These BurgerTime World Tour Screens are hot off the Grill!

Konami and MonkeyPaw Games have been rather quiet since E3 concerning the upcoming BurgerTime World Tour, which is set to revive the classic with brand new art and gameplay styles in a shiny HD format. Thankfully, Konami brought a nice batch of screenshots for the game to Gamescom, and while we still don’t have an official release date, these screens are pretty meaty (quite literally) and introduce us to the many foods that could be the death of Peter Pepper.

With enemies baring names such “Habba De Niro” and “Frank Furter”, this re-imagining looks to be bringing quite a charming update to the Data East Classic, and hopefully BurgerTime World Tour will live up to it’s predecessors when it is finally released a bit later this year for the WiiWare, PSN, XBLA, and PC. For now though, get a good glance at the 30 new screenshots down below.

New Goldeneye: Reloaded Trailer introduces us to MI6 Ops Mode…

Activision brought quite a few titles to show off at Gamescom, but the one that caught my attention was Goldeneye: Reloaded, which is set to launch for the Xbox 360 and PS3 this fall. As many of you know, this release is to be a lot like the Wii version, but with “refined” graphics and a few extras. One of those extras in this “Reloaded” version is the MI6 Ops Mode. In this single player mode, players will have to complete a various set of missions across many familiar locales that include the likes of Assault, Elimination, Stealth and Defense objectives.

To show how this mode will actually work, Activision debuted a new trailer at Gamescom, showing Bond defending checkpoints and using stealth to take out all the surrounding enemies. You can watch the new trailer for yourself below and make sure you crank up the volume, as the trademark tune blares throughout the clip to provide a bit of nostalgia to those of us who grew up on the original.

Kirby’s Mass Attack & Return To Dreamland Dated for Europe…

Everybody’s favorite pink fluff has quite a busy year ahead of him, with Kirby’s Mass Attack set to launch on the Nintendo DS and Kirby: Return to Dreamland headed to the Nintendo Wii. Now the first thing we should clear up is the whole name situation with the Nintendo Wii Kirby title, that was reportedly called “Kirby: Return to Dreamland” at Comic-con by a Nintendo representative. While this name may indeed be the North American title, Nintendo of Europe are labeling this game Kirby’s Adventure Wii.

Nintendo of Europe have also given dates to both as of today, with Kirby set to make his fourth appearance on the Nintendo DS with Kirby Mass Attack on October 28th, and Kirby’s Adventure Wii launching in “December 2011”, with no specific day listed as of yet. I will say North America usually get Kirby titles a couple months in advance, as they did with Epic Yarn, so hopefully Nintendo of America will give us something more official soon enough in that area. Either way though, it is a great year to be a Kirby fan, so pardon me while I fanboy out a bit at the thought of being just months away from both of these titles.

Mass Effect 3 Femshep Votes Round Two

Mass Effect fans, it is time for the second round of voting for the female version of Commander Shepard featured in Mass Effect 3. As we’ve previosuly noticed, the longer-haired FemShep had one the first phase of voting; so that makes this round about the colour of her hair.

So make sure you have your say in the votes by liking the photo of your favorite edition of the female Commander Shepard. For those of you who don’t know much about these contests, they are held on the official facebook page for Mass Effect 3, linked below.

Here at Capsule Computers, we’re in love with the red-haired version and would love to hear about which you think is the best looking. So let us know in the comments below.

Persson Challenges Bethesda To Quake III

0

Usually when there is a trademark dispute, the two parties go to court and a judge determines the outcome. That will be no exception when it comes to Bethesda and the creator of Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson. They are currently embroiled over the use of the word “Scrolls” in a game being developed my Mojang Studios, which was founded by Persson. However, Persson believes that there should be another way to settle it.

A Quake III deathmatch.

“I am serious, by the way,” the Minecraft creator said by way of coda.

The premise is simple. Persson suggested that three players represent both side in a 20 minute deathmatch over two levels, both chosen by the two parties. If Mojang is victorious, then Bethesda drops the lawsuit and it would send a message to them that trying to own a word is not a good idea. It Bethesda prevails, then the game “Scrolls” will be renamed into “something you’re [Bethesda] fine with.”

It is an interesting idea, but is it the right idea? Shout out below, we would like to know the opinion of our audience.

New WWE ’12 Video Showcasing Predator Technology

A must watch for all fans eagerly awaiting the release of WWE ’12 game. The video shows some comparisons between Smackdown vs. Raw 2011 and game-play from WWE ’12, and boy does it look better.

The moves do look a lot more smooth than previous games and you have to love the ability for Rey to hit the 619 followed by a moonsault all the while Cena is doing his jig for the five knuckle shuffle. I have been very skeptical about the game so far but this video has definitely swayed me towards believing that this actually could finally be the game that WWE fans have been waiting for.

Check it out for yourself below.

Skyrim to use Steamworks for PC version

PC gamers can be a bit of a fickle bunch. With EA’s Origin service many people grew angry over EA’s departure from Steam, and any game that is announced to use Game for Windows Live is instantly met with a sigh due to the horrible service that Games for Windows LIVE is. Well my friends, you can take that sigh away because although the game is being published under the Game for Windows logo, it won’t use the Live service.

This news comes from PC Gamer after a short conversation with Bethesda’s vice president of PR Pete Hines. This fact was then later confirmed on the game’s official twitter account saying “We can confirm today that we’re using Steamworks for Skyrim.” Thanks to this news, PC gamers can breath a little easier by being able to avoid one of their most hated services.

Four More Legends Unveiled for NHL ’12

EA have released two more legend reveal trailers revealing four of the nine legends. There are now only two more legends remaining as we close in on the final lap of the ice before NHL 2012 is released on September 8th.

The first of the two videos showed Detroit legend Steve Yzerman and Swedish sensation Börje Salming take their place on the legend lineup. Today both Jeremy “JR” Roenick and legendary goal-tender Patrick Roy were added to the list.

We’ll let you know the final two legends as soon as we do, for now you can watch the videos!

Legend of Zelda: Four Swords will be free on 3DS eShop in September

Way back at E3, Nintendo was able to make a few friends with those in attendance and viewers around the world when they announced that they would be providing the four player The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords to the Nintendo 3DS eShop entirely free. This excitement dissipated slightly shortly after the announcement when it was revealed that the GBA version of the title is the one being provided and does not include online play.

Despite this news, Nintendo hasn’t been fazed in the slightest and is still bringing The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords to the 3DS entirely free. Eurogamer received information from Nintendo saying that this free game will soon be available to all 3DS owners very soon. Sometime in September to be exact, though a specific date as not mentioned.

Dedicated Handhelds Will Not Die!

I need to get something off my chest. This should be read by all of the developers who believe that dedicated handhelds have met their end and the future of portable gaming lies solely with tablets and smartphones, or more specifically, the Apple range of tablets and smartphones. To those naysayers, I have four words for you: You have it wrong.

Crytek Managing Director Cervat Yerli has really stirred me up through comments made on GamesIndustry.biz. In short, this is what he had to say:

“While it’s a nice achievement from Sony in the first step, it’s not something we would take into consideration in the short term.”

“I can see that the multifunctions that devices like tablets offer is a big advantage of them. And I think people want one mobile device that can do multiple things.”

“Considering this, I think those handhelds are lacking in that area and they are losing ground, actually. I think they have to be more innovative.”

This seems to be the general consensus with handheld development as of late. Because of the move towards smartphones and tablets, game developers want a piece of the market. I have no issue against that. In fact, there are possibilities with that corner of development. However, I am sick of developers who haven’t touch a dedicated handheld, let alone develop one; proclaim doomsday on a section of the market because everyone jumps onto the Apple bandwagon.

I am studying game design at university and from what I have learnt is that the player is not your enemy/opponent because they are the one who will buy the games. The players in this instance are the ones who are constantly playing the latest blockbusters, reading the magazines or searching online for the latest news. Granted that type of gamer might also enjoy the iPhone or iPad game, but my point is that dedicated gamers won’t jump to the site if a $2 game. For one, there are no physical controls on the tablets and smartphones. That is the most common complaint with gaming on tablets and smartphones.

The handhelds deliver something more than a game. They deliver an experience that can not compare to something on the iPhone. They can create console-like experiences and we can take them on the go.

I’ll talk about the Playstation Vita since it is the example Yerli used. Now, the reason he thinks the handhelds are “losing ground” is because of a lack of multifunctions. Umm… he hasn’t been watching Sony since the announcement earlier this year. Let see what the Playstation Vita sports outside of games:

• Photo capabilities, including taking them and video recording
• Music capabilities
• Facebook
• Twitter
• Skype
• Foursquare
• Near
• Party
• Interaction with Playstation 3
• Augmented Reality for non-gaming
• 3G capabilities
• Other unannounced features (if there are anymore, which will be announced)

I think the Vita might be more than a one trick pony. In fact, it seems that Vita is really a miniature tablet with a selection of console-like games.

Then he believes that the handhelds are not “innovative” enough. Okay, he is talking about the Vita, right? I mean all of the big tablets sport rear touchpads, right? They don’t. Well… what about 3D just like the 3DS? Wait, only one? Only one smartphone, the LG Optimus 3D, actually sports the feature. No Apple products implement this, despite re-releasing a model every year with little improvement? What about a dual screen platform which made the DS popular? No. Hmm…

What about cost? I’m not talking about the games but the platforms themselves. Smartphones and tablets have a monthly cost through a network. They can be up to $60/$70 per month for a year or two years. Now, let’s look at the Vita and 3DS. They are a one off cost with no monthly fees (unless you do purchase the Vita with 3G).

Alright I think I need to wrap this up. This is another example of the poor attitude towards the dedicated gaming handhelds. Developers really need to stop this doom and gloom outlook and actually embrace them. I have just debunked comments about the lack of multifunction and innovation. Vita and 3DS are more than just gaming devices and they are introducing new experiences through a second touchpad and the use of stereoscopic 3D respectively. They provide hours of entertainment and are not timewasters to play on the bus or train. Please, before you decide that tablets and smartphones are the future, try and develop for the handhelds. You might actually like it.
