Modern Warfare 3 reveal trailer

Playable character Frost

Its finally here! After months of rumours, leaks and teasers, the official Modern Warfare 3 trailer has been released during the NBA Finals in the United States overnight.

The trailer certainly doesn’t disappoint, showcasing an impressive and epic gameplay trailer. Featuring battles from the four super countries around the world America, England, Germany and France, the trailer will certainly be a focal point until Infinity Ward releases more during E3 in June.

The leaked storyline, however is yet to be confirmed. Infinity Ward has reported they will conduct investigations on the staff member who released the plot before the proposed date.

The release date of 8 November worldwide has been confirmed by Sledgehammer.

Dead Island receives 11 minute gameplay walkthrough

Last week we were treated to a small teaser for Dead Island. We saw a very small amount of the zombies in motion during actual gameplay but we didn’t see legitimate gameplay from a player’s perspective. Today Techland has released an 11 minute long gameplay video that walks players through the quest To Kill Time.

The video is voiced over by Vincent Kummer, brand manager for Dead Island. In the video released by Gametrailers we are shown off a number of features, including weapon customization, combat, the quest system and even a few achievements are hinted at as we see progress meters appear regularly throughout the video. Dead Island is certainly a great looking title from what we have seen so far and hopefully we’ll see much more as the title is still set to be released August 1st for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.

Deathsmiles 2X available in Mexico and Canada on Tuesday

Now last week Deathsmiles 2X was released in North America, or at least parts of North America. The game ended up being only available to those in the United States and the rest of the country was left in the dark. Over the weekend we learned that Cave was working with Microsoft in order to release the game to both Canada and Mexico and clear up the confusion.

It seems that confusion must have been cleared up because over on the Cave blog Makoto Asada has apologized to fans on the delay but has said that the game will be available tomorrow May 24th to Mexico and Canada. There was no word as to what the actual problem was with the release but it is good to see that the delay was quite short and that Cave’s first direct to Games on Demand release went off without much of a hitch.

L.A. Noire sales mark 58% Xbox 360, 42% PS3 in UK

Usually we don’t report on sales figures but with a game as amazing as L.A. Noire is, its something to look into. According to Chart Track L.A. Noire has sold 58% of its copies in the UK on the Xbox 360 with the PlayStation 3 taking the other 42% in sales. This isn’t quite as one sided as one would expect but it is interesting to see that the PlayStation 3 still has lower sales figures.

The reason this is interesting is two-fold. First the PlayStation 3 has had its recent troubles with the PSN being hacked, which means that some people still aren’t trusting the system entirely, and also with the PlayStation Store still down, all of that pre-order DLC isn’t redeemable yet. Also the PlayStation 3 version came exclusively with Consul’s Car Traffic Case with purchase, and it was only on one Blu-ray disc instead of three on the Xbox 360. Maybe times will get better for Sony down the line but with sales being slanted as they are, it isn’t a good sign of repaired trust.

Dungeon Siege III demo arriving next week for 360 users; June 7th everyone else

If you’ve been on the fence about Dungeon Siege III then you may want to keep reading because Square Enix and Obsidian have just announced that there will be a demo of the title released next week. Xbox 360 owners will be getting the demo next Tuesday on May 31st while PlayStation 3 users and Steam users will get the demo on June 7th.

This means that for PS3 and PC owners you’ll be downloading the demo right when E3 kicks off which means a lot of the press is going to be pre-occupied already with the event. At least this means you can play a few minutes every time there is a break in coverage from the website about the event.

Dead or Alive: Dimensions canceled in Sweden due to child pornography law

Yes you read that title correctly and you are right to feel a bit confused about what that means. First off, Dead or Alive: Dimensions which will be released in the US tomorrow, has been canceled in Sweden, Norway and Denmark by Nintendo themselves. The reason for this is apparently due to the fear of violating a child pornography law that Sweden implemented in the past.

Nintendo hasn’t given any official reason for the cancellation besides stating it as “various reasons” but Eurogamer states that this cancellation is most likely due to the fact that an online forum user noticed that Kasumi, Koroke and Ayane are all under 18 years old. In Sweden it is against the law to place anyone under the age of eighteen in a pornographic situation, whether they be real or virtual.

These three girls being under the age of 18 could violate the law due to the game’s “Figure Mode” that allows players to pose and view any of the characters in the game, including the women, as well as take pictures. In the end it seems that Nintendo is playing it safe, despite local Swedish police saying that the evidence of the crime itself was “inconclusive.”

Sony releases estimate on PSN outage loss at $171 million

Sony will release their fiscal year earnings on Thursday and today they released their revised predictions for the fiscal year that ended on March 31st 2011. They are reporting what they expect to be a $3.2 billion loss for this time period which is an extremely large amount of money. This includes losses due to the tsunami and earthquake as well as tax problems and overall internal costs. Although the PSN being down fell outside of this time period, Sony still stated that what types of losses they are expecting to see due to the PSN hacking.

Sony’s estimates for their costs associated to the hack are being “estimated to be approximately 14 billion yen on the consolidated operating income level.” This is around $171 million in US currency. This number comes from the welcome back program costs, the identity theft protection program, customer support, network security being beefed up and legal costs. The numbers do not include any of the class action lawsuits that are currently being leveled against Sony, and do not include the possibility of anyone’s credit card or identity being stolen due to the loss of information. If these things due end up coming to fruition then the costs would obviously rise.

Alice: Madness Returns Storybook app released for iOS

EA and Spicy Horse have come up with an interesting way to boost sales in their upcoming game Alice: Madness Returns. They have created a storybook application for both the iPhone and iPad which bridges the gap in story between the events of American McGee’s Alice and Alice: Madness Returns.

Fans of the series would benefit from picking up this application, especially considering it is free, because not only does the application fill in the storyline but it also happens to give readers a $10 discount code at the end. This $10 code works only through the EA Store so you are unfortunately limited with whom you can purchase the title from. You can download the App here.
