Overkill Software and Starbreeze Studios may best be known for their work with Payday 2 but it looks like they are going to expand their scope a bit into the horror genre as the company has revealed that they are working on a Walking Dead game.
Robert Kirkman, the creator of The Walking Dead, revealed that the title will be a new take on the zombie survival genre by offering a co-op gaming experience that Walking Dead fans will enjoy. The announcement did not give the official name of the title nor did it include what platforms it would be released for sometime in 2016.
While it was disheartening for fans of the Battlefield series to learn that Battlefield: Hardline had been delayed until 2015, there is still some good news for you and that news happens to be the fact that EA is really trying with the single player mode this time around.
Today during their Gamescom presentation EA showed off 12 minutes of single player gameplay footage from Battlefield: Hardline which showed off the game’s protagonist Nick Mendoza taking down enemies using a variety of methods, including non-lethal methods that simply involve arresting someone or using a taser compared to simply shooting everyone in sight.
Do you remember a game called Until Dawn? Well we wouldn’t fault you if you don’t because it has been almost two years since the PlayStation Move title was announced for the PlayStation 3 and nothing has ever been said about the game since then.
That is until today when Sony announced that the game is now a PlayStation 4 title that has been “completely rebuilt” to feature a darker storyline following eight friends who become trapped on a remote mountain getaway gone wrong, things quickly turn sinister and they start to suspect they aren’t alone. The re-announcement trailer and some brand new screenshots can be found below.
At Gamescom Ninja Theory, the developers behind games like DmC Devil May Cry, Enslaved, and Heavenly Sword, announced that they will be self publishing a title called Hellblade for the PlayStation 4. They are calling the title an “independent AAA game” where the company wants to make a “smaller, more focused game experience that is uncompromising in its combat, art and story, and deliver this digitally at a lower price.”
The world of the game is going to be based on Celtic mythology while the trailer, found below, focuses on Senua, the game’s protagonist, as she leaves on a personal journey through the underworld. Currently no release window was given for the game.
During their Gamescom press conference Sony debuted the first official gameplay trailer for Bloodborne which can be found below. Additionally, SCE Japan Studios’ Masaaki Yamagiwa discussed that there are three new themes in Bloodborne which are “fear and exploring the unknown, intense life-and-death battles, and new and unique online experiences.”

Like with Demon’s Souls, there’s a lot of emphasis on achievement and reward, that sense of accomplishment from overcoming seemingly impossible challenges. With Bloodborne, the goal is to take that to the next level, which requires focusing on more than just a high difficulty level. To really build up that sense of achievement, not only are there new elements of fear, but we are adding new layers of edge-of-your-seat tension, where your palms sweat as you grip the controller.
At E3 we introduced Bloodborne’s evolved combat style, which requires more pro-active and offensive tactics. The weapons, like the transforming saw cleaver and blunderbuss shotgun, lend themselves to this different combat style, as does the quicker movement and dodging. There’s no more hiding behind a big shield waiting for a chance to strike. Enemies in Bloodborne are quicker and more aggressive as well, and at times you’ll be facing more enemies at once than in the past. There are situations where if you sit back and wait for an opening, you’ll get overwhelmed. At times, you have to be on the offensive. But this is not a hack-and-slash game. Rest assured, Bloodborne is still an action RPG at its core, and combat is still very much about strategy and tactics.
The new, more offensive combat actually goes much deeper, by way of our brand new Regain System, which rewards players for taking more risks and being more decisive and strategic. The Regain System allows players to recover health lost after taking damage by striking back at enemies within a short time period with a bladed weapon. Basically, The Regain system allows players a way to channel that negative energy they feel from taking a hit, and direct it back at the enemy to get revenge and steal back the health they lost.
The amount of health you can recover will be shown in yellow in the HP gauge, and it will get shorter over time if you hesitate to strike. You will still have to be smart and strategic with your strikes, as attacking indiscriminately could lead to taking more damage at the hands of the enemy. Now, the strategy and skill come into play in your offensive and counter-attack tactics, rather than waiting and timing defensive tactics just right.
With Bloodborne we are also seeing an evolution in the weapon design. Set in a more modern 19th Century style gothic setting, you’ll have firearms like the blunderbuss shotgun at your disposal to drive back multiple enemies at a distance, and to do massive damage at close range. But the core of the combat will be the transforming blade weapons that decorate the screen with copious amounts of blood.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Dungeons and Dragons pen and paper roleplaying game, Audible and Wizard of the Coast have gathered together 12 noted celebrities to compile an audio book of The Legend of Drizzt: The Collected Stories, an anthology of D&D stories.
Among these twelve are included Dan Harmon (Creator of Community), Felicia Day (Actor in Buffy the Vampire Slayer and The Guild), ‘Weird’ Al Yankovic (Satirical song writer), and Wil Wheaton (Star Trek).
The universe of Dungeons and Dragons is a vibrant fantasy world originally designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson back in 1974. Various changes have occurred throughout its numerous editions but generally it features worlds inhabited by a variety of races with magic being a prominent feature throughout.

Good news for all the fans of the XCOM series; a new strategy boardgame developed by Fantasy Flight Games is set to be released later this year and will be based on the recent Firaxis Games reboot. The game will be named XCOM: The Boardgame and will allow for up to four players to take on the roles of four XCOM leaders. Each leader will be the head of their own department with varying responsibilities and capabilities as they struggle to defend the Earth against an alien invasion.
The roles include a ‘Commander’ who assigns funding and deals with interceptor placement, a ‘Chief Scientist’ who handles research, and a ‘Squad Leader’ who handles squad deployments on a tactical level. The final role, the ‘Central Officer’ deals with maintaining the satellite network and is also the one player who can interact with another unique feature to the game: a digital companion app.
The app itself plays the part of the invading aliens in the game and chooses randomly from five different invasion plans to coordinate the arrival of new UFOs, attack the XCOM base, and respond to player actions. Gameplay unfolds in real time but after players have coordinated their response, the resolution phase (in which their previous, frantic planning comes to fruition) will be untimed. This feature will no doubt create an interesting dynamic for recreating the tension which the original PC games were so well-known for.
The game is set to be released sometime in the fourth quarter of this year, but it will be demoed by Fantasy Flight at Gen Con Indy 2014 at the Fantasy Flight stall. If you’re at the con and get to try the game, let us know what it’s like as we’re itching to give it a go.
Remember how Ubisoft announced at E3 back in June that PlayStation 4 owners who purchase Far Cry 4 would be able to invite their friends to join in on the sandbox mayhem, even if they don’t own the game themselves? Well, turns out the old adage “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is” is apt here as there is a slight caveat to that exclusive feature…
Released during Gamescom, the ‘Keys to Kyrat’ trailer explains that those PS4 version owners will be given ten keys to Kyrat, which can be gifted to any friend on their friends list, enabling them to play together for up to two hours as a sort of trial. Don’t get me wrong; this makes absolute sense. I think any of us who truly believed free-loading (essentially) would be allowed in that manner were delusional. As those who played the beta got a taste of, Destiny will have a competitive multiplayer focused zone called ‘the Crucible’. Special armors, weaponry and gear can be earned there and taken into the rest of the game. Now, a new multiplayer trailer out of Gamescom has revealed new arenas and more gameplay than ever seen outside of the beta.
At the PlayStation Gamescom press briefing, Bungie debuted the footage, which can be viewed embedded below. Game types locked throughout the beta, such as Skirmish and Clash, are displayed in the video, as are unique weapons such as Timur’s Lash. Destiny releases on September 9 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 from Activision.
When Dragon Ball Xenoverse releases in 2015 for the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360 and PS3 it will be one of the few Dragon Ball games to feature a character creator and from the screenshots we have so far it already seems to be leagues above the character creator featured in the poorly received Ultimate Tenkaichi. According to the official Bandai Namco tumblr page:
Players will have a wide variety of customization options to choose from including physical features from the Earthling, Majin, and Namekian races to name a few. Once you create your characters, you’ll be summon by Trunks to complete a series of challenges to begin your path in this Dragon Ball adventure starting in the hub area, Toki Toki City.
The Tumblr page goes on to say more details will be revealed in the coming weeks and that a Closed Beta is also planned which we will definitely be covering on Capsule Computers once it becomes available. It now seems very likely the red headed mystery warrior was indeed a custom character as many had predicted, but we will wait and see for an official comment before jumping to conclusions. Interestingly, the game seems to be taking more and more features from cancelled MMO Dragon Ball Online with the female Majin model looking identical to the one used in that game. [UPDATE] It has been confirmed that the mystery fighter was indeed a created character, meaning that your human or possibly Saiyan character will be able to transform to at least the first stage of Super Saiyan. Several new official artworks have also been added to the gallery below showcasing the types of characters you can create displaying both race and gender differences.
