Valve Speaks out about Delisting the Steam Machine Section

Valve recently delisted the Steam Machine section from the main navigation bar, triggering a wave of rumours about the impending death of the Steam Machine program and Valve’s Linux support. Pierre-Loup Griffais, a coder at Valve, posted an update on the Steam community forums clarifying the situation. He emphasized that Valve’s support for Linux is not going anywhere. While Griffais admitted that sales of Steam Machines have been low, the removal of the category is strictly a house cleaning measure to neaten the main navigation bar.

Moving forward, Valve will be continuing to focus on increasing support for Vulkan across the gaming industry and improving the gaming experience on Linux.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War Removing Micro-Transactions

Monolith Productions announced they will be revamping the economy for their action game Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. Based on player feedback, Monolith will be getting rid microtransactions to create a more immersive environment. By getting removing the ability to purchase orcs, players should develop a closer relationship with the orcs under their command by creating a challenging environment where players need to earn their entire army.

Monolith will stop selling the premium gold currency on May 8th. Players will have until July 17th to earn gold through challenges, spend their remaining gold, and buy items from the market. On July 17th, War Chests will be removed from the game and all unused gold will be converted into Gold Loot Chests at a rate of 150 gold per chest. Any remaining balance will be converted into an extra Gold Chest. Monolith has released an FAQ breaking down how the removal of microtransactions from the game will be implemented.

The changes will be rolling out in the coming months as a series of patches that will include changing the reward structure to remove War Chests, increasing the ways to recruit orcs, and adding new content.

Having won the BAFTA Young Game Designers Award (YGD) 2016 for the prototype when he was only 18 years old, Dan Smith has subsequently developed the game with the support of Ripstone, building an intriguing narrative around the intuitive first-person puzzle action. Players must explore the pristine and uncanny hotel, The Penrose, solving its ingenious colour-coded puzzles and discovering the reasons behind their seemingly never-ending stay.

More than 10 Million Players Have Taken on the Santa Blanca Cartel in Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Wildlands 

SYDNEY, Australia – April 3, 2018 – Today, Ubisoft announced that Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon® Wildlands will get a second year of post-launch content, offering players new free contents, both in the campaign and the Ghost War PvP experience. The first major update entitled Special Operations 1 will be released on April 10 on PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, Xbox One and Windows PC. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands’ Year 2 will continue to deliver substantial post-launch support with four free major updates titled “Special Operations”, each of which will feature a unique theme, updates for the PvE campaign with special free missions and special challenges with exclusive rewards, updates for the Ghost War 4×4 PvP experience, as well as highly community-requested features.

The first update, called “Special Operations 1” launching on April 10 will contain:

  • Teammate Customization is the number one feature requested by the community and will allow players to customize teammate outfits with all items they have unlocked for their own character.
  • PvP Update: A new game mode called “Sabotage” with five exclusive maps,  the first of six new PvP classes for Year 2 and new perk and explosive device
  • PvE Update: A free special themed PvE mission and special challenge with exclusive rewards.

The Special Operation I includes the content planned for Updates 5 & 6 from the original Ghost War roadmap. On top of that, Ubisoft announced Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands’ Year 2 Pass offering seven-day early access to all the six new Year 2 Ghost War classes, an exclusive customization pack, and eight Battle Crates (four Special Ops crates and four Ghost War crates) to further customize players characters in the main game as well as in the Ghost War.
