Diablo III for PS3/PS4 can be played offline in co-op

Diablo-3-Banner-Transparent-01

Always on DRM is becoming a common practice for most PC games and consumers widely agree that when Diablo III required a constant online connection to be played, things were getting pretty ridiculous at this point. However with the game making the trip to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, will that feature remain active?

Doesn’t look like it. In an interview with GameTrailers, Sony’s John Hight stated that “You can have four people on the same screen. No split-screen, we just zoom the camera out. Or, you know, if you’re offline…” This means that gamers will at least be able to play local multiplayer on Diablo III without connecting to the internet and will likely even be able to play the single player without being online, because it’s an amazing world we live in.

hawkgirl-injustice

Today it was revealed that two more DC characters will be appearing as playable fighters in Injustice: Gods Among Us and this time around we have one hero and one villain. To go along with this announcement, Warner Bros. and NetherRealm Studios have released the below gameplay footage and screenshots showing both characters in action. Injustice: Gods Among Us is currently set to be released on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 in April with a Wii U version coming soon after.

Fire Emblem Awakening DLC Trailer

Today, Nintendo posted a brand new trailer for Fire Emblem Awakening, the latest in the popular strategy RPG series on the 3DS. While the game has already been released in Japan and North America to rave reviews, this additional trailer outlines something brand new to the fold of Nintendo gaming: Paid DLC content.

This latest trailer outlines the specific packs and content that will be released as DLC content. Each of the packs contains numerous additional missions, items, and most notably, additional playable characters. Much to the delight of older Fire Emblem fans like myself, the trailer revealled that these DLC characters are in fact many of the significant characters and support units from past Fire Emblem titles. I for one was thrilled to see the names of Lyn from Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword, Emphraim and Eirika from Sacred Stones and Ike and Soren from Path of Radience returning to the limelight. And that’s just to name a few.

Each individual DLC pack has been priced at $6 each for a collection of multiple characters and items amongst 3 additional missions per pack. The entirity of the content appears to be divided down into 5 individual packs. These packs have been labelled as:

  • Champions of Yore, containing Marth, Roy and Miciah
  • Golden Pack, containing much needed additional funding, experience bonues and the coveted Silver card
  • Lost Bloodlines, containing Alf, Lief and Seliph as well as the paragon skill and dread scroll item
  • The Smash Pack, containing Elincia, Eirika and Lyn in addition to the Wedding Bouquet item and Iote’s Shield
  • The Rogues Pack, containing Ephraim, Ike and Cecilia, as well as the limit break skill.

Dishonored’s next DLC “The Other Side of the Coin” leaked by Trophies

dishonored-creepy-screens- (1)

It looks like some trophies have leaked information for Dishonored before Bethesda could announce it themselves. Today trophies for an unannounced piece of Dishonored DLC called “The Other Side of the Coin” were placed on the PS3Trophies website. There are ten trophies overall and this would be the first piece of DLC that would probably expand the game’s storyline rather than simply provide trials.

When we spoke with Bethesda concerning this DLC they would not provide comment on this reveal at the moment, though now that the cat has been let out of the bag we probably should expect an official announcement sometime within the next few weeks.

As it was revealed to Destructoid, the game will star Patricia Wagon as the main character once again and the title is set to be released sometime in the first or second quarter of this year.

The rest of the world can buy the book on March 22nd however you can download the e-version right now. Titled ‘The Art of Failure: An Essay on the Pain of Playing Video Games,’ the book focuses on why we continue to play difficult video games, and tries to put its finger on that drive to succeed most of us gamers thrive on. This supposed paradox, expressed through the constant subjugation to humiliating failure to achieve the pleasure of success, gets a thorough dissection. Juul’s core thesis is that this experience parallels tragic literature than light and fluffy entertainment.

Jesper Juul previous book,  ‘Half-Real: Video Games Between Real Rules and Fictional Worlds’, was named as one of 50 Books For Everyone in the Game Industry by Bullfrog Productions Ernest W. Adams. His renown in the gaming world as being one of the leading academics in the field, being one of the few that cuts through the academic huffing and puffing to articulate real, accessible insight.

Telltale working on a spin-off of The Walking Dead before Season 2?

the-walking-dead-episode-3- (1)

Ever since the first season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead game wrapped up back in November of last year, people have been keeping an eye out for when the next season of this masterfully crafted experience will debut. However it seems that there may be a little something different on the way before Season 2 begins.

Speaking with IGN, The Walking Dead writer Gary Whitta teased that there may be a spin-off focusing on a new character or something else before Season 2. He stated “Knowing that [Season 2] is a way off, and knowing that people are hungry for more Walking Dead…there may very well be more Walking Dead from Telltale before season two. We may have a little something extra for you between season one and two.”

Whether this could be a mini-story focusing on someone like Molly or perhaps Omid and Christa is unknown at the moment, but this is certainly great news for those who can’t wait to see what Telltale has in store for their Walking Dead game series.

Shining Ark previewed in eleven minute gameplay video

shining-ark-02

With Sega’s Shining Ark set to be released this week in Japan, 4Gamer has placed an eleven minute video featuring all types of gameplay footage from the PSP exclusive. In the video we see not only examples of the games combat system but also a glimpse at all of the different characters that players will have access to throughout the game, such as the male lead Fried and the one-winged angel girl named Panis.

Besides the combat system, the video also contains footage of the non-action oriented activities that gamers can take part in, such as fishing or completing basic quests. Currently Shining Ark is set to be released on February 28th in Japan and will likely not be released in the West given it’s PSP status and Sega’s unwillingness to localize most Japanese games, so feel free to import the title if you don’t mind the Japanese text.
