RECORD OF GRANCREST WAR: QUARTET CONFLICT BRINGS THE BATTLE FOR ATLATAN TO MOBILE DEVICES

Ryo Mizuno’s Popular Anime Series Comes to Life on Mobile Devices This Fall

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xwl6b_B93m8

BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment Inc. today announces Record of Grancrest War: Quartet Conflict, the new epic 3D hack-and-slash fantasy role-playing-game (RPG) based on the popular anime series,  Record of Grancrest War, written by Ryo Mizuno, the acclaimed creator of the classic Record of Lodoss War series. Record of Grancrest War: Quartet Conflict is slated to launch as a free download on iOS and Android devices in fall 2018.

Originally published in 1986 as a transcript of Mizuno’s personal tabletop RPG sessions, Record of Lodoss War was eventually serialized, evolving into a series of high-fantasy light novels that has sold over 10 million copies since the first volume released in 1988. Record of Grancrest War serves as the spiritual successor to Mizuno’s original works of sword and sorcery, with Record of Grancrest War: Quartet Conflict commemorating the 30th anniversary of its novelization.

Record of Grancrest War: Quartet Conflict invites players to turn the tides of war and unite a divided continent via 3D, hack-and-slash combat. Each party is made up of four rotating characters from three distinct classes, each offering its own unique skills in battle: Lords, who power up their allies and summon reinforcements, Mages, who use devastating magic to quickly dispatch enemy hoards, and Artists, who can topple strong opponents with a combination of power and skill. Players can strategically switch between party members and utilize their strengths in harmony to charge their Quartet Gauge, then activate Quartet Mode to bring all four fighters into the fray simultaneously to overwhelm their foes!

In addition to giving players the opportunity to relive their favorite moments from the anime alongside characters such as Theo, Irvin, Siluca, and Aishela, Record of Grancrest War: Quartet Conflict introduces both original storylines and new characters into the Grancrest universe. Players can also participate in the ongoing Faction War, teaming up with other players to lend their might to the Fantasia Union or Factory Alliance and lay siege to each other’s holdings.

The unique properties of the Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers will let fans get closer than ever to some of the shinobi girls of SENRAN KAGURA, starting with Asuka of the Hanzō National Academy. Get ‘hands on’ and help massage away her stress by employing the art of reflexology, deepening the relationship formed with her while progressing through a narrative experience with multiple endings. Pay close attention to Asuka’s feedback from the HD rumble technology in the Joy-Con controllers, as the better players react to her signals, the closer they will become to her.

Fan-favourite characters from the SENRAN KAGURA series will also be available as DLC content – Yumi will be available at launch, followed by Murasaki, Ryōna and Yomi in the weeks following launch.

After brutal melees, rhythmic cooking contests and shockingly serious water gun fights, the SENRAN KAGURA series is ready to take on the world of interactive storytelling for the first time and give players a chance to get to know the shinobi heroine Asuka in surprising new ways. SENRAN KAGURA Reflexions uses the unique properties of the Joy-Con to employ the art of reflexology and massage. No Formats Forgotten: 2D Cinematic Animated Adventure ‘Forgotton Anne’ Announced for Nintendo Switch

Launch confirmed for 2019

London, UK (4th September, 2018) Square Enix Collective® is excited to that announce that, after a successful debut earlier this year, 2D cinematic adventure Forgotton Anne is heading to Nintendo Switch in 2019.

The story-driven adventure, set in the beautifully hand-crafted 2D cinematic Forgotten Lands, launched on console and PC back in May. Its forthcoming release on Nintendo Switch means it’ll soon be available on all three major consoles, alongside the PlayStation®4 entertainment system and Xbox One family of devices, including the Xbox One X.

Forgotton Anne reveals the hidden dimension where all mislaid items from the human world – the odd socks, the lost letters, the missing toys – are sent to linger. It’s the job of the Forgotlings – creatures formed out of all of these missing items – to help the trapped Anne and Master Bonku find their way home.

The end result is a game critics heaped praise on upon release, with Eurogamer describing it as a “brilliant” game with a “huge amount of heart” in its Recommended review, adding to GameReactor’s assessment that it is “one of the standout experiences of the year” and VentureBeat’s conclusion that it’s a “wonderfully animated adventure”.

“It was always only going to be a matter of time before Forgotton Anne made its way over to Nintendo Switch,” says Alfred Nguyen, Creative Director and Co-founder of ThroughLine Games. “We are big fans of Nintendo’s inventive platform and experiencing Forgotton Anne in handheld mode feels amazing even for us and we believe it’s a perfect match for Switch’s fast expanding audience.”

Forgotton Anne is undoubtedly one of the classiest, most dazzling adventures we’ve ever put out,” says Phil Elliott, Director of Indie Publishing at Square Enix West. “Ever since we started showing the game at events around the globe, people have been spellbound by how ThroughLine Games has brought life and interactivity to anime – it truly is a captivating take on how to incorporate animation in gameplay that we think will really find a strong and loyal home on Nintendo Switch.”

Forgotton Anne is already available on Steam for £15.49/$19.99/€19.99, on Xbox One for £15.99/$19.99/€19.99, and PlayStation 4 for £16.00/$19.99/€19.99.

The game will launch on Nintendo Switch with a 10% discount for two weeks (normal price £15.99/$19.99/€19.99).

World of Tanks Heads to Poland with New Update

World of Tanks Heads to Poland with New Update

The latest version introduces another nation, fresh and improved locales and more

September 4, 2018—The award-winning free-to-play World of Tanks is releasing Update 1.1 today in APAC. The update features the Polish tech tree, the 11th nation in-game, and a new map based on the battlefield in Studzianki in response to the community’s request.

“World of Tanks has a big and dedicated following in Poland so to reward their loyalty, we have added this regional content.” states Max Chuvalov, Publishing Director of World of Tanks. “So we are excited to release both Polish tanks and a map simultaneously. We did a lot of research to make the tree truly Polish and genuine, while incorporating interesting and unique gameplay.”

Polish tanks roll out with a full tech tree of 10 vehicles and two Premiums. Low-tier Poles are similar to other nations—fast and dynamic with thin armor. However, they have a distinguishing feature is slightly increased alpha over their peers and this trait carries on through to Tier X. Also, World of Tanks finally brings the top-tiered machines, blueprinted by cadets and graduate engineers of the Warsaw Military Technical Academy, to life, having only ever existed on the drawing board.

With the Polish tanks arriving, it was only fair to give them a battlefield to call their own. Based on the famous battle of Studzianki, the World of Tanks Audio Team cooperated with the Polish folk band Żywiołak to create an authentic soundtrack. The group recorded their own version of the Polish folk song “W moim ogródecku” (“In my garden”) that was chosen as the signature theme of the map’s soundtrack, with the Audio Team adding the epic symphonic sound to it.

Update 1.1 will also bring a very special addition to the game—Minsk, the location where it all began and to this day World of Tanks is still developed.

“The Minsk map we recreated is from the 1970s. 90% of it is unique content: every building or monument has been created from scratch and aimed at depicting the city as realistically as possible.” says Max. “I am from Minsk and it’s a very special moment for myself, those who hail from Minsk and the entire World of Tanks development team.”

Last but not least, a new campaign of Personal Missions arrives with the latest update. Named “The Second Front”, three new unique reward tanks will be available to earn along with the four from the original campaign. Each reward tank is the grand prize for completing sets of missions that will test players’ skills in multiple ways.

To find out the full list of features and content coming with Update 1.1, go to the World of Tanks website: world of tanks.asia

SCUM Preview

SCUM

DeveloperGamepires, Croteam
PublisherDevolver Digital
PlatformPC (Previewed)
Release Date: 14 July 2017
Price: $19.99 USD – Available Here

At last, the day has come. I have avoided it and postponed as long as I could but in the end, there is no escape. A flurry of battle royale games was thrown in my direction and I’ve dodged every so far. It’s time to finally pick something out of the bunch and see what all the fuss is about. I’ve settled on SCUM for a couple of reasons. It’s newly released, backed by Devolver and made by my Croatian neighbours. As of right now, we can traverse 144 sq km of terrain by foot but developers assure us that vehicles will be added at later date. But let’s get through one thing at a time – where, who what and how?

SCUM is a battle royale game that pits you against other prisoners in a huge terrain and oh boy, the game sure goes a long way to emphasize the scum and disgust of it all. Aside from all the usual things you can do in a BR title such as crafting, looting, exploring we now have the liberty to piss, poop and vomit as much as we please. I spent a good hour fertilizing Mother Nature like that until I remembered that there are other players around me and I should probably seek shelter if I want to survive.

I can’t say that the start of the game was exactly user-friendly but I managed to figure out how to craft a small knife (pretty much anything you can pick up from the ground has some use), a spear and find new clothes. The last part was done by sneaking up and killing some Puppets. Puppets are SCUM‘s version of zombies but they are not the sole inhabitants of the huge map. Some of the most useful items (such as weapons, backpacks and ballistic vest) are found in restricted areas, guarded by huge robot sentries. These nasty buggers can kill you in a second so the best strategy is to sprint from cover to cover and search the zone when you’re out of the robot’s reach.

Oh and let’s not forget the most important thing – the players. Usually, you’ll be sharing the server with 63 other prisoners which sounds like a lot but remember how insanely huge the map is. The good way to attract attention is to make some noise in the open (which could also attract the Puppets) or converse with others through in-game chat. And that is the selling point of SCUM (besides hurling vomit and pooping on command). Being on your own, surrounded by unwelcoming nature and some Puppets & robots isn’t enough for SCUM. Out of the 63 other players you meet, you never know if they might be a kind stranger or an enemy. Sometimes even both. Being all friendly until they make sure you pose no threat so they can stab you in the back and steal all of your stuff. It was a harsh lesson I learned after organizing a meetup by a lake with my new “friend” from Sweden. A valuable life lesson was learned that day. Never trust a stranger you meet through SCUM‘s in-game chat, especially if they’re from Sweden.

With all said and done, there is one thing I have to point out about SCUM, for all the potential buyers out there. Considering the enormous playfield, danger in form of other prisoners and enemy NPCs – the path of staying alive is long and a hard one. I was lucky for deciding to play this over the weekend or else I would not have much fun dropping in and out for an hour or two after work. An hour or so is barely enough to do anything (unless you’re specifically going for getting yourself killed) and there is a huge checklist before you should decide to roam around the map. Making some basic tools/weapons, setting up a camp and finding food is an absolute necessity. Of course, there is a shortcut for all that by killing another prisoner and robbing them of all their grind. It is also way more fun with someone else, just like any survival MMO. A couple of friends already got their copies and they’re having more success staying alive, exploring and defending their home turf from other players.

All in all, my first experience with a battle royale game went far better than expected. I only died once by the hand of that horrible Swede, a couple of other times I got killed by Puppets and robot sentries but soon enough I got the hang of it all. Despite the steep engagement curve, there is a lot of fun to be had in exploring the environment, hoarding everything and checking the surroundings. You never know if some unfriendly prisoner is patiently stalking you, only to dismember you while you poop and run away with all of your prized possessions.

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate Review

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom
Platforms: Nintendo Switch (Reviewed)
Release Date: August 28, 2018
Price: $59.99 USD – Available Here

Overview

Monster Hunter has really taken off in the west during the past two decades. Just two years ago, Monster Hunter Generations hit the 3DS and refined the portable experience for everyone, adding a lot of flare and personality to get new player’s attention. This year, Monster Hunter World changed the landscape entirely, delivering one of the richest entries to date that redefined gameplay for the namesake, in what was a beast of game. Not to leave the Switch out, Capcom have brought users Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate, which updates the past experience and pastes it on Nintendo’s popular console. So how does this title still hang? Let’s find out.

Story

There is no real story of Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate. Like all prior releases, you simply hunt, get stronger, forage for materials, and follow linear paths that lead into larger worlds. Sure, that charm goes a long way to ensure that this journey is imaginative and fun, but those looking for narrative will more than likely want to look elsewhere on the Switch.

Gameplay

It doesn’t take a longtime veteran to step into Generations and realize that this is not the same Monster Hunter that we had on the Playstation Portable. Monster Hunter Generations aims for a more quirky and lovable approach this time around, providing warm and upbeat characters to pull the player in – while the deep combat mechanics keep them grounded. Fans of 3 and 4 Ultimate will feel right at home as at its core, the same stylings of gameplay can be found within this follow-up. You still have to hunt monsters, gather materials, and perform quests to get stronger. That cycle has not aged at all as while the player is still spit into this large world without too much of a tutorial, the main mechanics and layout of the control scheme remain familiar enough to not cause much issue. The change however is found in the more subtle additions that add up just enough to make this title feel distinct.

Imagine taking what we loved about 4 Ultimate and soaking it in fireworks. That is exactly what the new Hunting Arts bring the the party here. Players can charge a gauge while out on a hunt before unleashing a special attack with a bit of theatrics. Despite its already campy design, this does nothing but simply offer a little more pop to the battleground – while delivering just a smidge of assistance compared to the bare-bones combat that we have been accustomed to. Sure, the idea of a special attack is a bit to take in from those hardcore hunters out there, but I don’t feel like it took away from any of the depth that we have received from this stoic series for years.

To sweeten the new offerings, Hunting Styles compliment the arts well – as this other new feature provides a bit of a class system for players that changes the way you attack based on your original selection. Styles come in the form of Guild, Striker, Adept, and Aerial, and are exactly what you would think. Guild is the balanced combat system without a lot of flash. Aerial is over the top and honestly makes combat a breeze as the player can hop into the air to get a bit of an edge over a monster. Adept brings powerful attacks to those who can successfully evade, and Striker allows for more Hunting Arts for those that are all about being a glass cannon.

I remember back when I first played Monster Hunter 3 back on the Nintendo Wii years ago. I was so lost and wanted to quit shortly after starting. Ten to fifteen hours later, it all clicked and I went with it – and have enjoyed the franchise ever since. Generations’ additions don’t require the player to have to swallow that learning curve in order to play, and that is part of what makes it so special. These arts may take a minute to get used to, but unlike other namesakes that added in silliness to become more accessible (looking at you Fable 3), it does nothing more than enhance the already great structure in place. Palicoes are also back as your little semi-customizable sidekicks of sorts, and are better than ever. With new quests that let you take control of these Felynes, the franchise dips its toe into a bit of a humorous field in order to add a light layer of meaning to the already fan-favorite cats.

As far as an overall goal, or “hunt” if you will, we now have four different monsters with four different villages each offering their own unique tasks in order to build up to the big-bad. Is there a difference in these four compared to the flagship beasts of the past? No, not really. But having four mega creatures compared to one definitely is a welcome change of pace that only adds more to the hefty amount of hunts overall.

Visuals and Audio

Visually, this game looks amazing on the Switch. I mean, the 3DS looked decent, but there is so much more polish with this title, eliminating a lot of graphical fuzz and muddy textures that typical handheld titles receive. The animations are also on point, with much more fluid movement from monsters and hunters alike. Is it still a step down from World? Of course. It is however the best looking Monster Hunter title on a Nintendo platform, so until we get a proper port, at least we have the last well-defined title before the big shift looking great of the Switch.

Ready for some nostalgia? Generations gets its name by revisiting old locales, and nothing sets that landscape up more than a stunning soundtrack. With a phenomenal new Pokke village theme, as well as a good amount of other remastered tunes, this is definitely a game that players who have roots with the series will want to play with that volume slider maxed out. Other than the music, we also have the sound in general which is well done – giving these beasts voices and adding more quirk with the meows on the battlefield.

Overall

Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is an old dog performing old tricks on a new platform. That doesn’t mean it is bad, as no, this game may be one of the best in the franchise and still holds up. It does mean that those who just jumped on board the Monster Hunter train are more than likely going to be quite disappointed with the change of pace and accessibility that Generations Ultimate doesn’t quite present. It is great to see Monster Hunter become a cornerstone in the western market, and this port’s existence will surely find a wide audience, even if it may be stuck in an older rhythm.
