Award-Winning Technological Singularity Author David Simpson, Launches New Sci-Fi Series

Award-Winning Technological Singularity Author David Simpson, Launches New Sci-Fi Series

Plymouth, MI. – May 3, 2016 – Best selling Post-Human series author, David Simpson, launched a new sci-fi series today.  The new book, Dawn of the Singularity, is set in the near future and follows the conflict between those who embrace a post-technological Singularity future in which humanity and strong AI work together and those who envision the more traditional view of humanity’s future.

Distributed by Fearless Publishing, Dawn of the Singularity is available for pre-order via Amazon Kindle and will be released on May 12.

Dawn of the Singularity provided the backstory for the recently released, award-winning strategy game, Ashes of the Singularity which follows humanity’s struggles after the technological singularity.  The technological singularity, which occurs after Dawn of the Singularity but well before Ashes of the Singularity posits a point in time in which artificial intelligence surpasses that of natural humans.

“I’m really excited about this book,” said David Simpson. “With Dawn of the Singularity we can walk the reader through step-by-step one possible scenario that the technological singularity manifests.”

Dawn of the Singularity begins in the near future with the rise of the first strong-AI and the inevitable conflict between those that see it as a harbinger of humanity’s doom and those who see it as mankind’s greatest ally.

“The book really brings into sharp contrast the assumptions we’ve had for decades on how we thought the future would play out versus how the future will probably actually play out,” said Simpson.  “When we watch Sci-Fi shows, we always assume that the future will be human beings flying across the stars in space ships with the computer being little more than a glorified personal assistant.  I think it’s becoming more clear to people that AI will be a lot more than something that gives us directions or tells us what the atmospheric content on Rigel IV is.”

Dawn of the Singularity is available for pre-order on Kindle for $4.99, along with a printed version that is available from Amazon for $12.99. The Kindle version will be widely available on May 12.

As for the other system, when players clear yet unrevealed conditions they will be acknowledged as a “Master” class and when they become a master they will be able to select from two different titles and learn “Master Skills” as well as gain more stats. Each playable class will have two Master titles to choose from.

SLAY EVIL MIRAGES – AND SLAY LIKE A POP STAR – IN UNIQUE JAPANESE RPG TOKYO MIRAGE SESSIONS #FE, COMING TO Wii U ON JUNE 25

SLAY EVIL MIRAGES – AND SLAY LIKE A POP STAR – IN UNIQUE JAPANESE RPG TOKYO MIRAGE SESSIONS #FE, COMING TO Wii U ON JUNE 25

The Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Fortissimo Edition includes six-track CD, artbook, a download code for extra content, and more

3rd May 2016 – Anyone ready to take on a totally new kind of RPG experience should get ready to give a virtuoso performance in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, arriving on Wii U in Australia and New Zealand on June 25. In this new title from the RPG masters at Atlus, tactical turn-based combat and a story rooted in modern-day Japanese culture combine with stellar production values for a real one-off experience. This energetic game features a deep battle system inspired by both the Fire Emblem and Shin Megami Tensei series imbued with a J-Pop twist, and includes real-life locations in Tokyo.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE follows a squad of Japanese teens, including high-school student Itsuki Aoi, his friend Touma Akagi, and aspiring pop idol Tsubasa Oribe. When a wave of evil Mirages attacks Tokyo and kidnaps Tsubasa, she and Itsuki fearlessly fight them off with the help of Fire Emblem characters Chrom and Caeda, eventually freeing themselves from the Idolasphere. When they return to the real world, they’re recruited by Talent Agency Fortuna Entertainment – secret defenders against the invading Mirages – and commit to destroying the evil once and for all.

As the story unfolds, players will explore dungeon-style Idolaspheres, each with a unique theme such as photography or television, where they’ll battle Mirages in richly strategic turn-based combat. Exploiting enemy weaknesses, inspired by Fire Emblem’s “rock-paper-scissors” weapon triangle system, deals extra damage and can lead to Sessions: combination attacks where teammates continue the onslaught to pile on the damage. Battle possibilities expand even further as combatants learn new skills and abilities, giving tacticians the ability to unleash spectacular special moves and devastate their opponents with strike after strike.

Players’ journey through this stylish adventure will be accompanied by the original Japanese voice acting (with English subtitles), as well as the original soundtrack created by Japanese company Avex, to fully immerse fans in a modern-day Tokyo beset by evil mirages.

Launching alongside the solus game (SRP AU$89.95) on June 25, the limited Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Fortissimo Edition (SRP AU$119.95) should be music to RPG fans’ ears. Arriving with an artbook, six-track Special Vocal Selection CD, song lyric cards and stickers, it also includes a download code for all planned downloadable content. These three packs, which will also be available to purchase separately in Nintendo eShop, include additional dungeon quests and costumes for several characters for the complete Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE experience.

Get ready to slay evil mirages – and slay like a pop star – in Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, an exclusive Japanese RPG from the genre masters at Atlus, coming exclusively to Wii U on June 25.

The Culling Preview

The Culling
Developer
: Xaviant Games
Publisher: Xaviant Games
Platform: Windows
Release Date: 4 March, 2016
Price: $14.99 USD – Available Here

The Culling mixes the ever popular survival PVP genre and mixes it thoroughly with franchises like Battle Royale and The Hunger Games. The game drops sixteen players into an arena armed with nothing but their wits. They will have twenty minutes to craft and scavenge the tools and weapons needed to kill off their opponents and emerge as the lone survivor.

The current Steam Early Access build as of the publishing of this preview supports two game modes, a total 16 player free for all or eight teams of two players. The free for all mode is the main attraction, as winners are awarded special tokens that will give them access to scheduled matches with limited edition cosmetic loot as a reward. Currently there is no server browser, just a matchmaking queue. In my testing, a match could be found after a few minutes of waiting, though often the latency would leave a bit to be desired. Xaviant Games says they are currently hosting servers in North America, Europe, and Oceania. Though players can team up with a friend on Steam as part of a two player team, larger groups can only use the Private Match function.

the-culling-screenshot-08

At the beginning of each match, players are dropped into the arena at set spawn points. The arena has several set buildings where weapons and equipment can be scavenged, becoming a hot spot for combat. Right at the beginning of a match, players are faced with the decision to either make a sprint for the nearest building in hopes of beating other players to the loot or using up precious seconds to create a basic weapon for self defense. While crafted weapons will do in early game, the damage output pales compared to the higher level weapons found in equipment cases and air drops.

the-culling-screenshot-02

The crafting system in The Culling is simple enough to do on the go, but deep enough to provide a large variety of items. The Culling dispenses the ever popular Minecraft-style crafting grid in favour of a one plus one system. Starting with a rock and a stick as the two basic materials, a whole variety of weapons, equipment, and ammunition can be crafted based on what item is being held hand and what is being added. Of course, crafting has a cost. F.U.N.C. is The Culling’s currency that is used for opening blue crates, calling in air drops, restoring health, and paying for crafting. Currency can be earned by killing opponents, recycling items at collection points, and exploring the map. Since F.U.N.C. is used for multiple purposes, spending currency wisely is key to winning the game. The entire system is brilliant for a game like The Culling, as the crafting is complex enough to give it a reason to exist without being so over the top that it becomes too dangerous to be practical.

the-culling-screenshot-04

Character customization comes in two flavours in The Culling. Players have access to a small number of cosmetic items to start, with more being awarded semi-randomly based on performance in matches. On the more practical side, each player is given three perk slots and their choice of an airdrop crate. There are a lot of perks available to suit almost any play style. The variety of airdrop crates are pretty slim in the beginning, with three basic crates to compliment the three default builds, a trap crate that explodes when opened, and a random crate option. Extra airdrop packages can be unlocked by opening a new crate in the game, usually through the random crate option. Having all the perks unlocked, but slowly doling out the cosmetic and slightly lesser used airdrops is a good balance between keeping a level playing field while still giving players some sense of progression.

the-culling-screenshot-05

The Culling’s combat system is very melee heavy. There are three main actions in melee combat: block, shove, and attack. Blocking will stop incoming melee attacks and cause the enemy to stagger and be vulnerable to a counter attack. Shoving an enemy will stagger a blocking enemy or deal a small amount of damage. Finally, attacks will deal damage, whether it is a quick attack or a charged heavy attack. Weapon damage is based on the item, with certain types of items providing bonus damage from behind or inflicting some nasty side effects. Ranged weapons have their own role in The Culling, though their numbers definitely pale in comparison to the melee weapons. Guns are rare, which leaves thrown and ranged weapons as the bread and butter of ranged builds. It is hard to go with only ranged weapons, as being struck in melee combat will result in the player dropping the ranged weapon to the ground. Thus, smart use of traps or excellent aim is a must. I am not a huge fan of thrown explosives right now. There is something that feels very foreign about the throwing arc compared to other games. It is almost as if it feels more like a grenade launcher than it is a thrown object.

the-culling-screenshot-07

Overall, The Culling’s combat feels very tight right now. It has enough depth to discourage spamming and encourage skill, without being so overwhelming that it might as well become a fighting game. The gameplay is extremely tense, especially during later parts of the game where the arena begins to shrink.

The audio/visual presentation is decent for the most part. There really isn’t anything special about the game’s visual assets right now. The audio is solid, though the game’s announcer really makes the game shine. The actor delivers his lines with the classic American game show excitement, which makes the whole feel of the game equally disturbing as it is light-hearted. The  lines are a bit limited right now, but more lines are being added with each patch.

the-culling-screenshot-06

The Culling is off to an excellent start. They have a great premise and so far the execution is excellent. The game is easy to pick up, yet rewards skill. It is an intense experience that might just end up being a must buy when the game is finished.
