Yars’ Revenge Seeks Rebirth on the PSN & XBLA!

One of the first consoles I ever owned was an Atari 2600. There were many titles I enjoyed back in the day for it such as Donkey Kong, Asteroids and Space Invaders, but one of the most memorable for me was the classic Yars’ Revenge. I was thrilled to hear the recent news that the age old shooter is now getting a brand new title and graphical overhaul for the Xbox Live Arcade and the Playstation Network.

Atari are bringing back Yars’ Revenge in a whole new way, with an anime inspired art style and a plot that expands upon the original’s story (I can honestly say I had no idea there was a story in the first, not that I remember anyway). The game also features local co-op gameplay, multiple endings, intense battles, and visually striking landscapes designed to appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers.

Here is a bit more information from Atari on this new release:

In Yars’, players will take on the role of a nameless Yar, who has been brainwashed by the evil Qotile empire to do their bidding. After being shot down and rescued by the ancient and mysterious Bar Yargler, she sets off on a ferociously focused mission, to seek revenge on her former master and his deadly squad of assassins. The bio-technological nightmare of the Qotile home world provides stunning backdrops for players to fly through in aerial combat with their enemy.

“Yars’ Revenge is one of the most popular Atari games of all time, leaving fans eager to experience the next chapter,” says Jim Wilson, President and CEO of Atari, Inc. “The new Yars’ Revenge updates this classic with anime inspired art direction, intense aerial battles and local co-op gameplay.”

Normally remakes of Atari classics are a flip of a coin on being successful, but after seeing the teaser trailer, I was blown away by how the clip made this newer version look. The anime art style instantly gave it a feeling of depth and yet still feels like you can easily associate it with the classic. It may be a bit early, but I think we could be seeing a huge rebirth of a franchise here, and I can’t wait to try this game out. Yars’ Revenge should be out for download on the XBLA and PSN sometime in early 2011 and you can check out the teaser below for yourself.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wii gets launch trailer

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, a co-op escapade releasing exclusively for Nintendo Wii, has received a launch trailer ahead of its release on the 19th November. The games emphasis is on co-operative play, as further hit home by the images seen in the trailer.

The video features two men firing rounds out of their respective Wii controllers as they infiltrate an industrial estate. I actually think it is very well done, and the idea of firing real bullets out of a Wii controller is hilarious. On the other hand, if you’re looking for gameplay to see what the game is like you’re out of luck. Aside from the last ten or so seconds, there is little footage of the game to see. Still, it makes a great ad for the game, and it certainly held my attention.

Ghost Trick Possesses Chicken in New Trailer…

Ghost Trick is just little over a month away and another trailer from Capcom has surfaced. To fill you in on what is happening in this clip, the main character, Sissel just woke up to find out that he was dead with no memories of his past and must not only find out why his fate came to be, but protect others from suffering the same fate as well. Each level plays out with different characters in a new setting each time where you must possess objects to gather clues and prevent death from happening to others in a set amount of time.

In this clip, we are taken to a kitchen in which a roller skating waitress is a little confused by her chicken which happens to be possessed by Sissel. It seems that Sissel is trying to piece together a mystery by gather clues in the area and prevent another accident from happening all of while an oblivious chef sings cheerfully. The clip also shows off a bit more of the backstory for Sissel and how it is urgent that you must discover your fate by dawn. Shu Takumi from the Ace Attorney series did a fantastic job creating this vibrant world and the game is coming together nicely and Ghost Trick has a lot of potential as the story telling and innvoative gameplay looks brilliant. You can check out the new trailer below as well as some screenshots and new character art. Ghost Trick is set to release on 1/11/11 in the U.S., no other dates have been announced but as soon as we hear of dates for the EU & AU, we will let you know.

Our Home’s Fox Deity Vol. 1 Premium Edition available now

Anime fans will be happy to know that NIS America has released Our Home’s Fox Deity to a few online retailers already. Though instead of just a simple DVD case they have released the Premium Edition of the first 12 episodes of the series. It contains not only two DVDs with the episodes on it, but a 32 page hardcover artbook that has all of the characters’ introductions, an illustration gallery, and a handy terminology guide for the show within its pages, plus a fancy box to look great on your shelf.

Our Home’s Fox Deity will have the original Japanese audio with English subtitles and features the Takagami brothers who are being protected by a fox spirit known as Kugen. Also helping protect them is a very sheltered shrine maiden named Ko who lacks knowledge of the real world. Sounds interesting already, but throw in the fact that countless demons are trying to kill the Takagami brothers. This leads to many different battle sequences that has not only fantasy elements but Japanese Mythology mixed in, which means that terminology guide will definitely be useful for those that could be confused by some things that they see.

Our Home’s Fox Deity Vol. 1 is available from online retailers: Right Stuf, The Anime Corner Store, Anime Pavilion, Anime Castle, and NIS America’s Online Store.

Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle steps onto American shelves in March

NIS America has some good news for fans of the Strategy RPG genre, Phantom Brave: The Hermuda Triangle will be coming to the PSP this upcoming March. You will be able to get it on UMD or the PSN in North America, or just the PSN if you are in Europe. Fans of the series may recall that Phantom brave was originally just a PS2 release, and then a Wii game. Well this one is even better.

The Hermuda triangle brings with it a handful of new changes such as new characters that are exclusive to the PSP version such as Hero Prinny and the Unlosing Ranger from past NIS games. There will also be new story chapters available that were added in the Wii version of the game. So if you happened to pass over the previous Wii adaptation, now is your chance to take a look at the new chapters.

Phantom Brave uses a turn based battle system unique to Strategy RPGs and also provides extreme character customization and unique battles. Marona who is the heroine of the game has the ability to summon ghosts and monsters to do battles for her. Though to do this she must “confine” the soul into something on the battlefield such as a rock or a tree to make them come to life. The tactical part of this is the fact that wherever she places the souls, they can become stronger. So although this may seem familiar to many fans of the genre it will be quite hard to pass up on the new changes all incorporated into the PSP.

Hothead wants to put you in the credits

Hothead Games, the people behind Death Spank and Penny Arcade Adventures, are working on a new title.  However, they don’t have a name for the game yet.  That is where you come in.  You are creative, funny, charming and downright awesome, right? I knew it.  Then get on over to the Hothead page and give your ideas to name their game. As mentioned above, you will get your name mentioned in the credits as a reward. The criteria for naming the game involves wizards, cards and the following screenshot.  Ready, set, go get that reward!

Here is that link one more time right here.
