On New years eve Nintendo has released a bunch of brand new WiiWare and DSWare games to end the new year off with a bang!

For Nintendo WiiWare:

Magic Destiny – Astrological Games

A game combining a bunch of mini-games with an astrological theme involving future reading with seashells, numerology, tarot cards, palmistry and fortune cookies. The mini-games include:

Fire Pro Wrestling Will Release Outside Japan…

A couple of months ago at the Tokyo Game Show, a lot of new titles were announced over all platforms. One of the most interesting to myself though was Fire Pro Wrestling which will be a Kinect-enhanced wrestling simulator. The only thing about the Fire-Pro series is that it is really a flip of a coin whether or not we see a title release outside of Japan. Well, the good news is that the game will be an international release due to it officially being rated by Australia’s Classifications Board.

So I guess it is now official that in 2011, we will indeed see the next step forward of Spike’s long-running wrestling series, but I still don’t know how they are going to pull off a title like Fire-Pro, which has emphasis on character creation with the avatars alone. As much as I deeply care for the age-old series though, I still feel a lot of hope for the title as we get closer to an eventual release date. News for this title will be sure to be some to look out for as who knows, this might be a great step into the future for the much loved franchise.

Knives Chau Add-on drops on the Xbox 360 but with problems

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World has finally received the Knives Chau add-on pack ont he XBox 360 and you can now download it. This Add-on adds Knives Chau to the bunch of characters within the game, as well as a PvP arena, a special dodgeball mode and drop-in, drop-out offline co-op (much appreciated!). There is only one problem, the DLC isn’t working for everyone.

A bunch of players who have already dropped the small amount of Microsoft points to download this DLC  are stating that they can’t access any of the content at all. Currently, it seems you need a title update to even access the game and not everyone is receiving this title update.

Some plausible fixes for now, would be to turn off your xbox and then load the game back up; or deleting and redownloading Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World in hopes to download the updated version. If none of that works, then you’ll have to sit tight as Microsoft and Ubisoft attempt to work out the problems.

Dead Rising 2: Case West “Handy Man” Achievement Glitched

If you have been having trouble getting the “Handy Man” Achievement in Dead Rising 2: Case West, don’t worry because it is currently glitched. The achievement requires you to build all the new weapons in the DLC,; however, it is currently a little picky on its definition of “new weapons”. I spent a pretty long time trying to figure out what weapon I was missing, but it seems that “Handy Man” requires players to build only the seven new weapons in the game. Supposedly if you create any other weapons before those seven, it won’t unlock. Logically, if you played any form of dead rising game, you aren’t exactly picky when making combo weapons to slaughter the Zombie hoard.

Hopefully Capcom creates a patch for this predicament as soon as possible. Until they do, this is one achievement I won’t be getting.

If you are die hard on completing the achievement as soon as possible, you can either keep this in mind before you begin your game or if you already started you’ll have to move the save file to another device or delete it completely. It is up to you.

Castle Crashers hits 2 million on XBLA

The Behemoth’s behemoth creation, Castle Crashers, has sold over 2 million copies on Xbox Live Arcade alone.   Plus, the day it reached this sales milestone was Christmas Day itself.

“If we put all these people in a place and gave it a zip code, this would be the 5th largest city in the US,” says Behemoth.

“It is incredibly humbling to look at the leaderboards and see that crazy number. Initially releasing the game we hoped a few hundred thousand people would play it. We never dared to think of one million players, let alone two million”, said Kelly Revak, Mayor of Behemothtown.
“We are so grateful to all the players for supporting us. We’re going to do something pretty exciting to thank everyone” said Revak. “Let’s just say there’s an Xbox made of gold involved. GOLD.”

Not only is the game awesome, but it is also popular! What a combo! Whos That Flying!? Review

Game: WTF?! (Who’s That Flying?!)

Earlier this year, Mediatonic produced one of the greatest indie games of all time, namely Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess. Although it was an extremely  short game the game exuded charm and humor, not to mention blistering gameplay.  Now, they have struck again and released WTF?! or Who’s That Flying?! Is it worthy of standing next it’s creator’s previous title?  Exactly who is flying?  Find out below!

Story

You are the Guardian of Earth.  As such, it is your responsibility to stop marauders and such BEFORE they get to Earth.  Unfortunately, you may have failed in your last endeavor.  So, the Guardians of the other planets have put you on trial.  Are you guilty?  Are you innocent?  Will Uranus’ name ever stop being intrinsically funny?  You will have to buy the $5.99 game to find out.

One of the best parts about the story is that it is hilarious.  From the very title of the game to the constant harASSment of Uranus (reBUTTal anyone) the laugh out loud funniness of the story is awesome. Sure, it is a little immature, but what humor isn’t?  This game will make you laugh and will let you really imagine what each character is like.  As far as story goes, it is not deep, but rather it relies on quirky characters, humor and charm to carry it’s player through.

Gameplay

As the Guardian of Earth, you have super powers like flight and melee attacks.  As a result of an accident though, you have been surgically implanted with a laser cannon.  Much like Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess, this game is obsessed with combos.  Kill many enemies in a row and your cannon will get upgraded.  And an upgraded cannon will mean the difference between failure and success in this game.  Upgrades include a machine gun-like laser, and a solid laser that will destroy anything in the way.  For every level, you are allotted 50 bad guys to kill.  If all 50 get past you, you are pronounced guilty on all charges and you must retry the level.

So, you can shoot and melee the attackers of Earth.  There are also mini boss battles that require a quick time event to beat.  Beat the QTE and the boss, as well as any enemies around him, will be killed.  Some of the aliens will also shoot electricity at you that will stun you.  In theory, if you press the X button, the stun will wear off faster.  However, I never noticed it made that much of a difference and that avoidance is the main technique to use to beat those suckers.

Finally, there are the humongous boss battles.  For each level, the boss usually has a different tactic and special attack.  In fact, each level also has specialized minions and the boss is usually just the bigger version of those minions.  The boss battles can be tough, but they are also very fun.  However, they also are extremely frustrating, as each battle has a time limit of 3 minutes.  For whatever arbitrary and nonsensical reason Mediatonic put this time limit in, it is absolutely the worst possible part of the game.  The boss battles are already challenging and rewarding.  But the introduction of the timer severely unbalances the game and should never have been implemented.  All in all though, this problem is overshadowed by the rest of the incredible features in the game.

And before I forget, there is also a challenge mode and an infinite mode based on each of the four levels in the game.  But they are just minor variations of the rest of the game.  But there is one other cool thing.  Based on how well you do in the levels, you get stamps and “evidence” unlocks that contribute to the story experience.

Audio and Graphics

The soundtrack in the game is fittingly “superhero” like and the sound effects are not too shabby either.  It is pretty cool ripping the invaders apart and hearing the squish as you do.  It would have been awesome if there was voice acting in the cut scenes, but they are short enough not to really need it. And the text is easily readable, so that is a plus.

Graphics are standard fare.  They are shiny and fairly detailed, but nothing to go crazy over.  Although if you let too many of the attackers thorough, your city will crumble before your eyes and that is a good indicator of how well (or not) you are doing in the level.

Overview

Other than the inexplicable boss time limits, this game is terrific.  For the small price tag, Mediatonic packed the game full of winning features.  Even achievements are in the game.  With incredible gameplay and crazy funny dialogue, this game is the perfect game to get when your broke and need something to take on the go or play on the couch.

Looks like the ESRB is also good for leaking information about upcoming game releases as they also released a handful of ratings and all of them have tacked on SCEA for the publisher of these ratings. What this means is that we will see a whole bunch of new releases of old Playstation games arriving on the PSN sometime in the future.

What is even better is the fact that all of these old school games are JRPGs and were developed by SquareSoft back before they became Square Enix. The games that will be released are Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Legend of Mana, and Threads of Fate. Of these titles the only one currently released anywhere on the PSN is Vagrant Story which is currently available in Japan and Europe but not in the US. With these four titles being rated for release in America it looks like it will only be a matter of time before they are available for download for a currently unknown price.

ESRB classifies Hyperdimension Neptunia with an interesting rating description

You know it must be a pretty interesting job to work at the ESRB. The ESRB for those who don’t know are the people who place ratings on all of the games people play in the US so that players will no roughly what type of content is within the game. The ESRB gets a chance to preview every single game that comes out as they have to give them each classifications and descriptions so that they can even be released.

But what about those games that are out of the norm. Sure there are countless sports games and action games that pass through the ESRB’s doors, but what do they have to say about a game like Hyperdimension Neptunia? The ESRB has released their description and rating for NIS America’s upcoming JRPG localization Hyperdimension Neptunia (T for Teen) and you can find the full description below.

This is a role-playing game in which players control a young goddess trying to unite other goddesses to fight evil forces. Players engage in turn-based battles and use swords, claws, over-sized syringes, and colorful light attacks to fight fantastical enemies (e.g., robots, bats, blob-like monsters); damage is indicated by the loss of hit points. Some goddess characters are depicted in low-cut outfits that expose a lot of cleavage; a photo gallery also contains images of female characters in revealing outfits (e.g., tops that barely cover characters’ breasts). Dialogue frequently references characters’ breasts (e.g., “Hey, don’t grab someone’s breasts from behind,” “One grope of Compa’s left boob and we’ll call it even,” and “Where are your two slutty girlfriends?”). In one cutscene, there is an extended reference to bathroom humor (e.g., “I’m all outta TP . . . can you leave me a roll by the door?” and “Man, that was a doozy . . . I dropped a pound. I hope Iffy won’t be too mad about the clog.”). The words “sh*t,” “t*t,” and “b*tch” appear in the dialogue.

GameStop to Distribute the Shiny Legendary Beasts For Pokémon Starting Jan. 3rd!

One thing that is always good news to a Pokémon fan is the news of a new event. Now if you have never heard of these “events” in the Pokémon universe, it is where owners of any of the main Pokémon series can bring their DS & appropriate title into a participating location and download either a special item or Pokémon for their game. Starting next week, players in the U.S. and Canada will be able to head into a Gamestop/EBGames and download a shiny version of the elusive Entei, Raikou, or Suicune.

Official dates for each are as follows

Raikou- Jan. 3rd-Jan 9th
Entei- Jan. 17th-Jan 23rd
Suicune- Jan 31st-Feb 6th

Titles that are able to download these Pokemon include:

Pokémon Heart Gold
Pokémon Soul Silver
Pokémon Diamond
Pokémon Pearl
Pokémon Platinum

All that is required is that you have the Pokédex in-game and also have no more than two wonder cards (if you have three,you can easily delete one from the menu).

It is great seeing continued support for all of these titles and with Pokémon Black & White right around the corner. Another thing that makes this event so special is due to the fact that the shiny versions of these three legendary Pokés would normally be extremely hard to come by so  I would advise to get these while you can as once an event is over, that’s pretty much it. Don’t forget to set your calenders to the dates so you don’t miss out on this awesome opportunity and for even more information on this event, you can check out the official announcement here.
