The company is thrilled to have partnered with Compulsion Games on Contrast, with Cédric Lagarrigue, CEO of Focus Home Interactive stating that:

CONTRAST is a very special project with its atmosphere, artistic direction and innovative gameplay and we knew that from the moment we saw the game… We are delighted to be partnering with Compulsion Games and believe this project to be one of the biggest indie surprises of the year.

Contrast is set in a 1920s film-noir Paris backdrop where you play as Dawn, the imaginary friend of a little girl named Didi. Like the children who create them every imaginary friend is special and unique and Dawn is no exception. Dawn has the mysterious ability to transcend dimensions and quite literally enter the shadows. This allows for a unique gameplay experience as players are tasked with manipulating light sources and objects in the world to create different placement, depth, height and weight to allow Dawn to solve the puzzles and traverse the shadows.

Focus Home Interactive tells us that the game will have a strong atmosphere built with a breathtaking visual style and accompanied by a cast of professional voice actors and a cabaret soundtrack that will pull players into Didi’s world, where with Dawn’s help she will unravel a web of secrets through the eyes of a child.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D has made it’s debut on the 3DS today, and brings less waggle and more gameplay to those that love the big ape. Features such as “New Mode” and a new control scheme have also appeared, making this seem to be the definitive way to play the game.

dkc-returns-02

Here are some more details:

To enhance Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for portable play, a ‘New Mode’ has been added to the game. In New Mode, players have access to new items and gameplay features, including Donkey and Diddy Kong having three hearts each (instead of two in ‘Original Mode’), making things a little easier for those new to the franchise. The helpful items in New Mode include portable “DK Barrels”, which players can use at any time to have access to Diddy Kong; “Green Balloons”, used to protect Donkey and Diddy Kong from falling off a cliff or ledge; and “Crash Guards”, which make players temporarily invincible in rocket barrel or mine cart areas. Fans can also play in ‘Original Mode’ to experience the game as it was originally designed.
Also exclusive to Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D are eight challenging new levels located within the all-new ninth world, Cloud, which are unlocked after players complete the main game. Plus, for those looking to conquer Donkey Kong Island with a friend, two players that both own a copy of the game can also connect via local wireless to team up as Donkey and Diddy Kong for some barrel-blasting multiplayer action.

May 25th marks the release date, so if you want to add a guaranteed gem in quality, pick up Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D today (or tomorrow in other regions. You know, go bananas and such. Check out a few extra screens down below.
