Silent Hills Concept Video Terrifies at TGS

Silent-Hills-Concept-01

Tokyo Game Show 2014 day one featured a panel on Silent Hills, and we now know the depths of Hideo Kojima’s previously unheralded, screwed up mind. Of course Guillermo Del Toro is known for this sort of creepiness, but Kojima licked his lips watching people cringe and jump at Silent Hills footage! He’s sick! And we love it…

At the panel, a “concept movie” was shown to the audience in attendance, and you can now view it embedded below. Unfortunately, the quality isn’t too great, but that doesn’t keep it from creeping us the heck out! A rolling ball turning into a child’s decapitated head, centipedes coming out of the walls, a giant, blood-sucking humanoid creature thing chasing the player character up the hallway…and my favourite part, just because it’s genius and such signature Silent Hill…a door being blasted into the next wall, proceeding to open and reveal entry to a basement that wasn’t there a second ago. Awesome. I want this game, but at the same time, I don’t want this game.

Yakuza Zero Details and Trailers Released at TGS

Yakuza-Zero-Screenshot-01

SEGA – those no-localising son-a-ma-guns! – have released two new Yakuza Zero trailers at TGS 2014. One focuses on the story and the other more-so on the overall experience, introducing all the new mini-games, side quests, combat mechanics and more. Of course, they’re both in Japanese, so bear through the language barrier my fellow English speakers!

Directly below you’ll find the former (apologies for the low quality). Being set in 1988, Yakuza Zero recognises the real-life Japanese asset price bubble period that saw real estate and stock market prices inflate heavily from 1986 to 1991. Why is this important to the player? Well, 20 year old Kazuma Kiryu trades in the market, competing to become the richest, most influential businessman in Kamurocho. As for the 24 year old Majima, his focus is on creating and maintaining the best hostess club in the area. As you may be able to ascertain, money is a huge motivator and factor in Yakuza Zero (not much has changed on that front!).

What has changed, however, are many things…graphically, Yakuza Zero presents a fidelity and level of detail that Yakuza Ishin should have had, being the first “next-gen” entry in the series. Gameplay-wise, the integration of an entirely new animation system and engine has resulted in a much more fluid, responsive and visually striking (no pun intended) combat experience. There are apparently over 100 side quests in the game, with new mini-games such as Disco, Rock-and-Roll shows and Female Bikini Wrestling; Japan successfully retains its title as perviest place on Earth with Yakuza Zero. “Cat-o Fight!” Check out the 7 minute long introduction to Yakuza Zero embedded below. The game releases next year in Japan, and hopefully – let’s hope, wish, pray and dream – it might get released for a Western audience.

Killer Instinct: Season 2 Maya Gameplay Revealed at TGS

Killer-Instinct-Maya-Screenshot-02

Maya was revealed via concept art display at Evo 2014 back in July, but now we have the official gameplay reveal trailer courtesy of Xbox Japan. Showcased at TGS 2014, the video shows off Maya’s knives and their ability to act as projectiles.

The video – which can be viewed embedded at the bottom of this article – also features her Mayan-inspired stage and music, which is infused with the more modern KI sound. We’ve also got a bunch of screenshots in the following gallery below. And finally, stay to the end of the video folks…and give us your thoughts on the character teased. I don’t recall a Mummy-type character in the previous games, so it looks like a new combatant. Killer Instinct: Season 2 will be available October 15 for Xbox One.

The screenshots reveal the games map as well as new playable characters in Kuto, Meer, King Dirk, and Julietta and a heap of interesting attacks. This game essentially looks like the Dragon Quest version of the recent Hyrule Warriors, which took the Legend of Zelda Universe and threw it together with the gameplay of Dynasty Warriors.

You can check out the new screenshots and the gameplay footage below. We’ve been covering all the latest news from the Tokyo Game Show 2014 so check out the link to see what other developments have occurred throughout the show including a brand new trailer for Final Fantasy XV.
