Double Fine Earns Budget in 8 Hours

I told you Tim Schafer was God.

Well, maybe not in those exact words, but the sentiment was definitely implied yesterday while I was urging you all to donate on Kickstarter for Double Fine’s new adventure game project.

The studio had set a target of $400,000, which, if reached by the 13th of March, would fund their game publisher-free.

That goal was exceeded after eight hours. At the time of writing, the budget, entirely donated by fans, stands at over $1.1m.

The donations are still pouring in, and presumably will continue to do so until the cutoff date. $400,000 was the base line, but any additional funds will only improve the production value of the final product. Which by now is destined to be amazing.

Schafer has shown a lot of gratitude to his fans and backers, and is keen to see where the project might go from here.

“We’re getting a lot of attention already and it seems like this little project could have an impact beyond itself,” he wrote. It certainly will be fascinating to see if this sets a new precedent for smaller, creative indie game projects that publishers can’t risk backing.

So get over there and donate anyway. Or donate again. $15 will get you a copy of the game in about October, when they expect it to be finished, plus an inside look at the entire development process.

If you don’t, the almighty Tim Schafer will smite you. Or, ask you nicely.

New One Piece: Pirate Warriors Details and Screenshots

Namco Bandai have released some new information and screenshots for one of the biggest anime games of the year, One Piece: Pirate Warriors.

The screenshots which can be seen below show off various playable characters (mostly the Straw Hat Pirates) showing their skills in combat against various enemies.

As for the new details revealed, Namco Bandai has given some information away regarding the games Story Mode also known as ‘Main Log’.

The game is set to feature three different Story Mode types; ‘Adventure’ which resembles a platforming style adventure game, with Luffy using his Gum-Gum abilities to traverse the world, ‘Musou’ which is a Dynasty Warriors style game mode, focusing mainly on battling and finally ‘Another Log’ which focuses on the stories of other characters instead of Luffy giving another perspective on the world of One Piece.

Sega Release launch trailer for Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games

Ready, Set. GO! And they’re off! After a few months of waiting, Mario and Sonic are ready to make their joint debut in Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games within the next week, and Sega are ready to celebrate with  a new launch trailer to show us what will be in store for all who plan on snagging up the 3DS version. As you may have guessed, this title will put characters from both series into several of the events that were made famous in the world famous Olympic Games.

While this version seems like the Wii predecessor, the gameplay is completely different with players having to tap their screens, use the d-pad, blow to swim, run, and perform other activities. Of course this game will have the third dimension presentation as well, but that seems to be just a light add-on in comparison to the vast amount of content packed inside. Check out the new trailer below, and you can pick up  Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games when it comes out on February 14th.

Catch 15 minutes of Gravity Rush in-game footage

While those of us in North America will still have to wait a week or two to play the amazing looking Gravity Rush, the game was just released yesterday in Japan. Japanese website 4Gamer has decided to ramp up the excitement for the title, and tease those who can’t play it yet, with 15 long minutes of gameplay footage from the title.

Now the game itself is in Japanese, but this is an excellent time to see the game in action for those curious about whether or not they should pick it up in the next few weeks. Catch the video below and watch Kat defeat multiple enemies with her gravity controlling powers and powerful kicks.

More details emerge for Fire Emblem: Awakening

You may remember that a Fire Emblem title is being developed for the Nintendo 3DS. However at that time, we knew very little about the game. Now we know just a little bit more thanks to Jump Magazine. Fire Emblem: Awakening is first set to be released on April 19th in Japan and here is a brief glimpse of what the story will entail.

“Two sleeping dragons – one a sacred ally of mankind, the other its sworn destroyer. Two heroes marked with the symbols of the dragons. Their meeting heralds the dragons’ awakening – and the world’s ending.”

The main character is named Crom, Prince of the Iris Kingdom. He will wield a Falchion as a weapon, while the other main character is a character that the player will create as themselves. Players will be able to choose a gender, weapon type and various other customization options to create their own fighting unit. Very interesting… now we just need to see this title released overseas in North America and it will be even better.

Sentai announce English dub for Gintama: The Movie

In a shocking and puzzling twist, Sentai Filmworks has confirmed an English dub for Gintama: The Movie. This announcement has left many fans puzzled but also delighted at the idea of hearing their favourite Gintama characters speaking English.

The reason for confusion of the series fans is the fact that Sentai’s release of the anime series itself was subtitled only. However, due to one of Sentai’s policies regarding Blu-Ray releases (all Blu-Ray releases must feature an English dub), the film will mark the first time fans will hear Gintoki and friends speak English.

Sentai plan to release Gintama: The Movie through multiple mediums, specifically digitally and on DVD and Blu-Ray later this year.

Learn about the weapons of Twisted Metal in latest trailer

Despite the bad news that has been coming out of Eat Sleep Play over the past few days, Twisted Metal is still set to be released in less than a week now in North America and Sony Computer Entertainment America isn’t about to let us forget that fact. Today they have released a trailer that demonstrates the weapons you’ll be using to blow apart other drivers.
