Magrunner: Dark Pulse Early Access Now Available on Steam

magrunner-26

Magrunner: Dark Pulse seems to be shaping up pretty nicely thanks to all the hard work from the devs over at Frogwares, but players don’t have to take our word for it as its publisher Focus Home Interactive has announced that those the pre-purchase the game through Steam can download the Early Access now.

Those that want to harness the powers of magnetism and face off against the cosmic horrors need only check out the Magrunner: Dark Pulse Steam page where players, if they have already pre-purchased or do so now, can download the Early Access which consists of the game’s first 12 rooms. This early access will vanish into the depths of insanity and turn into the full game next week when it releases for PC on June 20th, 2013. Console players don’t have to sweat too much as the XBLA and PSN versions of Magrunner: Dark Pulse will be releasing this September.

Video Demonstration of ‘The PlayRoom’ on the PS4

PS4-Playroom-01

Sony introduces… ‘The PlayRoom’. A new video has emerged from E3 2013 showing off some of the capabilities of the PS4’s Dualshock 4 controller and PlayStation 4 Camera when used in conjunction.

The demonstration trailer can be viewed embedded at the bottom of this article. In it, a couple are seen interacting with the space around them via the use of motion and touch control, as well as camera and smartphone integration. This particular example of augmented reality on the console is quite “kiddish”, but it is officially the first look we have received at some of these functionalities (like the touchpad and light on the top of the gamepad) in-action.

At their booth Konami has also got the upcoming Pro Evolution Soccer 2014, which is the first time the new Fox Engine game will be exhibited, though attendees shouldn’t expect to be able to walk up and check it out as it will be by appointment only.

Being set within the same universe as Command and Conquer Generals it will run on the popular Frostbite engine and is said to redefine the RTS genre in ways never before seen. New GTA V Screens from E3

GTA-V-Collage-01

Rockstar Games have unleashed 9 new screens for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto V, during E3 2013. You can check them out in the gallery below.

They show each of the three main player protagonists, Michael, Franklin and Trevor, partaking in mostly dubious activities bar a few leisurely shots. The one that interests us the most is the underwater scuba screenshot; we haven’t seen too much ‘under the sea’ as of yet.

Also of note; we will receive Australia/New Zealand specific details on the exclusive PlayStation 3 bundle with Grand Theft Auto V and a custom Grand Theft Auto V-branded Pulse Elite Headset, both available at launch, soon.

Watch_Dogs E3 2013 Demo Walkthrough

Watch-Dogs-E3-Walkthrough-01

Ubisoft have uploaded their Watch_Dogs E3 2013 demo walkthrough online, and it can be viewed embedded at the bottom of this article.

The 7 minute-plus video was shown during the Ubisoft Press Conference and introduces many new facets of the game. These include: stealth amongst car patrols, a look at a more finalised U.I/HUD, working with a partner character (in this case, one named T-Bone) and the use of the companion app and how it enables you to effectively hold the city of Chicago in the palm of your hand. It seems you will be able to “Request Help” in-game, initiating a search for a mobile player who can then aid you in your escape or mission.

As portrayed in the ‘Exposed’ trailer, Aiden Pearce is a very powerful man.

Full 12-Minute ‘The Dark Sorcerer’ PS4 Tech Demo

dark-sorcerer-06

We’ve been conditioned to expect emotional drama from David Cage’s Quantic Dream studio. Even in their previous tech demos The Casting and Kara, the focus was on sadness and emoting that via the given hardware. Now, with The Dark Sorcerer, things are radically different. Behold…Quantic Dream does comedy!

The full 12-minute demonstration – which was teased just the other day – can be viewed embedded at the bottom of this article. It was released via a PlayStation Blog entry penned by none other than David Cage himself. In it, he explains the entire process of making the “short film” as he considers it. On the topic of “why comedy?”, he identifies fear and sadness as being easy emotions to convey and elicit. He wanted to try something harder and more foreign to the team;

The problem with comedy is that you need a good story, pacing, and talented actors in order to get even a smile from your audience. The other challenge is cultural: although we can frighten or move a Japanese person, an American or a German with more or less the same things, laughter is eminently cultural. People in different countries don’t laugh at the same things. What is hilarious in one country may be considered to be sinister or vulgar in another.

dark-sorcerer-02

Astonishingly, Cage claims that the visual quality represented therein is no where near the full potential of their engine or the PlayStation 4;

The PS4 engine used for Dark Sorcerer is only in its first iteration, and most of the features scheduled for the final version of the engine haven’t yet been implemented. This demo is only a first test that is well below the visual quality we hope to achieve in our next game. The next game will not be based on this demo, obviously (I know, we’re a bit weird), but on an idea that is completely different from what we’ve done to date. It’s incredibly exciting, and I wish I could tell you more… but I can’t.

If you are into the technical details, or the process of its creation in general, take some time to read his blog entry. But remember to watch the “short film” below first for context’s sake. We’ve also included a small gallery of screens courtesy of the blog below.
