The action RPG from Soldak, Drox Operative, has had it’s beta patched to 0.929 today. This patch brings with it a bunch of fixes and additions. In addition to this patch, the two newest races to the game have been revealed. These are: Shadow and Humans.
As you can probably guess, the human race is very much human in appearance. They look, well, like us. They’re also really good at economics and expansion. The next race, the Shadow, are much better at being spies and defensive. They look much more like old elven men with wrinkly faces than people.
Desperate Housewives: The Complete Eighth and Final Season Studio: Cherry Alley Productions Publisher: ABC Studios Format: DVD Release Date: 3 October, 2012 Price: $49.98 – Available Here
Overview
Desperate Housewives has had a long and successful run, and is it any surprise? Much like the housewives it represents, it prides itself on being able to be many things at once – a comedy, a drama, a romance, a mystery, so on and so forth. The eighth season has the same range mixed with that quirkiness that is beloved by Desperate Housewives fans. The eighth season is a great send off to a highly successful show, with all the humour, drama and suspense of the first seven seasons.
Story
There’s a certain charm to Desperate Housewives, in the characters, as well as the situations they find themselves in. Desperate Housewives manages to toe that line of having them in dark situations but still somehow finding that comedic beat. That isn’t just the skill of the writers, but the cast – especially in the main four actresses. They perform well individually, as well as with each other, and its in the comfort and surety they have in their characters.
The last season was always guaranteed to have a huge amount of drama, and given the fact that at the end of the previous season Carlos clocked a rape-y Gabby’s step father on the back of the head, it’s no surprise that the housewives spend a good deal of stuck in the middle of super drama. No thanks to an extremely vengeful police department who decided to put the girls in their crosshairs.
The season has so many different story lines and arcs that it seamlessly moves through, the most of which has to do with Bree. She goes through such drastic character changes through the last season, not only from beginning to end but in the middle as well. Marcia Cross handles these changes expertly and entirely seamlessly.
Another big character change was in Gabrielle, who becomes the provider for the family by the end of the season. Her and Carlos’ marriage has undergone some serious renovation and by season’s end they turn the tables on their established relationship from the first seven seasons. It’s nice to see them reach a place where they find what works for them and have come to terms with their marriage and made it work.
Lynette and Tom struggle with their separation, but being Lynette and Tom, they do manage to find their way back to each other. And considering the fact that it is Lynette and Tom, it makes you cheer when they do.
Lastly, Susan. Out of the main four she suffers the most unfortunate storyline. I won’t go into it, but it really makes you feel for her, and Desperate Housewives pulls off something you never thought they’d do. And it manages to not get annoying, but instead the angst and naturally depressing nature of the storyline I tempered well with the innate humour of the show.
There is some mirroring of the first season, especially in the finale of the series. It’s nice to have that nostalgia, especially for people who have been following the show since it’s inception. In fact, it might even lead to you brushing off the first season and looking back on how far they’ve come.
Visuals/Audio
Desperate Housewives is, as always, looking great with impeccable styling. The neighbourhood is a character of it’s own right, as it always has been, and the way that it’s shot helps keep it that way. The set dressing is wonderfully done, and the cinematography is great.
The incidental music and soundtrack works really well, as it always has, and it never overdoes the music or underdoes it. It does well at emphasizing moments, as well as improving the humorous moments.
Extras
The special features included in the DVD have a few of the deleted scenes, bloopers, and featurettes about wrapping up the end of the series. It’s nice to see the end of series through the eyes of the cast and crew, and it’s really sweet. Especially since, like their characters, the actors have evolved over the course of the show.
Overall
Desperate Housewives is an ultimately entertaining and has a cast of characters that we have all come to know and love. Even though it has had eight seasons, they’ve still managed to keep it interesting and different – with some continuing character development that will draw you right on in.
It’s easy to fly right through the season, and you might find yourself having a bit of a marathon with the show.
So the Wii U is coming to some countries in a little over 2 weeks and some a little on 3. The Wii U is interesting because it is the first dedicated game console to require a tablet controller as a part of its man to machine interface. What’s even more interesting is that from the tablet controller, players are able to access certain features of the console without the need for a TV.
One of these are the Wii U’s web browser. Now this browser is pretty odd in some regards, but some of these seem like licensing issues rather than technical ones. For instance, the Wii U will be HTML 5 compatible, but not flash compatible. It also does not support any plug-ins.

Apprope have just released it’s popular SLENDR game that appeared on the PC on the popular Android mobile platform. The game is available on the Google Play store for what appears to be free. This is great for gamers as free games are always fun.
For those of you that don’t know about SLENDRs history, it is essentially a game based on the Slenderman internet meme. What started as a creepy-pasta based on some scary images has now become this viral phenomenon. Don’t let him touch you.
For more information on the meme visit the Know Your Memesite on the topic. Also be sure to visit the Google Play store site for more information on the game.

343 Industries has finally revealed their plans for the competitive skill rank system that Halo 4 will include. They first went and confirmed that Halo 4 will not be launching with a skill based ranking system. As for actual specifications, they revealed that the new ranking system will launch in early 2013 via title update and you will be able to view the competitive skill rank on Halo Waypoint. The ranks will be available on all forms of Halo Waypoint no matter what device you are using to access it.
At Halo 4’s launch, the competitive skill system will measure your performance against other players in Halo 4 War Games and use this information to match you up against opponents of comparable skill ranks. When the CSR system is fully implemented post-launch, Waypoint will assign each player a visible and detailed Skill Rank, viewable in the player profile section of Halo Waypoint.
All playlists will include the competitive skill rank system so you will be able to play your favorite game type and get assigned a CSR from anywhere in the range of 1-50. Also, it has been said that they currently don’t know if they will keep your players statistics or if they will reset everyone’s statistics and start fresh.
Greetings fellow summoners! Zed has been revealed quite quickly after popping up in our radar in his sneak peek. How very ninja of him! Let’s take a look at Zed’s unique assassin abilities, and delve into the lore behind the master ninja.
Abilities
Contempt for the Weak (Passive): Whenever Zed attacks an enemy below 50% Health, he deals an additional 8% of their maximum Health as magic damage. This effect has a short cooldown.
Razor Shuriken: Zed and his shadow both throw their shurikens, dealing physical damage to any target they pass through. Each Shuriken deals less damage to targets beyond the first.
Living Shadow: Zed’s shadow dashes forward, remaining in place for a short duration. Zed’s shadow will duplicate his spells. Activating Living Shadow again while his shadow is active will cause Zed to switch positions with his shadow. If both Zed and his shadow strike the same target with Razor Shurikens or Shadow Slash, Zed regains some energy and the target suffers an additional effect: Razor Shurikens deal additional bonus damage and the slow from Shadow Slash is dramatically increased.
Shadow Slash: Zed and his shadow both create a burst of shadow, dealing physical damage to nearby enemies. Zed’s Shadow Slash slightly reduces the cooldown of Living Shadow by for each unit struck. The shadow’s Shadow Slash briefly slows enemies.
Death Mark: Zed sinks into the shadows and dashes to his target, dealing physical damage. He also spawns a Living Shadow beyond the target, which duplicates his spells and marks the target. After 3 seconds, the mark will detonate, dealing physical damage based on the damage dealt to the target by Zed and his shadow while the mark was active. Zed can reactivate this ability to switch positions with this shadow.
Lore
Orphaned at a young age, Zed was taken in and trained by a master ninja. As time past Zed grew stronger and was unequaled by all students except for one – the master’s son Shen. In every duel they battled, no winner was declared. Enraged by his inability to defeat Shen in combat, Zed went to the temple to seek greater power. He happened upon a strange box that emanated a foreboding power. Knowing that he should not dare touch the object, Zed went against moral teachings and peered into the box. Shadows appeared in front of him and presented Zed with knowledge of dark arts kept secret for 200 years.
On their next meeting, Zed defeated Shen with his newly acquired powers. Zed thought his performance warranted praise and excitement from his peers and master, but the master knew the evil that followed Zed’s new-found powers. Shen’s father then banished Zed for his use of the dark magic. Still a young boy, he wandered along with the shadows and worked to perfect his craft. Zed grew powerful in the darkness and brought others into his circle of shadows. Once he saw that his circle grew into an army, he knew that he must have control of the box once more to perfect his teachings. Upon arriving to his old village, Zed met his old master at the gates waiting for him. The old man professed his wrongdoing in banishing Zed and letting the dark shadows lead him away from a world of balance. He then directed Zed to take his army into the temple and destroy the evil box to restore the balance to his life. Zed follow his former master’s steps and walked in to sacred temple.
After a few moments, a resounding scream of pain was heard. Those outside figured this to be Zed’s voice but noticed as he walked out that he wasn’t physically hurt. However, the crowd quickly gathered that the item Zed was holding was their dear master’s head. The evil ninja threw the head of his former master down the steps of the temple and ordered his followers to kill anyone who stood against him. Zed quickly overcame the defending ninjas but was unable to take out his nemesis Shen. In a courageous effort, Shen led a remaining few to safety away from the now corrupted temple.
Zed now leads the temple as the Order of Shadow’s master. His order follows a simple edict: “perfect one’s technique, and kill all ninjas who refuse to embrace the shadows.”
