Third Person Driving – “I win Science!”

Below is a NSFW (S0me cussing) video of rooster teeth trying out the new third person driving technology. Okay, not really, they just some really expensive camera equipment to a pole which was connected to the back of a truck. TADA! enjoy.

I would just like to add that GTA4 had really bad driving physics. Maybe they were realistic or maybe they weren’t, all I know is that it was the only thing really bad about the game. You always had to adjust your camera and you weren’t able to go very fast without losing all control of your vehicle when you took a turn. Only GTA game that I’ve preferred quick travel via a taxi.

“Cash for Comments” : The Paradox

(All names have been removed for obvious reasons)

An editor for a certain Australian magazine claims that he was fired for posting an internal email on facebook. He claims it was an attempt to “blow the whistle” on video game companies pressuring publications into giving good reviews.

According to the editor the company emailed him and said:

“This is the biggest game we’ve done since _____, and is already receiving Game of the Year 2010 nominations from specialists all around the world, can you please ensure _____’s article reflects this — he needs to respect the huge achievement he’s writing about here.”

Now lets get the clear stuff out of the way. If this pressures you into giving a good review then you have some major problems. All I see here is some information that is worth mentioning within the review.

Since that is out of the way, lets look at the topic of being pressured into giving good reviews. According to other reports there have been threats to pull funds but they are rare. “threats from game makers to pull advertisements over unfavorable coverage did occur but not very often” as stated by another editor.

The main reason that threats to pull advertisements are empty threats is because giving into these threats can harm the publicists in the long run. It creates a form of paradox. As you begin to give in to threats or take bribes your credibility wears off and you will lose readers and then there is no one to read the review. If no one is going to read the review there isn’t much point of reviewing it and the site isn’t attractive to the advertisers anymore. This creates a type of paradox that would cause the system to crash in on itself. According to the statement of another editor “I’d like to think games companies understand that and I think most of them do.” he continues to say “But such occasions are infrequent and often the threat is never followed through.” Giving into a threat only shows the weak spines of the editors as well as the desperation of the game makers.

I can’t speak for other publicists, but if we at Capsule Computers were to receive one of these threats we aren’t going to take it very kindly. We aren’t simply another publisher you can push around. We’d give the game a -85 Capsules out of 10 on the spot. -85 for B.S.

UFC Undisputed 2010 Demo details released

3

THQ has finally released details on who you will be able to sample during the demo of the second UFC Undisputed game. The names that have been released are; Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida, Rashad “Sugar” Evans, and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson. Quite a lot of the biggest names in the UFC being released in the demo.

The good news is that this is a vast upgrade from the previous demo released for UFC Undisuputed 2009, which featured only two fighters; Chuck “The Iceman” Lidell and Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

Also included in this demo release are two modes of competition. There is your standard Exhibition style match, and then the all new Tournament bracket whose details have yet been revealed.

Unfortunately what has not been released is a release date for the demo, though THQ stated that they would like to have the demo out a full month before retail release of the game. Which would put the release date for the demo on April 25th though this is tentative at best.

Despite the drama that has been happening between the UFC and EA, I can’t wait for this game, as I loved UFC Undisputed 2009, and I’m also excited to see how things will be different in EA Sports: MMA. Overall the consumer wins through this drama of trying to outdo each other. What do you guys think about this? Anyone here a die hard MMA fan?

One million have chosen the best XBLA games of 2009

The results are in, and over 1million people voted for their favorite XBLA titles of 2009. Below are the results for each category.

Best Overall Arcade Game: Trials HD
Best Original Game: Splosion Man
Best Family Game: Hasbro Family Game Night
Best Co-Operative Multiplayer: Battlefield 1943
Best Competitive Multiplayer: Battlefield 1943
Best Solo Game: Shadow Complex
Best Innovation: Trials HD
Best Graphics: Shadow Complex
Best Classic/Remake: Banjo-Tooie

The list is good, but there is one thing I don’t agree with: “Best Co-Operative Multiplayer: Battlefield 1943”. Don’t get me wrong, Battlefield 1943 is a very fun multiplayer experience, but I don’t feel that it fits into the Co-Operative multiplayer category. If I were to say, “Let’s play some co-op in halo 3”, would you think team deathmatch? No, you would think co-op campaign. If I said, “Let’s play Co-op in Modern Warfare 2”, what do you think? Spec-ops of course! Co-operative multiplayer is co-op in my opinion, not team based online competitive multiplayer. So based on that, I believe ‘Splosion Man should have won, because that had some fun co-op. But that’s just my opinion, clearly the majority of one million voters felt differently.

Infinity Ward lose another TWO key members

Looks like more key members of Infinity Ward have left the company. We all know that Jason West & Vince Zampella left pretty much right after Modern Warfare 2 was released and now two more have been reported to have left last week.

Todd Alderman and Francesco Gigliotte are the newest members looking for jobs elsewhere. Both Todd and Francesco were big key members in getting Modern Warfare 2 up and running. Francesco was Infinity Ward’s lead software engineer and Todd was a Lead Designer and also had a big part in Modern Warfare’s multi-player side.

With 4 super key memebers of the Infinity Ward team gone. We might be looking at a possible disaster when the next Infinity Ward release of Modern Warfare 2 arrives. Will they be able to weather this little storm or could it be the begining of the end as we know it for Modern Warfare / Call Of Duty ?

Could EA’s Medal Of Honor slip past and grab it the NO#1 spot once again ? As most people are already saying. Only time will tell.

Let us know what you think of this. Why is everyone leaving Infinity Ward ? Where are they going ? So many questions … we will find out 😉

Xbox 360 Update: USB support

This morning the Xbox 360 Update for USB support went live. It isn’t that big of an update so should only take you about 15 minutes at most with a slow connection. If you have plans to play and are connected to the internet, i would suggest to turn on your Xbox early and start the update  so that it finishes and you can play.

As mentioned earlier, this update enables you to use a USB memory device in order to save games, files, and accounts. It is intended for flash drives with up to 16GB but no less then 1GB. Only 2 flash drives can be in your xbox at one time, allowing for a maximum of 32GB of memory added on. This does not mean; however, that you are only limited to 2 flash drives. As long as you have flash drives you can continually swap them out, even though I don’t see why you would have so many. Upon plugging in your flash drive, the Xbox 360 should auto detect it and then you can format the desired memory allocation by going to setting, memory, and selecting the right storage device.

This update will make memory cards obsolete, and Microsoft is releasing a specially branded Xbox 360 flash drive (8GB, and 16GB in size and set to release in May) that will already be formatted. These flash drives will also cause the update to take place if the Xbox 360 you plug them into does not already have the update. (Pretty much to enable the flash drives to work on Xbox 360s that do not have internet access)

What do you guys think? I think it is pretty sweet, I’m a Computer Science major so I’m always carrying at least two 16GB flash drives around with me. Ill probably format 3GB so I can hold my Xbox Live account and some save files for playing at friend’s houses.

This months deals are very nice, The Maw is a fun game along with 2 decent DLCs. There are also some really good games coming to games on demand, Halo 3 anyone?

On the other hand, the DLC is lacking, and there is only 1 arcade release? What is up with that?
