Final Fantasy Versus XIII might be going multiplatform after all

Way back when, Square Enix shocked gamers around the world by announcing that Final Fantasy XIII would be released on the Xbox 360 as well.  This was particularly interesting news because the main Final Fantasy series, one of the longest running and most popular game franchises the world over, has ALWAYS been a Sony exclusive.  Square Enix assured its main fanbase (Japan) that this would only be happening in the west, in Japan it would still remain PS3 only.  Yet lo and behold, Square went back on their word and decided they liked money more than keeping their promises, much to the chagrin of their fanbase.

But fear not!  The sure-to-be triple A followup to FFXIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, is surely only going to be PS3 only, as was CLEARLY stated at the end of its debut trailer, which I’ve embedded below.  One might simply scoff at such a title, a perceived “spin off” of Final Fantasy XIII, much like Final Fantasy X-2 or Dirge of Cerberus, but scoff not.  Versus XIII is looking to be one of the largest and most marketed releases yet, with a fashion line being made in real life based on clothes the characters wear in the game (which will cost you QUITE the pretty penny, over $3000 for a mere jacket!) and being one of the only games in the entire series to depict blood when an enemy is wounded, as you can see in the trailer.  As if this wasn’t enough, the game is being developed with the team who did the fight scenes from Advent Children and team who worked on the combat in the Kingdom Hearts series, quite the pedigree to live up to, but lucky you for you PS3 owners!  You guys are being treated special, this is only for you!  Those gamers with that smelly Xbox 360 aren’t worthy enough to have this, oh wait…

This right here is a translation of Square Enix’s job planner.  As you can read, plain as day, they are looking for help for development of Versus XIII and are looking for those with experience working on the Playstation 3 AND/OR Xbox 360.  This isn’t the first time fans have wondered the fate of Versus XIII.  After the whole fiasco of FFXIII hitting the 360 in Japan, fans have been questioning Square Enix’s promises.  Of course, the more the merrier.  Releasing on the 360 would only improve sales, as the 360 has a larger install base in the west than the PS3 does and is quickly gaining speed in Japan (largely in part due to the release of Monster Hunter Frontier for 360), thus meaning bigger and better FF games in the future.  Maybe Square Enix should stop making silly promises to the miniscule, hardcore fanbase they are trying to pander to and realize that there are just a teensy bit more people in the world they can attract by not showing favoritism.  But hey, that’s just my take.  I’m sure favoring one platform to appease a small amount of fans while poisoning the rest is an awesome business idea.

BIT.TRIP FATE Launching October 25th on the WiiWare!

One of the most anticipated WiiWare titles of the year is about to land on the console October 25th. Aksys Game’s BIT.TRIP FATE continues the series with the rhythmic challenges of CommanderVideo with the solid gameplay experience that fans have learned to expect over the years.

If you have never heard of the series as of yet, or what to expect in the newest entry, here is a bit of information from the official press release:

BIT.TRIP FATE is an on-rails side-scrolling shoot-‘em-up that has CommanderVideo riding the vibe to discover his fate. CommanderVideo will need a little help from the friends he made in BIT.TRIP RUNNER to thwart the Mingrawn Timbletot who has mutated the world into an ugly technological nightmare.

Join forces with the Junior Melchkin, CommandgirlVideo and others to increase CommanderVideo’s power and save the world. Whether you play in single-player or team up with a co-pilot, you’ll have to keep a steady hand to navigate the vibe and aim your blasters at the twisted souls out to destroy you.

Features Include:

  • FATE is the penultimate chapter in the six-part BIT.TRIP series that will leave you wondering what’s next.
  • The Nunchuk™ accessory controls CommanderVideo and the Wii Remote™ controller’s pointer fires anywhere on screen!
  • Collect power-ups to call on CommanderVideo’s friends for powerful shot upgrades!
  • A chiptune-inspired dubstep soundtrack helps bring the action to a whole new level!
  • Video game worlds collide with appearances from Super Meat Boy and Mr. Robotube!
  • Chipmusic artist Minusbaby helps set the tone with a special guest appearance!

The icing of the BIT.TRIP CAKE (I know, bad pun) is that BIT.TRIP FATE will be only 800 Nintendo Points upon release next Monday. For more information you can check out www.aksysgames.com.

SvR 2011’s Road to Wrestlemania Mode Adds in Some RPG Elements…

We still have a little over a week to go before the new WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 launches, but THQ has recently revealed a bit more insight on what you can expect in this year’s the Road to Wrestlemania mode. First up is choice. Every decision you make will affect the way the storyline plays out for your superstar. Being able to now walk around backstage and interact with the superstars backstage is something fans of the series have missed heavily and it is great to see that that is the bread and butter of this year’s Road to Wrestlemania mode. Now the only small gripe I have is that there is still a limited amount of superstars that you can choose from in this mode.

Those Superstars included are:

  • Undertaker – play in a “versus” mode against the Undertaker utilizing John Morrison, Kofi Kingston, R-Truth, Dolph Ziggler or a created Superstar
  • Christian
  • Chris Jericho
  • Rey Mysterio
  • John Cena
  • Of course a lot was put into this mode making up for the choices of playable characters so I am still very much looking forward to trying it out due to the RPG elements mixed in. As usual, attribute points can be earned to improve your superstar’s overall stats. Players must spend these points in the training room to boost their attribute ratings, meaning the desire to max out all ratings is not an option.

Players must choose which attributes they upgrade depending on their chosen WWE Superstar and playing style. WWE Smackdown vs Raw 2011 releases on October 26th and will be available for every console, including the portables and the Playstaion 2. We will bring you more soon on WWE Smackdown vs Raw as information comes forward so keep it tuned here for more coverage.

    Start The Party Review

    Developer : Supermassive Games
    Publisher:  Sony Computer Entertainment
    Platform : PlayStation 3 / MOVE
    Release date : 16 September 2010
Genre : Party game, Augmented reality
    Modes : Single-player, Multiplayer
    Rating : ESRB: E
    Media : Blu-ray Disc

Start The Party puts you right into the game.  Using the Playstation Move you can see objects like brushes, pizza trays, magnifying glasses and swords actually in your hands without the need to go out and buy those silly looking attachments that you can get on the Wii.  You can go up against another three of your friends and family to see who has what it takes to become the king or queen of the party.

Start the Party is one of Sony’s launch titles for the Move and I must say its great fun for the entire family.  Taking full advantage of the Move’s motion controls this not only introduces newcomers to the gaming world of motion control type games but it lso throws down the challenge to hard core gaming veterans with some fun and highly addictive mini games.

Get your family and friends together for some fun filled action and take part in over 20 fun mini games.  The great thing about Start The Party is that all of the mini games are easy and very accessible for people of all ages.  Grandad and Grandma can even get stuck into the action and have some fun with their grandkids as well.  Some of the mini games are great fun and well designed and will certainly make you laugh, giggle and even jump for joy with excitement.

There is not much of a story in Start The Party.  Pretty much you can play on your own but there’s not much fun in beating yourself.  The real action begins when you and your friends all get together and start a 4 player party mode.  You start off by picking a colour pictureless portrait with legs and arms, once you select it you’ll be asked to take a happy snap of yourself using the Playstation Eye Camera so it appears in the portrait and then finally speaking into the camera’s microphone give yourself a name or anything else you want to be called.  Let the rest of the players do the same thing and then let the games being.  The walking portraits look absolutely hilarious if you manage to pull off a funny looking photo of yourself which makes the fun and games even more enjoyable.

In party mode you’ll have a wide variety of fun mini games and modes thrown at you.  The object of the game is have the most stars at the end of the game and by doing that you will need to score the most points at the end of each round.  At the beginning of each round, the voice over presenter will explain what type of trouble you’ll be getting yourself into. For example one round might have you taking part in rapid fire mini games, another will allow you to steal stars from other players.  There is also a Joker round that is quite enjoyable (as long as the joke isn’t on you) – here you are given a big paint brush and with your MOVE controller you get to paint over an opponent’s portrait and to top it off you’ll be allowed to re-record their name to something that might make then want to go hide in the corner and cry 🙂

Start The Party not only uses the MOVE Controller but also takes advantage of the EYE Camera placing you right into the game.  As previously mentioned the EYE Camera detects the MOVE controller light bulb (the little ball attached to the top of the controller that changes colour) and will add the appropriate attachment to it on the screen as you play that specific mini game. For example when trying to catch all the pizza toppings your controller on the screen will turn into a large pizza tray, or when you’re trying to WHACK-A-MOLE it will change to a giant mallet.  The mini games are very easy to play and extremely fun, very imaginative and well designed.  Some of my personal favourites without giving away to many spoilers is the Ghost Zapping, Haircut shaver and Rock Pick mini games.

If you also want to pick up some easy Playstation 3 Trophies Start The Party is right up your alley.  Just by playing for an hour or two you’ll be able to unlock over half of them, of course some are quick and easy like watching the credits where others will need a little bit of work and time to unlock.

If you’re on your own you can take advantage of the survival mode portion of the game which has you taking on random mini-games one after the other till your luck runs out and fail.  The main purpose of survival is to tally up a high score on how long you can survive before crash and burn.  It’s timed and if you make it past specific times you unlock yet another few trophies.

Start The Party is best enjoyed with friends and Family.  The mini games are quick and easy and will make you laugh.  It is quite a short game even when playing in party mode with four of your friends.  It would have been nice to have a little more mini games as once you’ve played party mode a few times playing the same type of mini games might start to get a little boring.  For a Move launch title Start The Party has done just that. Started the MOVE PARTY !!

Sixth Fallout: New vegas Dev Diary talks about the voices behind the characters

With the game release under a week away, Bethesda is now bringing out what appears to be its last Developer Diary in it’s six part series explaining everything behind the game. With this diary however they explain not what technological advances they have placed into the game, but instead the famous actors that have been able to voice different characters within the game itself.

We have Ron Perlman returning as the narrator, because to be honest the game would feel extremely different if he wasn’t there to be the narration to our journeys. Actor Mathew Perry comes in as the voice of Benny, leader of the Chairmen which are out to kill you the player for a yet unknown reason. There won’t be any 3 Dog this time around either, as the Mr. New Vegas will be voiced by none other than Wayne Newton.

Other voices gracing New Vegas are William Sadler playing the part of Victor and Kris Kristofferson voicing Chief Hanlon. We’ll be able to hear all of these actors and more when Fallout: New Vegas releases next Tuesday on October 19th.

Video from Yahoo Games, bear with the commercials.

    Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood achievements revealed

Interesting in the achievements for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood? Well it definitely has perhaps the most interestingly named achievement that I have seen in all my achievement gathering days. That is the fact that one of them comes in Morse Code. The achievement for solving all of the puzzles left by Subject 16 is in some sort of Morse code, though I unfortunately do not know how to read it, maybe you will?

Other than that it looks like your standard fair of story related achievements, achievements for doing a specific action, and then completing random side objectives that otherwise may pass unnoticed without an achievement to go along with them. There are also a handful of multiplayer only achievements to go along with the Brotherhood’s new multiplayer mode.

No tile icons to go along with the achievements just yet, but then again the game doesn’t release until November 16th, so we will have to wait till then. Also in case you are worried about spoilers, thankfully there isn’t too much to be spoiled with the achievements in this one. Catch them below:
