Hasbro president and CEO, Brian Goldner recently spoke at the UBS Best Of Americas 2012 Conference revealing some of the companies’ future plans for the Transformers franchise. Apparently while Transformers: Dark of the Moon did generally well at the box office, it sold less toys than expected – which is exactly what these kinds of films are meant to do. This has encouraged them to take Transformers 4 in an entirely new direction.
So what does this mean? An entirely new cast of robots! After all, the last three films have been pretty much the same robots, so pretty much generating the same toys. This new cast will shake-up the franchise with new faces and new storylines, giving movie viewers something new, kids new toys to buy and also Michael Bay a chance to set up a new trilogy for the next director after he leaves the series. Word is this new script will even include some action “off planet” as well! A temporary logo has also been revealed, which you can see above.
Transformers 4 is expected to hit cinemas on June 27, 2014.
Actually, it’s 300: Rise of an Empire. That’s the new title for the highly anticipated sequel to the hit 2006 film based on the Frank Miller comic book miniseries. The sequel was formally known as 300: The Battle of Artemisia.
300: Rise of an Empire will tell the story of Greek General Themistocles, who lead Athens against Persian Invaders whilst the Batte of Thermopylae took place, the battle depicted in the original film. The film is currently in production and stars Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Lena Headey, Hans Matheson, Rodrigo Santoro, Igal Naor, Callan Mulvey, Jack O’Connell and Andrew Tiernan.
So prepare for glory! 300: Rise of an Empire is expected to charge it’s way to cinemas on August 2, 2013.
This is something I’ve wanted to hear for a very long time!
At Comic-Con this year an unfinished test reel was shown staring the Avenger Ant-Man which drove fans wild. However Marvel have refused to reveal the footage to the public outside of the event.
But things may change! Marvel producer Victoria Alonso recently told Omelete(via Collider) in an interview that “Edgar (Wright) is on board the project but will film The World’s End first. He has written a script and will hopefully work soon with Marvel. But what fans really want to see is this test footage only a select few people on the planet have seen. On that topic, Alonso said the following:
“What we showed at Comic-Con was a video still unfinished and we are working to finalize it. And I think you should see it, but do not know where yet. We always hear what the fans are saying and doing everything to meet what they ask. I do not know if we’ll publish it online , but I have no reason to imagine that is not a good way. If that’s what the fans want….”
Rumor has it that that Ant-Man will start production in 2014.
Godzilla and Ninja Turtles are going to have a showdown at the box office!
Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures have revealed a release date for their approach at the Godzilla franchise: May 16, 2014. Fellow pop culture fans may also recognize this as the release date set for another popular franchise that is getting a new take on things by Paramount Pictures: Ninja Turtles.
With Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures challenging Paramount Pictures in a battle for ticket sales, it can make one wonder if Ninja Turtles will move or stand its ground after the last release date change.
While it seems like smooth sailing so far for Godzilla, it’s been a struggle for Ninja Turtles. Firstly there was controversy over the the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles no longer being teenager or mutants but rather aliens, then the film was postponed by 10 weeks due to writing. Now with Godzilla launching on the same date, things aren’t looking to good for the shelled warriors.
Will Godzilla be king of the box office? Guess we’ll have to wait until May 16, 2014!
