REEL Anime Cinema Returning in 2013

reel-anime-2013-announcement

Madman Entertainment will be bringing back their theatre screenings across Australia and New Zealand in late 2013, with the latest Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo leading the charge. Madman previously announced the movie during Supernova Pop Culture Expo in Melbourne.

Four of some of the latest animated films from Japan will be featured during the cinema event, with the other three titles to be confirmed during the next three upcoming Australian Supernova Pop Culture Expos on April 19-21, June 21-23 and June 28-30.

This year marks the first time REEL Anime will feature as an annual event, rather than a bi-annual one. Last year’s screenings featured Studio Ghibli’s From Up On Poppy Hill, Mamoru Hosada’s Wolf Children, Makoto Shinkai’s Children Who Chase Lost Voices and Berserk Movie 1: The Egg of the King.

Movie times and locations are yet to be announced. Visit the official site for more upcoming info.

Nintendo Announces 3DS Themed Nintendo Direct

Nintendo-Direct-Logo

With the recent releases of Fire Emblem Awakening, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, and Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, you would think the 3DS would see a bit of downtime. That is not the case today as Nintendo have announced a brand new Nintendo Direct, which will showcase the coming line-up of 3DS titles.

We will certainly see Animal Crossing: New Leaf and maybe even the new Mario & Luigi title, but I have a feeling news will start to drop for the upcoming Pokemon X/Y and some new games altogether. You can check out where to view at the links below.

SEGA Reveals Gargan Concept Art for Godsrule: War of Mortals

Godsrule-Gargan-Concept-01

SEGA has revealed new character concept art for their upcoming iPad and browser game Godsrule: War of Mortals. The art unveiled the Gargan character, a giant boulder throwing ice monster. Egill Arnasson, the director of game design, also commented on the development of the character:

“The Gargan was actually supposed to be a fire giant and be on the Keepers of the Ancient’s team. Back then, it was called “Scorcher”. When we decided on faction colors and had fleshed out the game’s backstory a bit more, the Gargan switched sides. We couldn’t keep the unit red, so we changed it into an ice giant and adjusted its special ability accordingly.

The unit’s name comes from the word “Gargantuan” and back when it was a fire giant, the references we used was the chained giant from 300 and the fire giant form Age of Mythology.”

Godsrule:War of Mortals launches later this month. For more information, and a chance to play the beta version, check out the official site.

While visiting the Ghibli Museum, director and son of Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki has said he is working daily on a new project, but cannot elaborate further. It will be his third project with the studio, following Tales from Earthsea and From Up on Poppy Hill, and he hopes to have it completed sometime next year.

From Up on Poppy Hill was screened and praised throughout the world, and is being released by GKids in North America on BD/DVD sometime this year. Studio Ghibli is planning to release Kaguya-hime no Monogatari and Kaze Tachinu this year from two of its leading directors, Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata.

Manga artist Hiro Mashima has revealed via Twitter that his crossover manga that was published in 2011 will be animated. The anime itself will be included as a DVD in the limited edition of Fairy Tail’s 39th volume on August 16.

The story features the main characters from both Fairy Tail and Rave (Natsu and Haru) as missing, with the female heroines (Lucy and Elie) setting out to find them. The anime project is being personally supervised by Mashima himself, with new art and scenes being created outside the manga publication.

Fairy Tail finished airing on March 30 this year, but is “To Be Continued”, with Mashima promising it isn’t over yet. A rerun of the series is being planned for April ahead of its continuation.

The first trailer of Worlds of Magic, the game being developed by Wasteland interactive and Lucid dreamers has just been released and can be found below. Although the game is already in an early stage of development, it will be available, according to estimations, in January 2014. We recently posted an article detailing Worlds of Magic’s success in progressing towards its on its Kickstarter target which can be found here.

From the trailer we can see that Primary game play takes place on the world map, this involves moving your armies to defend your positions or attack enemies. You gain control of additional cities by conquering them or founding new ones yourself. Management of  cities under your control is also needed by building new buildings and dedicating your work force to one task or anotheras well as improving your armies. When two enemy armies collide gameplay is moved to the tactical battle map where turn based combat is played out. Those that haven’t seen Splinter Cell: Blacklist’s walkthrough videos HERE and HERE or have been avoiding them to not get too spoiled about the locations they will be playing in, may want to check out the latest trailer for Ubisoft’s latest in the series. Far less spoilerish, but still packed with Sam Fisher style action the new trailer highlights his abilities and Sam’s 3 S’s of Stealth; Stalk, Strike, and Silence.

The trailer also includes a few glimpses of some of Sam’s newest additions to his inventory, like his mini-copter. While not the highlight of the video, those that did miss the walkthroughs should certainly find the new gadgets intriguing. Though in terms of content the trailer itself is lacking in all but the story.

Players can view the trailer embedded below to see Sam stalk, strike, and silence his foes to gear up for the release of Splinter Cell: Blacklist in August 20th in North America, August 22nd in Australia, and August 23rd in Europe.
