Modus Games Announces Skully for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC

The adventure platformer will launch August 4, 2020

Walnut Creek, Calif. (May 13, 2020) – Indie publishing label Modus Games and developer Finish Line Games today shared a first look at Skully, the story of a reanimated skull’s second chance at life. The action-adventure platformer that sees Skully on a quest to stop a simmering war between feuding siblings, rolls onto Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Steam and Xbox One on August 4, 2020.

Summoned by a local deity desperate for peace among his kin, Skully can sculpt new abilities from pools of magical clay found throughout the lush island he has washed up on. “We fell in love with the story and the madcap mechanics behind it,” said Shane Bierwith, EVP of global marketing at Modus Games. Followed Christina Seelye, CEO of Modus: “To say this game is unique is an understatement.”

“We’re really excited to share Skully with the world,” said Daniel Posner, CEO of Finish Line Games. “We think a lot of people will connect with the game, and its heroic journey of a seemingly unimposing character destined to accomplish great things.”

Fortnite Confirmed as Launch Game for Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5

While it may have seemed like a foregone conclusion Epic Games has made it official by announcing that Fortnite will indeed be coming to the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 at launch and will run on Unreal Engine 4 when it is released but, thanks to the company’s efforts to allow for forward compatibility, it will be transitioning to Unreal Engine 5 halfway through 2021.

Unreal Engine 5 Unveiled with PlayStation 5 Tech Demo

Epic Games revealed Unreal Engine 5 for the first time today by providing some new details about what developers will be able to do using the engine as well as a real-time demonstration called “Lumen in the Land of Nanite” that is being run on the PlayStation 5. This demo highlights the two new core technologies being added to Unreal Engine 5 which are Nanite virtualized micropolygon geometry frees artists to create as much geometric detail as the eye can see.

Nanite virtualized geometry means that film-quality source art comprising hundreds of millions or billions of polygons can be imported directly into Unreal Engine—anything from ZBrush sculpts to photogrammetry scans to CAD data—and it just works. Nanite geometry is streamed and scaled in real time so there are no more polygon count budgets, polygon memory budgets, or draw count budgets; there is no need to bake details to normal maps or manually author LODs; and there is no loss in quality.

Lumen is a fully dynamic global illumination solution that immediately reacts to scene and light changes. The system renders diffuse interreflection with infinite bounces and indirect specular reflections in huge, detailed environments, at scales ranging from kilometers to millimeters. Artists and designers can create more dynamic scenes using Lumen, for example, changing the sun angle for time of day, turning on a flashlight, or blowing a hole in the ceiling, and indirect lighting will adapt accordingly. Lumen erases the need to wait for lightmap bakes to finish and to author light map UVs—a huge time savings when an artist can move a light inside the Unreal Editor and lighting looks the same as when the game is run on console.

DIGITAL EXTREMES ANNOUNCES TENNOCON 2020 EVENT PACKS AND OFFICIAL CHARITY PARTNERS

Exclusive Pack Purchases Support Autism Ontario London and The Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex in DE’s First-Ever All-Digital TennoCon

LONDON, ONTARIO, CA – May 13 2020 – Canadian developer and publisher Digital Extremes announced today purchases of its new TennoCon Game Packs will support its two charity partners, Autism Ontario London and The Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex. For the fifth year running, Digital Extremes’ TennoCon, the Warframe®-dedicated game conference created for its 50 million-plus player base, will take place from 11 am to 6 pm ET, Saturday, July 11. Due to health restrictions created by the Coronavirus (COVID-19), TennoCon 2020 will be an all-digital event, and it is now included in the very first Summer Game Fest program.

Following last year’s extended panel streams, Digital Extremes already had planned to expand digital programming in 2020 so more players from home could experience and celebrate the joy of TennoCon. This year, working from home, DE will broadcast all TennoCon content live via Twitch, Mixer, YouTube, and Facebook Live.

Three new TennoCon packs were designed for players to feel the excitement and connectedness of TennoCon’s all-digital conference in lieu of a physical event. The Digital Pack ($24.99 USD) is an exclusive suite of in-game cosmetics, items and Baro’s Relay; the Merch Pack ($34.99 USD) includes exclusive physical TennoCon gear (beautiful commemorative T-shirt and pin). And the TennoCon Bundle ($54.99 USD) combines both Digital and Merch Packs at a discounted rate. Check Warframe’s website for more details.

Because TennoCon is a charity event, a portion of all proceeds will be given to Digital Extremes’ valued partners, Autism Ontario London and Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex (ASLM), two community-oriented, local Canadian organizations that help citizens in need of special attention and care.

“Autism Ontario London is excited to partner with Digital Extremes and bring a greater understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) to the game industry,” said Kelly Wilson, Autism Ontario London – Chapter Development Coordinator. “In Canada 1 in 66 children and youth is diagnosed with autism, making autism one of the most common developmental disabilities. It is vital that those living with autism – whether personally diagnosed or caring for another –receive the support needed to manage the challenges they face. We are thankful for the partnerships with community-focused organizations like Digital Extremes that help us provide support to autism.”

“We are thrilled that Digital Extremes selected our organization as one of the partner charities for TennoCon 2020,” said Carol Walters, CEO of the Alzheimer Society London and Middlesex (ASLM). “Families living with dementia can feel isolated, overwhelmed and anxious in normal times and these last few months have been anything but normal. The need for dementia support services in our region continues to rise and if the COVID-19 crisis has shown us anything, it is the power of community coming together to help others. We are grateful for this partnership and appreciate Digital Extremes commitment to supporting our work, our clients and our community.”

Since its debut in 2016, TennoCon’s digital streams, like Warframe itself, remain free. Players who would like to donate during the event itself can do so via Warframe’s Tiltify page, which will go live during Tennocon, Tiltify.com/.
