Tecmo Koei purchases Atelier series developer Gust

In a bit of surprising news, it was revealed today by Tecmo Koei that they are planning on purchasing Atelier and Ar Tonelico series developer Gust through the acquisition of their stocks. This means that Tecmo is going to be purchasing all 495 shares of Gust for ¥22 billion or $28.3 million American. The reason noted for Tecmo Koei’s acquisition of Gust has to do with the popularity of the Atelier series as a whole.

Before this purchase, Tecmo Koei has worked along with Gust to help distribute their games in Japan and even in Europe. At the time however, nearly all Gust titles are distributed and localized by NIS America for North American distribution. So it is currently unclear on how this will affect the relationship between the two companies.

Might And Delight presents Pid

Founded by the producers of hit games like Mirror’s Edge, Battlefield, and Killzone, Might & Delight is pleased to announce Pid will be released in 2012 for consoles and PC.

Pid offers an unique resemblance to platform games like Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee. At first glance the world of Pid seems to be a bit depressing given the darker artwork. That and in some scenes you see the locals sitting on a couch next to a street light. Pid proves to be quite an odd piece in its appearance, and I hope that its uniqueness is carried through into the storyline.

The platformer will involve players using abilities for bending gravity, puzzle-solving, and defeating screen filling bosses. The mechanics look fun to use especially the ability to bend gravity. The classic feel should fall in with enemy avoidance and object manipulation.

Can the protagonist outwit the local robots and stop the tyranny of Pid’s ruler? Will he ever get to go back home? Check out the trailer below to catch a glimpse of the gameplay and the dark theme of Pid.

Nine-Tailed Fox in League of Legends

For those of us used to hearing about the legend of the Nine-Tails in Naruto, this may come as a surprise as Riot has announced the mechanics of Ahri the Nine-Tailed Fox. There has been much anticipation for this champion just because of the name. Let’s discover the details behind the hype.

The game mechanics for Ahri deal with high mobility and spell accuracy. By attempting to get closer to the enemy, she will be able to do a higher burst of magical damage. However, as Ahri moves further away her spells become less effective. The Nine Tails Fox’s ultimate provides Ahri the ability to dash multiple times. This will require timing as well as strategy in order to fool, damage, or escape from opponents. In addition to the high mobility, she will be able to lock down opponents with her Seduction technique. Is this the time to mention that she is a very attractive Nine Tails?

For any that likes a lot of action, Ahri just might be the one for you. With high mobility and close range burst damage, this could be a really unique champion to play. Look at the Legend of Legends Official Website for more information on the Nine-Tailed Fox.

An All New Bejeweled and Bejeweled Blitz Hit iPhone and iPod Touch

PopCap announced today the launch of an all-new Bejeweled for iPod Touch and iPhone, as well as a brand new freemium version of Bejeweled Blitz for those devices.

The re-release of Bejeweled signals the retirement of the Bejeweled 2 from the App Store, though the new version will cost an additional 99 cents (US). It will include much-improved high definition graphics which support Retina Display, the Zen and Diamond Mine modes from Bejeweled 3, leaderboards, and achievement badges. In addition, PopCap promises to continuously update this version of Bejweled with new modes, content, and features.

The free-to-play Bejeweled Blitz will include the original 60-second gem-matching mode from the Bejeweled games, as well as an updated user interface, a tutorial system, and a Daily Spin feature where players try their luck to get bonus coins.

The Bejeweled franchise has sold over 40 million copies worldwide; the only puzzle game more succesful is Tetris. To this count, Giordano Bruno Contestabile, the Bejeweled franchise business director at PopCap commented:

As we strive to reach virtually everyone with a mobile communications device, PopCap will continue to make games that are even more accessible to that ever-expanding global audience. We’re taking a critical step toward this goal with the introduction of these new Bejeweled titles that will enhance our offerings on the iPhone for years to come.

Both games are available on the App Store right now.

Spike Teases The Reveal For The Last Of Us

It must be time to hype up another reveal for the Playstation 3 as Spike is getting everyone excited for the next Playstation 3 exclusive. Teased in the short video ‘The Last of Us’, VGA producer Geoff Keighley tells the viewer of this promo that this Playstation 3 exclusive is a “massive announcement that no one is going to see coming” and it is going to be taken care of by an “amazing developer.” He also expresses shock that this game has not been leaked to the public. There is still time, Mr. Keighley.

He also reveals that it is a proper trailer, not a teaser. That means we should expect the introduction to the characters, basic plotline and setting (although the teaser would have already revealed that… sort of). Whatever it is, it has been in developed for a while and may be related to some sort of fungus, according to Playstation Lifestyle.

Here Is A Video Of The Nico Nico Douga Vita App

Nico Nico Douga is considered Japan’s answer to Youtube. It is a video streaming site with similar features. The popular site will have an app available for Playstation Vita owners. This will allow Playstation Vita owners watch videos on the site and also post comments. In a 2012 update, one can expect the ability to stream their own gameplay live. Pretty cool, huh. It will be available on the Japanese Playstation Store at launch. Best of all, it is absolutely free to download.

Now, I hope Sony Computer Entertainment America and Europe are bust negotiating with Google to allow a similar app for Youtube to grace the Playstation Vita. Similar features that will be on the Nico Nico Douga app, include live game streaming, is a must for this possible Youtube app. Of course, it would also have to be free to download and access. Or maybe just bring the Nico Nico Douga app overseas, since the 2012 update is a worldwide one.

New Bioshock Infinite Trailer To Debut At VGA

With Bioshock Infinite being readied for its 2012 release, Irrational Games and 2K Games are going to show the game off some more at this years Video Game Awards. While the award show is panned and criticised, it does allow big developers and publishers to show off upcoming games. The Last of Us teaser that was released is expected to be revealed and expanded on.

So, what can we expect from this Bioshock trailer? I expect more gameplay footage and a little bit more of an insight with the relationship between Booker and Elizabeth. that screenshot is meant to be a sneak peak at the trailer. What does it tell us? A possible concrete release date, perhaps? One can dream. All I know is that it will be released for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC some time in 2012 and it is currently in the hands of Australians.

By the way, Bioshock Infinite is in the running for Most Anticipated Game of 2012 at the Video Game Awards.

PES 2012 To Receive Update

Pro Evolution Soccer 2012 is receiving an update to some of the gameplay. Included in this update are further improvements to goal keeper AI, making small tweaks to outfield play and introducing searches for online pairings for players using the same level of pass support. How did Konami decide that this is what they should improve on with this latest update? These changes are being implemented following feedback from the PES community.

The update is only coming to the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, so everyone else will miss out. All versions of the game are now available to purchase. Check out Capsule Computers review for the console version and the PSP version to see what we think of the game.

The Sims 3 Showtime Expansion is more social than ever

In the spirit of all that is social, The Sims 3 Showtime has been announced as being in development and is slated for release next year in March. This latest expansion pack allows you to do all your usual Sim business, but this time you get to also share your experiences with your friends or other Sims players.

In a brand new way to connect and share players can actually send their Sims into other friend’s games to perform as singers, acrobats, magicians or DJs in their friend’s world. Players can also post their Sims’ successes, share gameplay techniques (and funny things you do with your Sims), create wishlists and send gifts. There are in-game news feeds, so you can keep people up to date with what your Sim is up to. Did they just get married? Have a baby? Become the town bike? Well, you can share all that and more!

The game specifically targets the journey of your Sim from being a struggling artist to being able to perform in stadium venues, so you better get your Sims guitar ready, because before long they’ll be rocking out in front of a screaming audience.

For more info on the game visit their site or keep it tuned to Capsule Computers!
