Terence Stamp on George Lucas: ‘He was more interested in effects’

terence-stamp-valorum-01

In the upcoming issue of Empire Magazine, Terence Stamp reflects upon the experience of working with George Lucas in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace…and it didn’t intellectually stimulate him in the slightest.

Terence apparently did not strike a friendship of any sort with Lucas, saying, “We didn’t get on at all.” He joins the club of fans who resent Lucas for the very same prequel trilogy Stamp appeared in. He goes on, “I didn’t rate him that much as a director really. I didn’t feel he was a director of actors, he was more interested in stuff and effects. He didn’t interest me and I wouldn’t think I interested him”. I think that first part of the statement is a common belief amongst many.

Stamp had his reservations about doing the film at all, but was excited at the prospect of working with actor such as Natalie Portman. He flew across the world, to here in Australia for filming, only to be sorely disappointed. When he arrived on set for a scene and asked George where she was, George pointed to a piece of paper on the wall and said “That’s Natalie.” Stamp summed up the experience, “It was just boring”.

The long rumoured film adaptation of the extremely popular Warcraft video game series has finally announced a director for the project. Duncan Jones, whose previous works include Moon (2009) and Source Code (2011), is set to undertake the role. Director Sam Raimi, of Spiderman and Evil Dead fame, was previously annouced as director though he departure the project in 2012.

Now don’t hold your breath everyone, as well all know films based off video games don’t exactly translate well, see past fails: the awful Max Payne film, Tekken and the notorious 1993 live action Super Mario Bros. film (face palm).

Although Jones has taken to Twitter to announce that he’s keen for the challenge,

Warcraft is said to have a $100 million+ production with the guys behind Man of Steel and The Dark Knight Rises Legendary Pictures producing the film. Blizzard and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are reportedly working on the film as well.

The strategy-turned-MMO game series is beloved by millions of fans around the world, now let’s hope they don’t stuff this up.

Warcraft the movie is set for a possible 2015 release, with shooting to begin by the end of this year.

Politicians Calling Video Games More Dangerous than Guns is Disrespectful to Victims of Violence

In the wake of the many shootings that have been publicly covered by the media in the United States, many politicians are moving for stricter control over violent video games. This includes Senator Leland Yee, who has the opinion that gamers don’t have the proper perspective on the issue.

“Gamers have got to just quiet down,” Yee, D-San Francisco, said in an interview last Tuesday. “Gamers have no credibility in this argument. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry’s lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest.”

Considering the main people to know the most about video games, are gamers, this seems like a very inaccurate statement. Yes, gamers can be very defensive about games, sometimes to a fault. However, to blame the deaths that have happened lately on video games, is quite frankly, disgusting to this American writer.

In addition to this, Republican Senator Lamar Alexander has stated that right now “video games are a bigger problem than […] guns”. You can view the entire segment in the video right here.

I live in a city in the United States where 200 gun related deaths happened in the year of 2012. That is more than the American casualties in the Iraq war in 2012. Gun related deaths. Not video game related deaths. People with guns shot them. To dance around the real issue of gun control by scapegoating to video games is an insult to the victims of these shootings.

Real people are dying at the hands of real guns. This is beyond video games. This is an issue that should have opened up much more attention to gun control and to the assistance of the mentally ill and address gang violence more seriously.

How many more people have to die for politicians to pay attention to the real problems? We as a country are wasting our time and money on this distraction of violent video games when we could have been on track to spend resources on things that could actually stop people from being killed. Politicians are holding the interests of the NRA instead of the people who have been murdered.

Gang violence is real. Mental illness is real. Guns are real. Video games are not real. Fix the real issues.

SimCity Digital Deluxe Video Displays European Landmarks

The bonuses for getting the Digital Deluxe version of the new SimCity game have been announced and Maxis and EA couldn’t think of any better way of showing them off than a brand new video.  This time the bonuses stem from 3 major landmarks, literally.

Players with the Digital Deluxe will gain the France’s Eiffel Tower, England’s Big Ben Clock Tower, and Germany’s Brandenburg Gate which don’t seem all too important in and of themselves, until you see them impact the buildings that comes up around them.  They will even impact transportation as like buildings the landmarks will also change some of the vehicles.  Such as the French Police Cars, English Double-Decker Buses, and German Trains.

Players can check out the video embedded below to see the landmarks influences in action and players can get the SimCity Digital Deluxe Edition exclusively from Origin  for $79.99  on March 5th for North America and March 7th for Europe and Australia.

Luna: Shattered Hearts Gameplay Videos

The dedication to indie RPG Luna: Shattered Hearts is easy enough to see after learning how long it’s been in development.  For the last 6 years a sole developer has been slowing working on the title in hopes of it finally being able to finish it for release.  Daniel Gill of Gillis Games is still working away at it, but has something to show for it so far with a set of HD gameplay videos, which are embedded below.

Telling the story with two main characters with dark pasts, Lithien and Dez.  Luna: Shattered Hearts is an epic fantasy journey that will change both of them as well as the world they inhabit.  With a story to pull players in, large levels to explore, hand-drawn backgrounds, dynamic lighting, and even cutscenes it’s easy to see why it’s been such a long time and still going.

Daniel Gill isn’t looking to give up on the game any time soon and is still trying to fund it if he can, but even if it doesn’t work out he’ll still keep at it, albeit just over a longer time.  Players that are interested can back through Kickstarter HERE.  Luna: Shattered Hearts Episode 1 will hopefully be ready to release in 2013.

Injustice: Gods Among Us’ latest trailer hints at the game’s story

injustice-batman-arrested

Today Warner Brothers released a new trailer for Injustice: Gods Among Us and unlike past videos which have revealed new characters or simply shown off the combat system, this one provides a glimpse at what is going to be happening with Injustice: Gods Among Us’ storyline.

You can check out the trailer below and come up with your own conclusions, but from the looks of things, various members of the Justice League have began taking the law into their own hands and begin governing it in a militaristic way while other members are trying to put a stop to things. Currently Injustice: Gods Among Us is set to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii U in April and we will certainly know more by then.
