Sunday Analytical: April Fool’s Day

Well, it is Sunday here in the United States, and I have another analytical article for you guys. I say analytical, because these are based heavily in my analysis or the analysis of a group which I then in turn analyze in further depth. Some of you may find them interesting, while others of you don’t really care. Either way, everything you are about to read is based on analysis, true stories, and a bit of fact.

April fool’s day has come and gone, and this was the first year where I was press during the day. I have now experienced the day from 3 different major perspectives. This article discusses all 3 of the perspectives.

Tell me what you guys think of the new title, “Sunday Analytical:”; do you think it fits well?

Aprils Fool’s Day

Depending on how you look at the day, April fool’s Day can either be fun, annoying, tedious, boring, or many more. Below you will find the 3 main perspectives that look upon April fool’s day: the ones that fool, the ones that get fooled, and the bystanders.

The one’s that fool:
April fool’s day is known for those that fool others, and when you collect a group of people who have artistic skills, and the ability to do pretty much whatever they want you get some pretty awesome pranks. Some developers go for funny pranks, while others go for realistic pranks that get your hopes up and then let them come crashing down. Pranks aren’t only made by developers however, many sites take the pleasure of changing their website for one day for fun or to try and fool you into believing that they have actually changed some part of the site. The pranks are usually planned last minute, and thrown together quickly. Not all plans are last minute ideas; however, some are planned months in advance as a marketing ploy. A good prank or joke can keep your product or site in people’s minds for a very long time, as well as being spread all over the internet very quickly.

The one’s who get fooled:
They aren’t always fooled, and sometimes the objective isn’t to fool the person but instead entertain them. Being fooled is never nice, but it sure is funny when you realize what just happened. The people who get fooled are what make April fool’s day so much fun. It is a time to laugh at yourself when you fall for the joke and a time to laugh at others while you show them the exact prank you just fell for. All though you are simply checking out all the pranks and enjoying yourself, when you share the prank with friends and family you are in fact acting as a marketer for their product or website. As the viewer, you have a fun time and once it’s over it is over and all you are left with are the memories of the pranks.

The bystanders:
The people who watch and report on all the action. The press are the ones who tell everyone what’s new, but the problem is on April fool’s day you can’t tell what is news and what is a joke. It is a nightmare to shift through all the news and try to pick what is true and what isn’t. Some pranks are quite easily determined as false, while others are a little more difficult. Press are able to look in and see who is creating what, and are the ones that hand out the pranks. The press has a clear choice, to either go with the joke and hope that since it is April fool’s day all mistakes will be washed  away or ignore the day completely and treat every single piece of information as a ticking time bomb just waiting to fool someone.

Easter Eggs and Zombies, Resident Evil: Afterlife trailer revealed

Finally the trailer for the fourth Resident Evil movie, Resident Evil: Afterlife has been released, you can see the trailer below.

From what they are saying, it was filmed using the same type of 3D cameras that James Cameron used to make Avatar in 3D. Not only that but the movie will also include Mila Jovovich as Alice, which was tentative before due to contract issues. There is also news that video game characters yet unseen may make an appearance in this film as head characters, such as Chris Redfield.

Resident Evil: Afterlife was written by, produced, and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and is being distributed by Screen Gems. The movie is slated to be released September 10, 2010.

This trailer actually looks quite good, and from the looks of a few of the zombies there, it will also be introducing the Las Plagas virus from Resident Evil 4 and the Executioner from Resident Evil 5. Although some of the action itself seems to be extremely far beyond reality, but then again that is always entertaining. I enjoyed the first two movies, but the third one, Resident Evil: Extinction wasn’t the greatest for me. So I’m excited about seeing how this one will turn out, anyone else?

Geometry Wars out for the iPad

4

Looks like Activision has released Geometry Wars: Touch (click to download) now for the just released iPad at the cost of $9.99.

You may have heard of a game called Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 1 & 2 for the XBLA, and may have also played these games. If you have played either one then you will know quite well exactly how fun Geometry Wars itself is, and what it has to offer. Geometry Wars: Touch offers the exact same features and modes as Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2, including a brand new mode called “Titans”

List of modes included in iPad:

* Deadline: This mode will set you against endless amounts of enemies with as many lives as you may need, providing three minutes to reach your highest possible score
* King: King of the hill style gameplay, where you will recieve only one life, and must travel between safe zones and destroy the enemies between them
* Evolved: Possibly a re-worked version of the original Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
* Pacifism: One life to live and no weaponry to speak of, your only hope is to fly through explosive gates to destroy your foes
* Waves: You must survive as many waves as possible of enemies, with only one life. Did we forget to mention that the enemies com from all directions and in literal walls
* Sequence: Kill every enemy as the levels progress
* Titans: Asteroids style gameplay, involving whittling down enemies until they are no more

Unfortunately though, there is no word yet if this game will see the light of day on the iPhone/iPod Touch. Has my previous fear come to pass? Will applications and games for Apple products be directed directly at iPads now and leaving the iPhone/iPod Touch as outdated material? I certainly hope not. Only time will tell if there will be a version released for the iPhone/iPod.

Who here has played Geometry Wars for the XBLA? Do you think that this will be a good transition for the game?

Prince of Persia : The Forgotten Sands – Gameplay Trailer

Believe it or Not: MasterAbbott is cute?

According to Trixie360’s latest blog entry MasterAbbott is officially 6th in the top 10 cutest boys in video games.

MasterAbbott is always saying he is cute. Him and Duraroc are always gunning for who is the cutest in the capsule computers crew, while I humbly sit in the background because I know if I joined in there would be no point in arguing. Now it seems there is a WINNER.

Now nothing can stop MasterAbbott, all he does all day is walk around the office with his lancer in his hand making revving noises and screaming out “IM CUTE im the CUTEST, in your faces!”

Next he’ll be putting his picture all over the place. But i have plans for those pictures. MUHAHAHAHA! Sharpy in hand, bring it on MasterAbbott!

Bungie releases Halo: Reach multi-player details, jet packs included

Bungie has released a major update today about Halo: Reach and all of the new features included in the multiplayer mode. There is so much to explain that it is nearly impossible to talk about it all, so I will highlight a few things I can’t wait to try out.

They’ve finally added differences to the two class types. Before Elites and Spartans were the exact same. Same size, same speed, same everything. Now they will finally have differences incorporated into them, they will be stronger, faster, have more health and more shields. The only negative about this is the question if elites will be playable by any selection, or if there will only be certain modes in which you can choose to play as an Elite.

There also is now the inclusion of loud outs allowing you to choose between pre-determined sets of equipment and armor abilities. The only negative factor of this is, that you can only choose between the ones set by Bungie, and there is no choice to customize these load outs yourself. Plus certain loud outs will not be available for all game types according to their press release.

These armor abilities are quite interesting too. These are not only including a jetpack for extreme aerial boost fights. There is also the inclusion of an “armor lock” system which makes you invincible from all attacks, however it locks your armor making you unable to move. Basically turning you into a stationary turret. Add this with the sprinting ability and the active camouflage that we are all used to, it will turn into some very interesting fights.

Add in a multitude of new weapons, a new health and shield system, and Halo multi-player will never be the same.

This is just a small sample of what was announced in the press release, to view more watch the trailer below for the multiplayer, as well as clicking the link above or here to read Bungie‘s press release.
