basic XMB theme for only $3.99.

The Invasion game mode will be a team based resource management type match which will force teams to control capture points on a map to earn points. If you don’t feel like spending extra money though, you can will also be getting two new multiplayer maps entirely free. These maps will come alongside a patch that is also being released on October 4th.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution “The Missing Link” DLC announced for October release

Square Enix has had a small puzzle going on involving Deus Ex: Human Revolution and it appears that they have decided to shed a little light on what the puzzle contains. Today Square Enix announced that “The Missing Link” DLC will be released in October and bring with it a number of new environments, characters and some extra narrative to go with the game’s already stellar story.

The Missing Link DLC will take place near the end of the game’s storyline and fill in a three day gap in story where Adam happened to drop off the radar where nobody knew where he was. The content will reveal new information about the conspiracies, though for those who have beaten the game, nothing has been said if they will need to start over to access the DLC or not. Expect more information soon as Square Enix promised updates soon.

Dead Island patch detailed, Steam version to be replaced with standard version

Dead Island has quite a large amount of bugs, but I didn’t mention a number of these in my review simply because Techland has had a day-one patch sitting in it’s holster ready to fire off when the game was released. This patch will fix a large amount of issues which could plague your game, with some being only minor annoyances and others potentially quest halting.

You can find the full list of the game’s fixes below, also if you happened to download the Steam version of Dead Island, you may have noticed something else wrong with your game. The Steam version was actually a pre-release development build which has a number of large glitches and other problems. Obviously they are going to be releasing a normal version to patch player’s problematic games. Techland is expecting to release the patch to North American consumers as soon as possible with other countries receiving it on Friday.

  • Sony hire big gun to head security team

Citing the latest network intrusion as the main reason behind the move, Sony has hired Philip Reitinger, ex director of the US National Cyber Security Center to act as their new chief information security officer. As well as his previous position within the government, Reitinger has also represented Microsoft as well as the US department of Defense.

With the loss of 77 million users data, including personal information by hackers exploiting network flaws, Sony are doing everything they can to ensure their users feel safe and secure while using their various services. While many doubted that the PSN service would ever return to its former glory, CEO Howard Stringer sings a different tune, emphasising that since the ordeal “We have more than 3 million new customers since the network came back online, and sales are exceeding what we had before the cyber-attacks.”

Limited Edition Uncharted 3 Controller Announced

    It’s beige. It’s brown. It’s cartographic fantastic! (I had to, I apologise!)

Sony Japan has just revealed that a limited edition Dualshock 3 controller will be released alongside Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception when the game debuts there on 2 November. So far this is only scheduled for a Japan release, but with Uncharted being such an internationally popular franchise it would be a bit strange to leave out the rest of the world.

Personally I’m a bit surprised at the choice of the design – it looks a lot more like a Lord of the Rings style controller than anything to do with the Uncharted franchise! I can see where they are coming from with the map design, Uncharted does hinge on exploring, and yes, that involves maps. But given the lush environments and generally vibrant style of the game, I would have expected something a bit bolder. If this controller sees a worldwide release, will you be snapping it up?
