F1 2011 Developer Diary 4: Season Updates and Safety Car

Codemasters have released the final developer diary video before the F1 2011 comes out next week, highlighting the season updates and the much anticipated safety car.

All of the updates in Formula One rules have been included, such as KERS, DRS, and the new Pirelli tyres, which according to Steven Hood (Chief Games Designer of Codemasters), “make the game feel completely different”.

The diary entry also shows off the Safety car, giving people another glimpse at what it’s going to be like and briefly expanding on the impact it will have in the game.

“A lot of people have been asking us for it. We’d always said we’d only do it when it was absolutely right, so now it’s available in single player and multiplayer,” said Hood.

F1 2011 will be out next Friday the 23rd of September (20th in North America), and will be available for 360, PS3, and PC with Vita and 3DS still to be announced later.

Don’t forget to keep checking back here next week for a review of the game!

Disgaea 3 Returns to Western shores as Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention on PS Vita

Disgaea 3 Return has already been announced as a launch title for the PlayStation Vita in Japan, but what about a release in North America? Well today NIS America has answered that question, as today at Tokyo Game Show they announced that they will be bringing Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention to the PlayStation Vita in North America.

Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention is set to be released to North American and European Stores in the Spring of 2012. The revamped game is going to contain new characters, stories and other systems which will be revealed in the months to come. One new feature announced however is the Geo Block feature that was implemented in Disgaea 4: A Promise Unforgotten. These blocks can change the color of floor tiles to provide special stat bonuses such as more EXP or more damage.

Disgaea: Netherworld Unbound set to be released to Android devices free of charge

In what is surely to be a popular move for their fans, NIS America has announced that they will be publishing a Disgaea title on the Android marketplace for the price of absolutely nothing. The game will be called Disgaea: Netherworld Unbound and be free to buy and free to play.

Not everything is going to be entirely free however, as NIS America plans to make money off of the title by incorporating items that can be purchased for legitimate money to help buff up their characters. There currently are no details about the items that must be bought separately but expect news shortly as Disgaea: Netherworld Unbound is set to hit the Android marketplace sometime in the Fall.

Clan of Champions to be NIS America’s first Xbox 360 title; release in early 2012

Didn’t I say to expect more news from NIS America? Well either way, at Tokyo Game Show today the company has announced that they will be bringing over the game Gladiator Vs. which is currently being developed by Acquire. When the game is released in North America and Europe the game will be named Clan of Champions. The game will feature 3 person team co-op or head to head battles. The above screenshot was released a few weeks ago by Famitsu after the game’s reveal.

The interesting thing for NIS America here however, is that that this is the first ever title by NIS America to not be exclusively for a Sony system. While Acquire may only be making the game on the PlayStation 3 for Japan, NIS America will be releasing a version for the PlayStation 3 as well as the PC and the Xbox 360. Could this be a sign of things to come for NIS America and the Xbox 360 console? We shall see.

External Batteries Being Developed For Vita

Did you go into a rage after Sony revealed that the average life of the Playstation Vita happens to be between three and five hours? Never fear, gamers, as SCEA Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida has revealed that there will be an external battery for the Vita at the Tokyo Game Show.

In an interview with IGN, Yoshida reveals that the external battery is currently being developed by the electronics giant. Although there was no information on how long it will last or price, Yoshida did have this to say:

“If you’re flying from New York to San Francisco or vice versa, you’ll have no concerns if you have the additional external battery.”

This seems to be a response to the negative backlash from gamers and journalists alike. The battery lifespan on a single charge was equal (or close to) that of the 3DS Nintendo’s current handheld, which has shared its own criticism for its battery life.

I think the problem is that people want handhelds to last as long as smartphones. I don’t really care for the lifespan of the battery, since it sits quite comfortably in its charger. Plus, for those worried about long car trips, remember they are releasing a car charger. Hopefully they have a solution for long plane rides as well.

1000 Tiny Claws Tears Announced For PS MInis

London-based development studio Mediatonic has announced 1000 Tiny Claws, its third PlayStation minis game for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation 3. It will be released on October 4 in the USA and October 5 in the UK and Europe. Expect to fork out £1.99 in the UK, €2.49 in Europe and $3.49 in the USA.

1000 Tiny Claws is a fast-paced arena brawler, putting the player into the shoes of Rana, a plucky sky pirate tasked with saving the lives of her ship’s crew by clearing stages infested with insectoid enemies – an accursed swarm that the crew may have accidentally released.

1000 Tiny Claws sees Rana having to save her captain and crew from the hangman’s noose after a judge rules that they’re responsible for unleashing a swarm of insects that threaten to bring about the apocalypse. To save her crew, as well as the small matter of saving the world, Rana has to clear a series of floating islands by making sure the infernal enemies infesting each stage fall to their deaths. Rana can draw on her sky pirate’s toolbox of combos, running attacks, special moves and dodges to dispatch her many-clawed foes, and she must keep her cool as the action ramps up into wildly frantic territory if she wants to keep her crewmates alive and break the curse of the 1000 Tiny Claws for once and for all.

Mediatonic is behind two critically accliamed Playstation Minis, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess and Who’s That Flying?!, which means this game could be another great downloadable title. Check out the screenshots below.

PIXEL! PS3 Has A European Release Date

PIXEL!, the third entry of the excellent Arkedo Series, will grace the Playstation Store on the 28th of September. The game, however, isn’t being developed by Arkedo alone. This time around, they have co-developed the game with fellow French developer PastaGames, who developed Maestro Jump In Music, a rhythm/platformer hybrid. Staying the same is the publisher, which is Sanuk Games. Expect to pay €1.99 / £1.59.

PIXEL! follows Pix The Cat in a world of white squares and a blue background. Even though there are the usual platformer mechanics, the game has some unique features, the big feature being the use of a magnifying glass to investigate some pixelated blocks. You may already have met Pix the Cat in PIX’N LOVE RUSH, a game released to much critical and public praise on PlayStation Minis, iPhone and iPad.

While PIX’N LOVE RUSH was built around short scoring-oriented sessions, “PIXEL!” is a more traditional platform adventure. And while PIX’N LOVE RUSH was constrained to tiny handheld screens, “PIXEL!” takes full advantage of your expensive HDTV: the blue halo surrounding big fat pixels had never looked so good!

Check out some screenshots below and have your say on the game.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 arriving on North American and European shores Spring of 2012

NIS America released a very interesting game earlier this year which was an RPG that pretty much referenced the entire video game industry including many guest characters from fellow Japanese developers. That game was Hyperdimension Neptunia. Now Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 has been released in Japan and fans were curious about whether or not the game would also be localized by NIS America.

Well today at Tokyo Game Show those questions were put to rest because NIS America has announced that they will be publishing Hyperdimension Neptunia Mk2 in North America and Europe in Spring of 2012. In the sequel gamers will take control of Nepgear, Neptune’s younger sister who is traveling with IF and Compa to rescue Neptune. Expect much more news from NIS America in the next few hours.

Hulk Hogan’s Main Event to receive T-Shirt pre-order bonus!

Wrestling fans have had a pretty good year so far in terms of releases. Earlier this year, we seen WWE All Stars hit the shelves and of course THQ’s WWE ’12 is now just a few months away. One title that also deserves some attention though is Majeco’s celebration of the Hulkster himself, Hulk Hogan’s Main Event. While this Kinect title is about taking out your opponent in the ring, it is also geared more towards the actual showmanship of the sport as the player must learn Hulk’s trademark moves and poses to gain the attention of the crowd.

Those who are planning on picking up Hulk Hogan’s Main Event will also be happy to know that all consumers that pre-order from Gamestop will now receive their very own T-Shirt, bearing the game’s logo. Some might be thinking “yeah, it’s just a shirt”, and yes, you would be right…but, it is a rare tradition for any game released these days to offer a physical pre-order bonus, which makes Hulk Hogan’s Main Event’s offer all the more special.

Hulk Hogan’s Main Event is due out this October exclusively on the Xbox 360 with Kinect, so take you vitamins, say your prayers, and put down a pre-order to show your support of the Hulkster himself.

Spider-Man: Edge of Time to feature new costume

There’s a new Spider-Man in town, and his name is Miles Morales. That’s right, Peter Parker is no more (in one branch of the comic book universe at least!). The change was announced a while back, but the new character is still getting into the swing of things (sorry) with the release of Ultimate Fallout #4. It  makes perfect sense that a new Spidey would have a new costume, and the folks at Marvel are happy to announce that the upcoming Spider-Man: Edge of Time game will also feature the new look.

Due for release across all platforms in October this year, Edge of Time is being developed by Beenox, the same part of Activision behind previous Spider-Man title Shattered Dimensions. Players will be able to take on the mantle of both the Amazing Spider-Man and Spider-Man 2099, and take part in an epic mission to save the world from a chaotic, dystopian future.

So what do you think of the new look? Will Peter Parker in his red and blue always be the real Spider-Man?
