Chinese man dies after gaming marathon

We can all admit we have spent more than a few hours playing our favourite game, often finding an hour has turned into three.

However, a Chinese man has died after spending three days straight on a gaming binge. The unamed man in his thirties, had not slept, had hardly eaten and rarely moved from his computer when he collapsed and slipped into a coma in late Feburary, at an internet cafe near Beijing.

The man had reportedly spent more than 10,000 yuan ($15,00 AU) on internet gaming over the course of the year. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police ruled out homicide and removed several computers from the cafe for investigation.  The incident highlights China’s increasing number of internet addicts, which according to researchers has risen to more than 30 million.

Support Japan with Sega’s New Dreamcast Theme for the PS3…

It is always great to see anything release reflecting on the greatness that was the Dreamcast, and now an awesome theme for the PS3 has now been given out by Sega due to the amazing response for the underway charity auctions on eBay for the support of Japan. Sega have now raised over $20,000 for relief efforts with these auctions and are rewarding the theme you see above to any fan who wants some nostalgic bliss to spice up their Playstation’s menus via a new post on their official blog.

There are two themes available for download, European Dreamcast Blue and North America Dreamcast Orange which were designed by Maher and Souha Al-Samkari of modus Productions and each can be easily applied by following these instructions with a flash drive (copied from the blogpost):

1. Change the files you download to add a .p3t extension. To do this, click the filename to highlight the name of the file, then add the .p3t to the end. The themes WILL NOT WORK without the p3t Extension! More info on changing file extensions within windows can be found here.

2. Create a directory within a flash drive with the following in UPPERCASE

PS3\THEME\(themefile)

3. Pop this into your PlayStation3, copy to the system, and there you have it – a really cool new theme!

While the new theme is awesome, I should note that these auctions are still continuing as I write this and there is still time right now to get in on grabbing some rare Sega swag while helping out Japan in the process. You can visit Sega’s official ebay listings by clicking HERE.

Duke Nukem Forever trailer shows that Duke still has everything fans loved

How awesome is Duke? Well why don’t you watch the below trailer and find out. But before you do be warned that the trailer is NSFW, meaning that if you aren’t old enough to play an M-rated game then you shouldn’t be watching it anyways. The reason for the NSFW isn’t due to violence but the fact that there is a pair of something walking right towards you.

Either way it is good to see that after all these years, and people being more concerned than ever about video game content, that Duke Nukem hasn’t changed too much. I remember in older Duke Nukem games when you could literally pay the strippers. Either way though Duke Nukem Forever certainly talks the talk but can it walk the walk? We’ll find out when it is released this June.

Conduit 2 Available Everywhere; Launch Trailer Released…

With the heavy hitters such as Portal 2 and Mortal Kombat being released earlier this week, Conduit 2 may have fell off the radar just a tad for many of you Nintendo Wii owners anticipating High Voltage’s follow up. Conduit 2 released this past Tuesday and hits stores in Europe as of today and with that news comes a launch trailer that shows that this beast of a shooter is ready to take the spotlight and seeing as this is one of the biggest releases for the Wii in years, I think the clip fully does the game justice in just about every department.

The visuals are some of the best I have seen on the Wii to date and the game looks action packed through and through and features 10 different multiplayer modes, achievements, improvements, and battles across top notch maps. So if you have been needing a reason to dust off that Wii during this little drought of few releases, The Conduit 2 is definitely the choice shooter to get. Check out the new trailer below for yourself and we should have a review coming soon so keep an eye out for that.

The call of the Forge gives us a behind the scenes look of Hunted: The Demon’s Forge

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge may not sound very impressive if you just glanced at it. But over the past few months as more trailers and developer diaries were released, Bethesda’s take on dungeon crawling certainly looks like it will be an amazing experience. Developers at inXile give us a behind the scenes look at some of the development and features that Hunted will have.

They also talked about the characters and although they may appear to be your standard run of the mill action characters, they are far from it. Rather than the elf girl, E’lara being calm and collected, she is the most bloodthirsty of the pair and often gets the more level headed Caddoc into difficult situations. Maybe that is how he got all of those muscles? Either way Hunted: The Demon’s Forge looks to make a serious impact into the dungeon crawling world on May 31st in the U.S. and June 3rd everywhere else on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Chrono Trigger gets rated for the PS3 and PSP

Say what you want about the current JRPG market but one thing will never change. And that is that Chrono Trigger is arguably one of the RPG games ever created by Square Enix. Unfortunately due to the fact that the game was released so long ago the only way to play it on your TV is through a Super Nintendo and if you don’t already own a cartridge of Chrono Trigger for the SNES then you will need quite a lot of money to buy one. Or if you can manage to find it on the Playstation 1 then the more power to you. Chrono Trigger was released on the DS previously but that was only a handheld.

It appears that those wanting to play it on their TV will soon have a chance to because the ESRB has rated and therefore outed the fact that Chrono Trigger will be releasing on the PS3 and PSP as a PsOne Classic. The interesting thing to note here is that the ESRB rating for this release is T, while the previous iterations of the game were given an E rating and an E-10 rating. Did they add some new things to the game or has the ESRB gotten stricter over the years?

Hydrophobia Prophecy outed by Australian ratings board

Hydrophobia was a game that saw rather mild reception from the gaming community with middling reviews that hardly placed the game in a stellar light. Dark Energy Digital, the studio that developed the game, didn’t help matters by exploding at websites that criticized their game but tried to make some changes to the game to help make it more player friendly.

Despite Hydrophobia’s lukewarm reception the plan for the game was the creation of a trilogy and it appears the next game in the trilogy is being developed now, or at least has a name. The Australian Government’s classification website has placed up a listing for a game called Hydrophobia Prophecy. The listing shows that Dark Energy Digital will be developing the title while Microsoft Game Studios will be the publisher and little else. We can probably expect an announcement some point next week from Dark Energy Digital about this listing.

Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version could set the fate of the full game

Anyone who has been following the Mega Man Legends 3 Project will notice that Capcom has taken many different developmental procedures with the game. They involved the fans by allowing them to create a character in the game, but one thing that it never has seen yet was a green light to be developed. The 3DS game has never actually been given confirmation to be created, meaning that at any time Capcom can pull the plug without the slightest worry.

The release of the Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype Version on the 3DS eShop is explained by director Masakazu Eguchi as being an unprecedented agreement to see how much hype the game will be able to pull in with fans. Meaning that if the game does not see strong movement on the eShop then there is a high chance of the title being dropped by Capcom entirely.

Two Worlds 2: Castle Defense crashes onto the Mac and PC May 17th

In perhaps the oddest choice of game type, TopWare Interactive has announced that they will be bringing another Two Worlds game out next month. It will be called Two Worlds II: Castle Defense and will be released only on the PC and Mac with an iPad and iPhone release some point in the future. It certainly is interesting to see that they created a tower defense game from what was a massive RPG.

The tower defense game will take place between the story of Two Worlds and Two Worlds II and will follow the trouble that occurred between the Orcs of Analoor and Gandohar. The game will be released on the PC and Mac on May 17th and you can already download a demo for it here.
