Story:

Play as Faith Connors, a “Runner”  who must run, slide, zip and jump between rooftops to stop a deadly threat in a deceived world. You’re supposedly in a world where everything is perfect and the law has complete control, but you’re reason for existence is to stop those that are corrupt in that world. Run and protect the world from a deadly threat brought by the bad people behind this world that’s supposedly perfect.

Sound and Graphics:

Further into the game, as things become intense, the sound is invigorating and has that pace that makes you keep going, which is what this game should be like. You’re constantly running, jumping and sliding under things to get to the end. The music helps you along the way. The game looks better than great. This game was created to look amazing on the iPhone and iPod Touch and it definitely lives it up to it. This game has the quality of graphics that when you open it up, you get a shock and have to absorb it all in. Every angle, every object and every character looks stunning. There are very few games that have the kind of graphics to compete with this one. Those games have not even arrived in the App Store yet, so Mirror’s Edge is one of the first surprisingly sharp graphics games since the App Store became available. When you’re not being attacked, the background music is a simple tune that keeps you focused in the game and makes it feel like you’re the only one in the world, which makes it a cool game to play. The sound effects are good and you hear Faith lose her breath when she falls or jumps too far. It really has great sound and really stunning graphics. This is overall the best-looking game available in the App Store at the time of release.

Controls and Gameplay:

The controls in this game are pretty much just flicking and sliding your finger, which makes it easy, but it also makes it easier to forget what combo of sliding does what. Because of all the elements in this game, there are a lot of different gestures to be used when playing. It does remind you once in a while what to do, so you won’t forget, but sometimes it can get complicated. This game is amazing and the action packed, parkour-style game is the coolest thing ever. It is a side-scroller, but it’s a great side-scroller. Running across rooftops, jumping up rafters, ricocheting off walls and so much more makes this the best action-adventure game for many different platforms. For the iPhone, it is amazing beyond belief. There is no other game in the App Store that even comes close to the gameplay in this, or the graphics for that matter. This game does get complicated further in, but that guarantees longer playtime, which give it better play value. This is one of those games that’ll end up staying on your iPhone or iPod touch for a long time. You can even compete with your friends via Facebook integration! Post your scores and set fast times to show off to your friends! Maybe they’ll try to be your stats, but you could always top them again. This becomes a very intense game that is just amazing. There’s no competition for this game. Right now, it’s the only one like it in the App Store, so enjoy the new generation of iPhone gaming. This is truly one of the best games there is. Enjoy having an alternate world in your pocket.

Summary:

After playing this for hours and continuing to enjoy it immensely, this game is all-in-all amazing. There is nothing that even comes to close to the storyline of this game. This is something that looks like it should be on a console, yet it can be played on an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. It’s unbelievable how this can be played not only on iPhone 4, but on older generation iPhones as well. I give this an EXCELLENT rating of 9.5 capsules because of the stunning graphics, unbelievably intense gaming, the controls and everything else I didn’t have space to write about.

Yakuza 4 US Box Art – Better Than The Original Box Art?

Sega unveiled the box art for the Western release of  Yakuza 4 recently, what do you all think? Personally, I love it, this is coming from the guy who HATED the box art to Yakuza 3, but this is really nice in my opinion. But upon looking at it, it begs the question, is this BETTER than the box art our neighbors to the East got when they got Yakuza 4 earlier this year? Let’s take a look:

Hurm. That’s way better than the box art to the third game, but really I’m not feeling it. For once, I honestly believe the American version of a Yakuza game got the better box art! What do you guys think?

Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs Due Out this Winter!

Pokemon is a huge franchise that has no doubt has had some very successful spin-off titles. Among the many out there is the Pokemon Ranger series for the Nintendo DS. Nintendo have now announced the date that the brand new title, Pokemon Ranger: Guardian Signs will be launching as well as quite a bit more info. Here is a bit of the official press release to fill you in on what to expect:

Take on the role of a Pokémon Ranger tasked with protecting the local people and wild Pokémon from the nasty Pokémon Pinchers with the help of your partner, Ukulele Pichu. To save the land from the powers of darkness, join forces with the Legendary Pokémon and stop the Pokémon Pinchers from their evil plans!

Capture and befriend Pokémon by circling them with the Capture Styler on the Nintendo DS Touch Screen. Pokémon that you befriend will support you on your adventure by using their abilities to clear obstacles that stand in your way or by helping you capture even stronger Pokémon. For the first time in the series, you can call Pokémon to your aid by drawing their Ranger Sign on the Nintendo DS Touch Screen. There are many Pokémon available to support you, as well as a number of Legendary Pokémon, including Raikou, Entei and Suicune.

As a Pokémon Ranger, your day will often involve being sent on a Mission, which may involve finding a missing person, stopping a natural disaster, or protecting the peace in another dramatic way. If you are successful and complete the Mission, then the game story will advance. Each chapter in the game features a series of dynamic tasks and puzzle-solving challenges using the powers of the Pokémon. For example, you may call upon a Pokémon in the Water-group to help put out a fire.

You can also enjoy the Wireless Multiplayer Missions with up to three other Pokémon Rangers by using the Nintendo DS Local Wireless Connection. From 5th November two Special Missions, “Protect the Blue Sphere” and “Deoxys and the Odd Temple” will be available for a limited time via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Take on the Special Mission “Deoxys and the Odd Temple” with friends via the Local Wireless Connection and once cleared send Deoxys to your copy of Pokémon Diamond Version, Pokémon Pearl Version, Pokémon Platinum Version, Pokémon HeartGold Version or Pokémon SoulSilver Version.

For those like myself who have been needing a good game to play while I wait for the new Pokemon Black & White to release in the States, Guardian Signs seems to be the perfect choice. You even finally are allowed to obtain Deoxys as well which will be be a reason for a pick-up for any Pokefan who wants to complete their Pokedex. Pokemon Guardian Signs launches October 4th in the U.S and November 5th in Europe for the Nintendo DS. Check out the trailer below.

Mortal Kombat Trailer

MORTAL KOMBAT!!

Need I say more? The most recent trailer for the game shows some gory fighting between sahdows. Any fan can probably pick out some of those characters, such as Scorpion and Raiden.

Plus an awersome Disturbed song as the background music. Just check out the trailer and see for yourself.

Mortal Kombat is scheduled for release Spring 2011.

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions Trailer

You know, that no matter how much you try to act cool you still love spider-man. The comic books, not the movies. I admit the movies were pretty bad.

Check out the trailer below for some more details on Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions, and see for yourself if you are going to enjoy the game.

Slice It! – iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch Review

Slice It!
Company: Com2uS
Release Date: August 31, 2010
Price: $0.99
BUY NOW!

Story:

The point of Slice It! is to slice an item into a specified amount of equal parts with the amount of slices you’re allowed to do. In other words, cut something into a bunch of equal parts with a specific amount of parts. It’s fun and can become quite addicting, which is surprising for this type of game. For only 99 cents, it’s got a great plot.

Sound and Graphics:

When I say this sounds like a fun game, I mean it literally. The background music and sound effects are all amusing and entertaining. It’s got an upbeat soundtrack and it makes you and your family want to play this, while becoming smarter. The graphics, for this genre of game, are great. Everything is smooth and looks nice. There are no choppy edges or little glitches that similar games have. This game may be called cute, for it’s colored-in-crayon look. It looks like a bunch of children helped design the game which makes it a more fun experience to be a kid again. It also makes this a family game. There are many games that go for this style and look, but none come close to Slice It! This game looks and sounds much better than most of the other games in this category. If you’re looking for something that looks like and sounds like a fun children’s game, then this may be  the right one for you.

Gameplay and Controls:

Gameplay is simple, then it gets a little harder and moves into the really hard zone. You draw a line or many lines across an object to slice it into many different pieces with a limited amount of separation lines. You Slice It! That’s the name of the game and that’s exactly what the game is! The controls? Your finger. You use your finger to place the cutting line across the object and then let go to set it and Slice It! Although this may sound like a simple game, it is not. The objects just get more complicated and your limits on the amount of cuts you’re allowed to use change for almost every design. There are Hints that you gain access to, that help you through the game if/when you’re stuck! This game can keep you playing for hours without realizing it. It helps stimulate the brain, which makes this a great game for a child or yourself. It’s a game that you can always have fun with, while helping you become smarter. Yeah, you can get smarter by having fun. Isn’t that worth 99 cents? If you’re into kid’s games, doodle games, brain/thinking games, smart games, symmetric games, line drawing or almost any type of game out there, then this is a great game for you because every level you play just becomes more and more fun. So keep having fun and make yourself smarter. Maybe they should have set their motto as “Raise Your IQ While Having Fun”. Anyway, this game plays well and is definitely something I’d recommend to buy. Great for any time of the day. You could be playing on a train, in your office or anywhere. It is a great app to have for that little break you need from life.

Summary:

Most games that are similar to this one get very low ratings. Somehow, Com2uS has created an amazing game and is only selling it for 99 cents. This game is fun for the whole family, it plays well, works smoothly and is a lot of fun. I was surprised that I actually enjoyed a game like this, and it’s all thanks to Com2uS. They changed my perspective of these “smaller” games. It’s a lot of fun, something I’d play when I don’t have anything to do and I give it a VERY GOOD rating of 9 capsules because it’s great, but it is a smaller game and I don’t see much replay value.

RedLynx Reveals MotoHeroz Coming to the WiiWare!

Developers of the hugely popular Trials HD, RedLynx, have now announced their newest project that will be headed to the WiiWare download service, MotoHeroz. MotoHeroz is a platforming/racing game with a single player adventure and a 2 to 4 player local multi-player mode. Players can also expect to see a new type of daily online competition, in which a new online track opens up daily to give you constant new opportunities for the top of the Leader Boards.

Players race, chase, and rally their way through a rich, challenging world, competing against their friends for the fastest times, entering daily races, and hunting for secrets and coins.

“With this game, we are taking our expertise in downloadable content, addictive gameplay, and the racing genre, and adapting it to the strengths of the Wii,” said Antti Ilvessuo, Creative Director of RedLynx. “The result is a unique, appealing game that combines racing game thrills with platformer charm,” he added.

Features Include:

  • Simple but effective physics deliver an addictive gaming experience
  • Single player story mode with memorable characters and rich visuals
  • Four-player party mode that’s easy for anyone to pick up and play
  • Ghost race against any player’s time on any track in the game
  • Global and Friend-based Leader Boards to fuel your competitive fires
  • Brand new kind of daily online competition, where new tracks and Leader Boards are opened and closed each day
  • Steady 60 FPS, widescreen support, and blazing fast load times
  • Packed with content, including 100+ tracks and three game modes

“We’re thrilled to be working with Nintendo on this project,” said Tero Virtala, CEO of RedLynx. “With a game like MotoHeroz, we are expanding the number of retail quality releases we are delivering to online marketplaces.”

Trials HD has now sold over 1 Million downloads on the Xbox Live Marketplace and with RedLynx backing MotoHeroz, I think Nintendo owners should be quite pleased to see this brand new title headed to the WiiWare. Not date has been given on release as of yet due to the game still being in development but it is looking like RedLynx is aiming for an early 2011 release of this unique side-scrolling racing adventure. We will be sure to bring you more on MotoHeroz as it releases.
