Crashlands Crash-Lands on Nintendo Switch November 8

Crashlands Crash-Lands on Nintendo Switch November 8

Debut of Couch Co-op

St. Louis, MO – 2 Nov. 2018 – Crashlands, the crafting-adventure with RPG elements and more than 500,000 players, breaks orbit and lands on Nintendo Switch 8 Nov. Butterscotch Shenanigans will debut co-op on Nintendo’s platform.

Flux’s day began like any intergalactic trucker’s: hurtlin’ through the stars with space-coffee in hand, ready to bring packages of joy to various worlds. Then some jerk named Hewgodooko teleported in, wrecked her ship in search of useful tech, and caused Flux and her robot assistant Juicebox to crash-land (wink wink) on Woanope.

Big baddies put the “nope” in Woanope, but Flux can carve out her own space to live while she prepares to get her tech back from Hewgodooko. Collect resources around the charming-yet-dangerous planet to build tools, structures, and weapons on a daring quest to save the entire galaxy…or just deliver your packages. For the first time you can bring a friend along; couch co-op lets your buddy play as Juicebox, helping with both combat and harvesting.

Crafting, taming creatures, and building a home becomes a meditative, chilled-out experience thanks to Crashlands’ infinite auto-sorted inventory. Erecting walls is as simple as finger-painting. Want some fancy walls and floors there? Done. A stable for new alien friends? Easy. Butterscotch Shenanigans even included muzak for maximum relaxation.

Woanope’s inhabitants are not the type to unwind, so Flux will need arms. Craft swords, hammers, axes, and armor, then augment them with trinkets to find hidden combos. Ever wanted to set an enemy on fire with a flamethrower while berserking with an axe, causing them to leave trails of fire on the ground, damaging other foes? That’s Crashlands for ya. Dancing the furious waltz of death means recognizing each enemy’s custom patterns and avoiding telegraphed attacks.

Flux’s trip to Woanope is an adventure across three huge biomes containing a 40+ hour Story Mode, NPCs, tons of sidequests, and big nasty bosses – all in a whimsical hand-drawn style. There is even Creative and Hardcore Mode for those who like to change-up their experience. It’s also cross-play with saves from the PC and mobile versions via Butterscotch Shenanigan’s Rumpus system. Oh, and it was developed by a trio of brothers in response to a cancer diagnosis. What’s not to love?

Crashlands was therapeutic for me and my brothers to make while I was kicking cancer’s butt,” said Sam Coster, co-founder, Butterscotch Shenanigans “It’s a wonderfully wacky portal into our minds, and with the upcoming debut of co-op on Switch, we hope it brings your friends and family as much joy as it does our own.”

Crashlands comes to Nintendo Switch Nov. 8 for $14.99 / €14.99 on the Nintendo eShop. Pre-orders begin today at 10 AM PT. The game is currently available now in English and Simplified Chinese on iOS and Android for $6.99 and on Steam for $14.99 / €14.99.

SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE NINTENDO DIRECT UNLEASHES NEW DETAILS

SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE NINTENDO DIRECT UNLEASHES NEW DETAILS

New fighters, modes, gameplay features and DLC highlighted in comprehensive video presentation; incentives offered to purchase digital version of the game

2nd November, 2018 – In the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Nintendo Direct video presentation before the game launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch on 7th December, Nintendo showed off many new modes, fighters and gameplay features of the massive video game crossover event, including details about upcoming DLC. With the reveal of new fighters Ken from the Street Fighter series and Incineroar from the Pokémon franchise, all playable fighters at launch – all 74 of them! – have been unveiled. But more fighters, stages and music tracks will be coming in the form of DLC, which was also announced in the video presentation.

To view the Nintendo Direct video in its entirety, visit the Nintendo Direct website.

Nintendo also announced an incentive for fans to purchase the digital version of the game. My Nintendo members who purchase Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Nintendo eShop can earn double the usual amount of Gold Points. This limited-time offer runs until the end of Sunday, 9th December.

Some of the highlights revealed in the video include:

  • HadoKEN!: Hailing from the Street Fighter series, Ryu’s rival Ken joins the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster as an echo fighter. This Ken is based on his appearance in Super Street Fighter II Turbo. While he has some similar moves to Ryu, Ken is a slightly faster character and has a different shaped Hadoken.
  • Incineroar: The final fighter to join the battle in time for the game’s launch is Incineroar, the advanced evolution of Litten, who made his first appearance in the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Incineroar uses pro-wrestling moves, culminating in an epic Final Smash called Max Malicious Moonsault, based on his Z- Move from the Pokémon games.
  • Spirits: In the world of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, many video game characters lose their forms and become “spirits” that serve as a power-up of sorts for a player’s main playable fighter. There is a massive number of wildly different spirits, ranging from Chibi-Robo to Dr. Wily to Tails to Revolver Ocelot, with the giant list of characters going on and on. Players can equip primary and support spirits to power up or add additional abilities like speed or strength to their fighter during battles. Mixing and matching spirits will help players get the upper hand against certain opponents, adding quite a bit of strategy to battles. Equipping a spirit is similar to equipping a charm or accessory in an RPG. It’s a way for players to enjoy a massive amount of additional video game characters outside of selecting them as playable fighters.
  • Spirit Battles: The main way to acquire spirits is to win Spirit Battles. After winning a Spirit Battle, players will have to complete a roulette challenge to acquire that spirit.
  • Leveling Up Spirits: By battling with spirits by their side, players can level up spirits, giving them extra power and sometimes unlocking enhanced forms. The more leveled up and trained spirits are, the more powerful and useful they are.
  • Spirit Combinations: With an insane amount of spirits in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, thousands of combinations can be formed. Players will be constantly surprised and excited by all the spirits that pop up in the game. Because players might collect an abundance of spirits, the game will offer recommendations for primary and support spirits, making the selection process easier.
  • DLC: New fighters, stages and music will be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate through the end of February 2020 in the form of paid DLC. For only AU$7.80 / NZ$10.20, players can purchase one set, which includes a new playable fighter (not an Echo Fighter), a new stage and a variety of music tracks. By purchasing a Fighters Pass for AU$32.50 / NZ$42.50, players will get access to five yet-to-be-announced sets, which is five new fighters, five stages and multiple music tracks, as they release. Players who purchase a Fighters Pass will also receive an in-game outfit based on Rex from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 starting 7th Purchasing the digital version of the game with the Fighters Pass on Nintendo eShop until the end of Sunday, 9th December will earn My Nintendo members double the usual amount of Gold Points.
  • Early Purchase Bonus: Piranha Plant takes root! The iconic enemy from the Super Mario series is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for early purchasers. Purchase the digital version of the game or register your physical game card on your Nintendo Switch device by 31st January, 2019, to gain access to this new fighter when it is available around February 2019 at no additional cost. Fans can pre-purchase the game and secure the Piranha Plant reward starting today.
  • New amiibo: All the new fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – including DLC! – will get their own amiibo figures. This includes Ken, Incineroar and Piranha Plant, as well as the recently announced Simon Belmont and King K. Rool. The currently scheduled release timing is as follows, with details about future figures on the way:
  • Inkling, Ridley and Wolf – 7th December, 2018
  • King K. Rool, Ice Climbers and Piranha Plant – 15th February 2019
  • Isabelle, Pichu, Ken, Young Link, Daisy – 2019
  • Adventure Mode: World of Light: There may not be a single-player adventure quite like Adventure Mode: Subspace Emissary from Super Smash Bros. Brawl, but something has caused the numerous video game characters in the game to lose their bodies and transform into spirits. While today’s Nintendo Direct video provides some sneak peeks, Masahiro Sakurai, the director of the Super Smash Bros. series, wants to keep some parts of this new adventure mode secret until the game launches…
  • Assist Trophies: In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, assist trophies do exactly what their name suggests – they assist players in battle! Each assist trophy is based on a recognisable video game character and unleashes a variety of different powers, both offensive and defensive. The total number of assist trophies in the game is 59, representing characters like Guile from the Street Fighter series, Isaac from the Golden Sun RPGs, the Fly Swatter from Mario Paint and Spring Man from ARMS.
  • Mii Fighters: When playing as a Mii Fighter, players can customise their outfits and voice options, and some new Mii Fighter outfits have been added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
  • Wireless and Online Play: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate lets players battle together with friends and family members via local wireless* or online**. “For Fun” and “For Glory,” which existed in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, are no longer options. Instead, matchmaking is based on three factors: Preferred Rules, which lets players choose their rules for battle and pair up with others with similar preferences, Global Smash Power, an online leaderboard that pits players against others with a similar score, and Proximity, players who are close to each other geographically.
  • Two-Player Co-op: Two fighters are better than one! When playing Super Smash Bros. Ultimate online, two players can team up on one Nintendo Switch system online and take on other teams with the same setup.
  • Smartphone Features: With the Nintendo Switch Online app on smartphones, players can voice chat with others in battle arenas. A mobile service called Smash World is also being developed. Instead of focusing on stats, the new service allows players to post and watch videos, as well as other fun features. More details about the service will be revealed in the future.
  • Elite Smash: Once a player’s Global Smash Power is high enough, she or he will be invited to compete in elite in-game battles. These VIP matches are for the best of the best and offer some serious competition.
  • Smash Tag: Everyone who competes online will need to create a unique Smash Tag. By beating a fellow fighter, players will receive their Smash Tag to display on their profile. Collecting a bunch of Smash Tags is a great way to show off high-level Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
  • Short Messages: Players can select pre-determined short messages, assign them to the directional buttons and send them to other players before and after battles. The game offers a wide selection of varied preset messages.
  • Spectator Mode: As in previous games, players can watch other players battle in Spectator Mode. Analysing the battles of other players can be helpful in learning new strategies and techniques.
  • Background Matchmaking: Players can play other modes while they search for an online battle. Not every mode will be available while waiting, but it’s a great way for players to keep occupied between online battles.
  • Battle Arenas: Players can create custom battle arenas when playing online that allow them to compete against other players in a more intimate setting. In a battle arena, there are options to join a battle, wait in line, or spectate.
  • Other Features: There is a wide variety of other modes and settings in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, including:
  • Help – Living in the easy-to-access dashboard, Help mode offers in-game guides and tips.
  • Mob Smash – This mode lets players battle an army of fighters on different stages. Players can even select the music tracks associated with a given stage that they want to listen to while battling.
  • Replay – Players can save replays of their battles and even create shareable videos from them.
  • Tips – This menu offers quick tips and tricks that players will see on loading screens. When viewing, the tips can be sorted by category or fighter.
  • Challenges – By completing specific challenges, players earn in-game rewards. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the challenges are arranged to look like a comic book.
  • Battle Records – The Records menu tracks battle history, with the option to view battle data separately for online and offline play.
  • Shop – Players can redeem in-game currency for music tracks, spirits and a variety of different items.
  • Language Support – Super Smash Bros. Ultimate supports 11 different languages. Applicable fighter voices and names are specific to whatever language is selected.
  • Custom Balance – When battling against other players on the same system, players can adjust the strength of their fighters. This completely optional feature comes in handy if players want to adjust strength to ensure a fair fight.

Unique Regional Planning Partnership: Kobayashi City x SimCity BuildIt!

Unique Regional Planning Partnership: Kobayashi City x SimCity BuildIt!

Kobayashi City in Miyazaki Prefecture and Electronic Arts K.K. have announced the establishment of Kobayashi City Department of SimCity BuildIt, a unique regional planning partnership project. SimCity BuildIt is a freely available smartphone game in which players take on the role of mayor and build their ideal city. Kobayashi City, the other party in this dream collaboration, is known for its unique municipal PR efforts, including the N’damoshitan Kobayashi video promoting immigration which has been viewed 2.5 million times.

The Department of SimCity BuildIt, a virtual organization with the Mayor’s official seal of approval, encourages younger generations to participate in city planning. The Department is staffed by Kobayashi City employees and volunteers from Miyazaki Kenritsu Kobayashishuho High School, where SimCity BuildIt is used as a visualization tool in an official learning program in which students imagine the ideal future for Kobayashi City. These workshops began in late September, and each student created their ideal city over the course of approximately three months. By encountering challenges and exploring ways to resolve them, the students learned about the enjoyment and significance of participating in city planning.

“I have tremendous expectations and a sense of joy for the business we are developing through this collaboration with global game creator Electronic Arts, operator of SIMCITY BUILDIT,” said Yoshihisa Miyabara, Mayor of Kobayashi City. “The ideal city means something different to each person. Through these workshops, I hope younger generations will take a fresh look at the place where they live, become interested in city planning and develop into the human resources needed to create a new era in Kobayashi City.”

The establishment of the Department is accompanied by the release of numerous key visuals, featured on posters, shirts, business cards, and mugs. Kobayashi City has also released an official video on the initiative, set up a dedicated Department of SimCity BuildIt website, and drafted plans for additional activities, including a special movie to be presented by Mayor Miyabara on November 14, the “Nice City Day” (Yoi Toshi no Hi).

About Kobayashi City, Miyazaki Prefecture

Located in Miyazaki Prefecture, Kobayashi City has a population of 46,062 people (as of September 1, 2018) and covers an area of 562.95 square kilometers. The city lies at the foot of the beautiful Kirishima mountain range and has approximately 70 spring-fed ponds. It is a scenic city full of nature and people, offering a variety of attractions, including sightseeing spots, historical sites and cultural and traditional events.

Amid a trend for regional revitalization initiatives, “city planning” is a phrase often heard around Kobayashi. At present, the concept of parallel careers—a workstyle where people get involved after work or during holidays in regional communities away from their own place of residence, through activities such as local PR efforts or projects—is growing in popularity among people who live in large cities.

As well as promoting immigration and long-term residence policies aimed at increasing its permanent population, Kobayashi City is aiming to increase its non-resident population with an interest in local city planning by proactively welcoming people engaged in parallel careers or other activities promoting Kobayashi.

KARTRIDGE LAUNCHES WITH HUNDREDS OF GAMES, CHAT, BADGES, AND PLAYER REWARDS

KARTRIDGE LAUNCHES WITH HUNDREDS OF GAMES, CHAT, BADGES, AND PLAYER REWARDS

Kartridge, a new indie-focused PC gaming platform from Kongregate, is now available globally in open beta.

SAN FRANCISCO, November 1, 2018 – Kartridge, the PC gaming platform from Kongregate, has launched its Open Beta, making it available to the public for the first time on Kartridge.com and a Windows and macOS desktop app.

Kartridge is focused on cultivating the best gaming experience by providing players with compelling community features, substantive rewards, and a celebrated library of games. Completing game- and platform-specific badges and quests earns Kartridge players rewards including “Kartridge Tokens” that can be collected and used to purchase games outright. The deeper players engage with their games, the more they will be rewarded for their investment, enlarging their overall Kartridge library.

The Open Beta features over 250 titles from over 100 founding developers, including indie favorites West of Loathing by Asymmetric, Kingdom: New Lands by Raw Fury, Speed Brawl by Double Stallion, and Production Line by Positech Games. Kartridge’s editorial team will work closely with selected developers to implement curated badges within many popular games, giving players the ability to level up by playing the games they own and love.

“Today’s Open Beta launch is really just the starting point for Kartridge,” says Kongregate’s Creative Director of Platform Theresa Chien. “As we keep expanding into a rich social playing experience, players can expect to see great, new games added each month, community events, and plenty of reward opportunities on the platform.” Chien continues, “We’re also looking forward to seeing how players and developers interact with the platform, and learning what features are most important to our audience as Kartridge grows.”

Other social features include community-based reviews and ratings, and chat, which employs sentiment-based automated moderation, in line with Kongregate’s continued effort to keep its communities safe and fun. Players can chat while gaming, choosing between game-specific rooms or conversing in larger, general discussions.

As an open platform, Kartridge now allows developers to upload their downloadable PC games starting today. Kartridge offers an effortless content upload process, expanding developer tools and analytics, and the previously announced developer-friendly revenue terms, which entitles developers to 100% of revenue earned on their first $10,000 in sales.

“We are very excited to finally let players game with Kartridge,” Emily Greer, CEO of Kongregate says. “We’ve pooled all our web, mobile, and PC knowledge to create something we think both developers and players will really enjoy — a streamlined, innovative experience focused on gaming, community, and fun.”

As Kartridge continues to expand, Kongregate is focused on broadening its current community features, creating more ways to play with your friends, and expanding on the rewards and achievement system. While Kartridge resembles the same achievement system that is so successful on Kongregate.com, the team intends to develop it further than its predecessor, making it foundational to the player’s core social and gaming experience. Kartridge will also help developers understand how players are getting to their games by partnering with robust analytics technologies, and has collaborative plans with other leading industry partners who focus on indie games and developers.

Long-awaited Retro First-Person Shooter DUSK Unapologetically Blasts its Way Onto Steam December 10th

Title from New Blood Interactive is one of the highest rated Steam FPS of all time

Dusk, Pennsylvania – October 31, 2018 – Handcrafted retro revival shooter DUSK will officially launch v1.0 on Steam on December 10th at a special launch price of $16.66. Currently showcasing two of the game’s three distinct campaign episodes and arena multiplayer on Steam Early Access, DUSK has been a breakout hit for boutique label New Blood Interactive and hosts some of the highest ratings for a first person shooter, or game of any genre, on Steam.

New Blood has also announced today that everyone who purchased DUSK before Halloween in Early Access will be receiving the DUSK 50+ page graphic novel for free.

Survive the night against various evildoers after waking up strung up on meat hooks in a northeastern U.S. backwoods farmhouse and utilize a mind-blowing amount of badass weaponry including sickles, swords, crossbows, rifles, dual-wielded shotguns and incredibly necessary grenade and rocket launchers. Battle through an onslaught of mystical backwater cultists, possessed militants and even darker forces and attempt to discover just what lurks beneath the Earth.

Inspired by Doom, Quake, Blood, Heretic, Half-Life and other golden-era shooters, DUSK challenges players with several game modes including the game’s main three-part campaign, Endless Survival Mode and online multiplayer arena, “DUSKWorld.” Developed by David Szymanski (The Moon Silver, A Wolf in Autumn, The Music Machine) DUSK is set to a ridiculously raw and epic metal soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult (Rise of the Triad, Quake Champions).

DUSK is also receiving a Halloween update today that adds a 3rd endless arena, new multiplayer character and Full Controller support! Play DUSK on Steam Early Access now: https://store.steampowered.com/app/519860/DUSK/.
