Namco Bandai suing over Witcher 2 European publishing change

Apparently Namco Bandai is suing the parent company of CD Projekt Red, Optimus SA, over the publishing rights on European consoles for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. The claim of for this lawsuit states that Optimus failed to meet the commitment they made with Namco Bandai when they handed the distribution rights of the Xbox 360 version of the game over to THQ in parts of Europe.

Namco Bandai owns the European distribution section of Atari after they bought it in 2009. Optimus SA on the other hand says that they only agreed to a deal with Namco over the PC version of the game and had not said anything about a console release, leaving them free to choose their distributor. Additionally Namco Bandai says that CD Projekt Red violated their agreement with the company when they removed the DRM off of all versions of The Witcher 2.

Because of this, Namco is withholding $1.8 million in payment to the company and this fact doesn’t bother Optimus SA president Adam Kicinski one bit. According to a quote obtained by Gamepur </strong>Adam said “Our liquidity situation is very good. Therefore, the lack of a few million does not have any leverage on current activities. Withholding of payments means only that for some time, our partner will have to give us the money with interest.” From this statement it seems that Optimus SA believes that they will have no trouble winning the case, with Adam going on to say that Optimus will most likely win the case in court and “then the loser will pay for our lawyers.”

Nintendo being sued over 3DS screen technology

Nintendo may have been the first company to make their glasses free 3D technology available to the widespread public in the form of the 3DS, but they may not have been the first ones to actually come up with the technology. Instead a company known as Tomita Technologies has filed a patent suit against Nintendo saying that the 3DS’ stereoscopic display violates their patent.

According to Patent Arcade, Tomita’s patent is for “technology relating to displaying stereoscopic images on-screen for viewing with the naked eye, i.e., without utilizing glasses or other devices.” This patent was issued in 2008 by the government and can be viewed here. The company’s complaint against Nintendo did not go into detail as to how Nintendo violated their copyright. We’ll keep you updated as to whether or not this lawsuit will move forward or be dropped.

Burnout Crash! announced for Fall release on XBLA and PSN

We’ve heard about Burnout Crash so often through various ratings boards that it came as a bit of a surprise that EA and Criterion Games waited so long to announce the downloadable racing title. Today however they broke their silence and have officially announced that Burnout Crash! will be released on the XBLA and PSN in the Fall of this year.

The game will be a top-down racer and will be based off of other Burnout games’ Crash mode which will reward the player for “causing traffic chaos by crashing into cars, triggering explosions and destroying everything in sight” which makes it sound like everything a Burnout fan would love. Those who purchase the title on the XBLA will also have the ability to play the game with either their controller or with their Kinect to control the action. No price has been announced at the time for the title, though you can catch a teaser below.

Nyko’s Kinect zoom releasing August 23rd; Microsoft warns against it

You may not have a very large living room, but still want to own a Kinect. Then you are in luck, maybe. Nyko announced recently that they will be bringing their Zoom peripheral for the Kinect out on August 23rd and it will only cost $29.99. The Nyko Zoom peripheral is said to allow players to use up to “40% less space” to play their favorite Kinect titles.

Now Microsoft has come out to rain on Nyko’s parade a little bit because they think that the peripheral will hurt their little peripheral. A spokesperson came out today to say to CVG that the “Kinect has been tested for performance, accuracy and environmental conditions thoroughly. Any modification can impact the overall performance of Kinect.”

Could it make the Kinect a bit less accurate than it can be at times? During E3 it seemed to perform well enough for those in attendance, including myself. So whether or not this is Microsoft forewarning those about a faulty product, or just making sure they won’t be the target of any backlash in the future is currently unseen.

Civilization World launched on Facebook

If you work in an office on a computer, you may want to just hand in your resignation to your boss right now because your productivity is probably going to drop to a crawl. The reason for this is because Civilization is now on Facebook in the form of Civilization World. Just like any good Facebook game, it is entirely free to play but you can also purchase extra things of course.

Sid Meier chimed in about his latest time eating creation saying “Our team set out to create an exciting Civilization game for Facebook where for the first time, players can join with their friends to build a powerful empire and rule the world. Civilization World is a fun and engaging game that both fans of the series and fans of Facebook games will find immediately addictive, and we look forward to adding to the experience as the game continues to evolve in this dynamic new gaming world.”

Addictive and Facebook go right alongside one another, just ask the very rich Zynga at the moment how well you can profit off of people’s addictive natures. You can add the Facebook app into your list of games to play and waste time here.

Halo Anniversary soundtrack being handled by Skywalker Symphony

There are many things that can be said about the first Halo, and one of them is that the game had an amazing soundtrack for its time. Now 343 Industries, Microsoft and Pyramind have announced that they will all be working together to provide the Halo Anniversary an even better soundtrack than before. Microsoft Senior Audio Director Krstofor Mellroth and Pyramind Studios Audio Director Paul Lipson will be heading the project.

The team will be using the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra as well as the Grammy Award winning San Francisco based vocal group named Chanticleer to perform the music for Halo Anniversary. Kristofor Mellroth had this to say about the collaboration between the groups and the project itself: “This wasn’t just a simple remaster, it was a completely new orchestration and recording using renowned talent and top live players. We are striving to create the ultimate love letter to Halo fans, and celebrate Marty O’Donnell’s and Michael Salvatori’s original vision with grace and style.”

Arkane Studios Reveal new first-person Action game: “Dishonored”

Bethesda have been publishing quite a few titles as of late, and judging by this latest news, that doesn’t look to change anytime soon. Today, Arkane Studios and Bethesda announced “Dishonored”, which will be a first-person action game and the first project for Arkane Studios since being acquired by ZeniMax in 2010.

Arkane Studios seem to be putting all their chips on the table for Dishonored, as it is under the direction of co-creative directors, Raphael Colantonio, lead designer on Arx Fatalis, and Harvey Smith, lead designer on Deus Ex. As of now though, a very empty official website (which can found at this link) is all we have at the moment as for as information goes, but the studio have confirmed more news will be released in the upcoming July issue of Game Informer and will also appear on the website in due time. Dishonored is set to release sometime in 2012 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Games for Windows. Stay tuned, as we will be sure to bring you more about Dishonored as soon as we hear it!

Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked Due out this November…

Did you know that there is going to be a new Alvin & The Chipmunks movie out on December 16th? I honestly can’t say I did, but like the other two Alvin movies, a videogame tie-in will also be released alongside a month prior in November and will be available for the Xbox 360 Kinect, baring the same title, “Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked”. This new Alvin game will let players sing and dance alongside Alvin, Simon, and Theodore as well as their female friends, the Chipettes.

While this may sound like standard fare for a Kinect Dance title, Chipwrecked will allow players to sing, and then play back the audio in a much higher “Alvin-ized” version, a concept that we have never seen done with the device as of yet and certainly fitting for the characters involved. Full body tracking will also be involved due to the Kinect camera, allowing for players to match the Chipmunks dance moves as they sing along.

Majesco, who are publishing the movie tie-in released this comment today along with a synopsis of what we can expect from the actual movie and videogame:

“The Alvin brand has proven to be evergreen with universal awareness and growing appeal,” said Jesse Sutton, CEO Majesco Entertainment. “The extensive customization and combination of dancing and singing to contagious Chipmunk music will deliver a full-featured experience based on the upcoming movie that the whole family can enjoy together.”

The forthcoming Alvin and the Chipmunks movie finds the trio vacationing aboard a luxury cruise liner, turning it into their personal playground, until they become ‘chipwrecked’ on a remote island. The Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked video game continues the story with an around-the-world journey that has The Chipmunks visiting six tropical locations inspired by the movie. Hear your voice “Alvin-ized” when you sing along with the game and unleash your “Munk Power” to perform ultra-cool dance moves.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked will be coming this November for the Xbox 360 Kinect and will also see releases on the Nintendo DS & Wii.
