Story
What happens when your brother decides that your toy soldier army is too strong and you simply can’t be beat? He cheats of course, and grabs tons of unrelated toys to attempt to take you down. Of course, since you are so awesome you easily beat him with your normal toy soldiers and never let him live down the moment. The new Toy Soldiers: Invasion DLC is just like this scenario.

In this case the British is your brother, and they have discovered a plethora of new toys to take your soldiers out with. Play as the German army as you attempt to stop this invasion of “alien” toys and beat the British down into utter humiliation.

Gameplay
The gameplay is exactly like it is in the rest of the game. This isn’t the Toy Soldiers review, this is a review on the DLC. If you have never played the game, read the review and download the demo. Both links are available at the top. The Invasion DLC lets you play as the German army against a British army who has found new technology. There are 3 levels with multiple waves of enemies on them.

Since this is an Invasion, there is new Invasion art, new “Alien” soldiers, special in game “Alien” vehicles, and a whole bunch of other stuff that doesn’t fit in a WWII theme. There are also two new maps that come with the DLC enabling for bigger battles online in multiplayer and then there is also a survival map to test your skills on.

The new boss is “50 tons of giant tin-toy robot death”. The thing is huge and menacing, just like all the bosses found in the game. It may require a few attempts and a lot of strategic unit placing in order to destroy it on harder settings. The 3 level Invasion Campaign is short and sweet. If you are a fan of Toy Soldiers you will enjoy the new levels to plan on as well as the new Golden Rockets to find.

Achievements
There are 3 new achievements, and they follow suit with the achievements from the first DLC and the achievement types in the actual game. This time around, the golden blocks that are usually located in each level, have been replaced with golden rockets. The rest, is exactly the same; beat a boss, and destroy stuff. The Rockets are definitely the hardest part, the other two will just come from playing.

Below is the achievement list:

  • Rocketman – 15 – Find all the golden rockets in Invasion!single player levels.
  • Mr. Roboto – 25 – Defeat the dreaded RoboBob boss.
  • Foo Fighter – 10 – Shoot down 40 UFO’s in one level with the new P51 Mustang.

Overview
There is plenty to do in this DLC and a bunch of extras to play around with. Along with a new mini-campaign, new opponents, new survival map, new achievements, and new multiplayer maps; there is tons to do. While this bit of DLC isn’t exactly historically accurate, as the rest of the game attempted to be; it sure is a lot of fun to fly P51 Mustang WWII fighter plane or drive the T-17 Space Tank as you defend against the enemy units. Like the previous DLC, this DLC simply adds more to play in  the Toy Soldiers game and I’m sure anyone still playing this game is going to love the new scenery and new enemies that you encounter in this DLC.
I give Toy Soldiers: Invasion DLC

It is an aerial action game, complete with customizable characters and online multiplayer.  Available now for the Xbox 360, PS3, Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii, MySims features 42 missions in a single player campaign, plus 2 online or offline multiplayer modes: Dogfight and Race.  By defeating enemies, players can unlock specialized weapons and plane parts.  Some of these upgrades include giant lasers and wings that make your plane go faster.  Even pilots can be customized in MySims.  Branching story lines are also a key part of the game.  Players can break off an engagement with a boss battle to rescue other players and bring them into the fight.  Eventually, gamers must confront Morbus, an enemy intent on ruling the air.

Scott Evans, General Manager of the The Sims Studio, said, “MySims SkyHeroes strikes the right balance for players of all skill levels with three levels of difficulty, making it an ideal game for everyone from fathers and sons to play together, to hardcore gaming fans looking for high-speed aerial maneuvers, boss battles and multiplayer action.  This makes the game a must-have for any gamer this holiday season, especially as the MySims franchise expands to new platforms to bring even more fans into the fold.”

Fall 2010 Anime Preview Series – Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai

0

Comedies are best when they are taken from a slice of life anime and you can expect that right here with AIC’s new production Ore no Imouta ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai (long name). The story with this slice of life is that the eldest brother of the family, Kousaka Kyosuke surprisingly finds out that his little sister Kirino Kyousuke actually is a closet otaku that has a fanatic love for everything anime and manga related. To top it off their father is a strict police officer and a mother that is way to intrusive with her son’s interests and the house should definitely create more than enough laughs.

As the story goes on they become more entangled with finding out their own friends also have secret sides that they have been keeping hidden much like Kirino has. Plus now that Kyousuke know’s about Kirino’s secret, he has to deal with her own requests and demands. I’ve seen previous anime about female otaku trying to keep their secret interest hidden and it developed into a romance anime quickly (Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu). But then again there is zero chance of that within this anime. So here we have a non diluted comedy series about a younger sister’s obsession and an older brother coming to grips with her obsession.

Fall 2010 Anime Preview Series – STAR DRIVER Kagayaki no Takuto

0

Taking an original idea and creating an anime out of it can sometimes be extremely difficult. It is very easy to make an anime after seeing the success of the manga, or of the light novel of the same story. But here we have animation studio BONES taking up the pen to give us Star Driver Kagayaki no Takuto. This anime is best considered an action mecha, but that would be taking it too easily.

The storyline involves Tsunashi Takuto who has washed up on Southern Cross Island which is the home to giant robots called “Cybody” These robots are only available to be used when unsealed by watchful shrine maidens and used in a cyber space called Zero Time. However there an organization named “Kiraboshi Juuji Dan is set on bringing the Cybody robots into the real world and use them to take over the world. Inside of Takuto’s own school there are members of this evil organization, and Takuto must do his best to try and stop these people from succeeding in their plan.

What interests me on this anime especially is that BONES has designed the giant robots with a different look than your standard humanoid appearing robots and the fact that people are not who they seem around the protagonist. Though this is usually the case in action shows, the way that it looks to be treated within Star Driver is very intriguing and I’m looking forward to seeing how BONE’s first attempt at an original story will turn out.

Xbox Live Update Preview- Now Live!

The Xbox Live Update will be publicly available some time this fall.  However, many lucky 360 owners are enjoying a preview of whats to come.  This preview started this afternoon, so if you haven’t turned on your Xbox today, maybe you should.  Although I have not personally got an invitation to check out the new hawtness, I can tell you about some of the awesome features that will soon be available. Although many of these updates apply only to the USA, be on the lookout for updates on when/if they will be available in your country.

1. 3,500 Live Sporting Events

Xbox Live will support streaming from ESPN3.com directly to your Xbox. In addition to the live streaming of sports,  XBL will be implemented in a unique way. For example, live voting on winners of games and  8 player party chat will be supported.   Unfortunately,  many users will be left out in the cold, as only some ISPs support ESPN3.  If you want to check if your service provider will allow you to do this, go to this list.

2. Zune

The USA, UK, Spain, France and Italy will all be able to listen to more than 11 million music tracks streaming instantly to their Xbox 360, PC or Windows Phone 7.  Video can also be shared across these 3 devices.

3. Netflix

If it wasn’t for Netflix streaming on Xbox 360, I probably would have never had the opportunity to be confused by LOST, disgusted at Lie to Me, or relish in the exploits of Arrested Development.  TV, the great entertainer, is truly wonderful.  A much needed upgrade, the ability to search TV and movie titles, will be added to Netflix. W00t!

4. KINECT

The controller that isn’t a controller but also is a controller, Kinect.  Kinect will be available for video chat on Windows Live Messenger.  It will also work with ESPN, Zune, Sky Player, Netflix and Last.fm.  Oh yea, it will also have games:)

5. Family and Dashboard

Revamped family settings will enable parents to keep a better eye on their children’s entertainment habits.  A new dashboard experience, with a new User Interface, will also make an appearance.

Yup, I am pretty excited for autumn.  Kinect, XBL update and Windows Phone 7 (Achievements on vacation!)  Plus a whole ton of games and announcements for next year.  It is a good year for gaming.

9 Year Old Attacked by Dog While Playing Nintendogs…

2

Here’s hoping Jack Thompson won’t be all over this story. According to British tabloid, Daily Mail, 9 year-old Megan Walker was playing her Nintendo DS with Nintendogs in the console when a friend’s dog dragged her off a sofa and bit her mouth until it literally tore off a piece of her lip. It seems to be the dogs barking on the game that triggered the bull mastiff breed dog to attack Megan, or that is what Megan’s grandmother believes.

‘I think this game should carry some kind of warning,’ said the girl’s grandma Jean Taylor.

‘People should be told not to play it when there are dogs in the room. I blame the game for what happened to Megan. If they hadn’t been playing it I don’t think the dog would have gone for her.’

Megan has since had her lip re-attached and the dog was put down shortly after the incident.

I personally think that the dog, which was a Bullmastiff, a very large breed should have been watched more closely, especially around children. This may be a blame game and I am sure we might see
some kind of legal action come out of this, but if the dog attacked just by hearing a virtual bark on a DS’s speaker, it sounds like it would have happened eventually regardless. The media has always put a negative spin on video games as they are such an easy target. I may be wrong but the comments made  from the grandmother seem to be rather rash and just an excuse for the girl being unsupervised to start with. Luckily the girl is now out of the hospital and will just fine.

Nintendo had no comment as of yet on this story.

New Kirby Game Announced for the Nintendo DS!

With all of the huge announcements about the 3DS yesterday you may have missed out on hearing about the new titles coming to the standard Nintendo DS. Nintendo announced 6 more titles that will be hitting stores in 2011 and one was an interesting new Kirby title. The is no official name as of yet but based on the screenshots that were released on Nintendo of Japan’s website it looks like this title will be going back to Kirby’s roots of a side-scrolling platform title….sort of. Multiple Kirbys are seen on the bottom screen so this could be a bit of a touch screen controlled platformer similar to Canvas Curse.

It really is too soon to tell much of anything but I am happy to see Kirby making his 4th entry on the handheld for sure. Other games that were announced for 2011 include a new Pokemon game involving a keyboard titled “Battle & Get! Pokemon Typing DS”, another Mario vs DK title, and a few I can’t quite make out. I am sure we will hear more shortly and if you want to check out all of these brand new screens click here to go to the official website for Nintendo of Japan and check all of these new first party titles out in their full glory.

Rock Band 3 DLC pricing Change Confirmed and detailed

Rock Band 3 introduces pro tracks and pro instruments, so you would expect the DLC that incorporates even more iterations of every song in the multiple modes to be priced more. In this case you are right.

Paul DeGooyer, MTV’s Senior Vice President of Electronic Games & Music, stated that even though the pro-guitar DLC would cost more, anyone else looking for standard version or pro-drums/pro-keyboard wouldn’t have to pay more than usual.

This is good news because for everyone who doesn’t want to shell out the extra charge for the pro guitar, you can still enjoy the game without any change. However, if you want to play Pro Guitar there is a price increase for the DLC.

“Going forward, all DLC released for Rock Band 3 will be fully Rock Band 3-compatible, which means it’ll come with Pro Mode for keyboard and drums, harmony mode, etc,” said the Senior VP. “The only thing that’s more difficult for us in terms of authoring time is the guitar stuff, so we’ve decided to sell Pro Mode for guitar separately. If you’re not interested in Pro Mode for guitar, you can still get the DLC that should conform to our current DLC pricing, and you get Pro Mode for all your other instruments.”

DeGooyer stated that those interested in the Pro Guitar tracks would only have to pay “a buck extra”, which increases the normal $1.99 price t0 $2.99.

Don’t get your hopes up though for playing a certain song on pro mode, he also stated that not all tracks will support the pro-guitar mode, following by saying that “(Many bands’) guitar parts wouldn’t rise to the level that they would need to have pro mode authoring associated with them.”

DeGooyer ended by saying “We think it’s a really fair price, The alternative would be of course to include it [in the regular download] and up the price for everybody, which I don’t think is really fair.”
