Tomba! Tombi! Whatever you call it, it’s Coming to PSN!

Tomba! or Tombi! as it was known in PAL regions, is one of the games that my childhood revolved around. A side scrolling 2D platformer with a few 3D elements, the game was one of the many playable demos to be found on the Demo One disc that shipped with PlayStation consoles.

I played that demo a million times. But the actual game upon release sold poorly, and I never managed to get my hands on a full copy of the game until a decade later, when I scooped it off Ebay – happily paying more than the standard price for a brand new retail game at the time. And why was that? Because this game is an absolute gem. Starring a pink haired, six packed boy called Tombi, this colourful, slightly barmy adventure saw players tracking down the Seven Evil Pigs in order to recover a golden bracelet, and generally save the world.

It has personality, charm, and features a lead protagonist that defeats enemies by clamping onto the back of them with his teeth. You can collect different colours of tight fitting pants, rescue puppies, collect butterflies and then capture pigs in magic sacks. The soundtrack is catchy and lively, and gameplay often provides a tricky challenge, with plenty of sidequests to bolster up the main story. It is one of my favourite games ever, and here’s hoping the sequel manages to follow the original, because I still haven’t managed to get my hands on that one!

The game has just seen a release on the PlayStation Network thanks to Monkey Paw Games, whom I would be handing my money to right now if it was available in Australia….patience…patience child…

DOOM 3 BFG Edition release date revealed

Horror fans will be glad to hear that the newly revamped DOOM 3 BFG Edition now has a solid release date. The re-release of the “re-mastered” DOOM 3 includes the “Resurrection of Evil” DLC as well as some new content currently being called “The Lost Mission” and it will be available on October 16 in North America and October 19 in Europe.

For those who are curious about how much this little package will cost, it will run you $39.99 on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 while the PC version will run you only $29.99. Besides including the upgraded version of DOOM 3 the title will also include both DOOM 1 and DOOM 2, allowing you to get a little bit more bang for your buck.

Achievements may bring more rewards this Fall

Have you ever wished that your Gamerscore from all of those Achievements you’ve earned actually translated into something rather than a way to laud your superior gaming prowess over your friends? Well it seems that gamers will soon be rewarded with more than just an increased score by earning Achievements this Fall.

Xbox Live Rewards themselves placed a tweet earlier today saying: “We’ve hit 50,000 followers, which means it’s time for an announcement! Coming Fall: a new way to earn Rewards based on your Achievements!” so what could these rewards be? Most likely Microsoft Points which would be just fine as it gives active gamers a chance to pick up even more games.

Seth Killian to leave Capcom on June 22nd

Some unfortunate news has come out of Capcom Unity today as Capcom USA’s strategic marketing director of online and community Seth Killian revealed today that he is going to be leaving Capcom on Friday June 22nd for currently unknown reasons. This is a rather sudden departure for Seth who has become one of the main faces of Capcom over the past few years.

In his farewell blog he stated that “Capcom has been a dream for me,” whereas he went on to thank many members of Capcom including Yoshinori Ono. Killian did not explain where he will be going to next, instead he simply wrote that he has “chosen a new path which will let me embrace a new dream.” Whether this means we will still see him in the video game world is still uncertain.

Anarchy Reigns is fully developed and ready to ship despite Sega’s Q1 2013 delay

Yesterday Sega revealed that, for some unknown reason, Anarchy Reigns was delayed all the way until early 2013. While this was a surprise to us gamers, it also happened to be a surprise for the developers of the game, Platinum Games. Producer Atsushi Inaba responded to fans today in utter surprise and explained everything he knew.

He began with saying that the company is ” done with all international versions of Anarchy Reigns. The delay is not due to further development of the game.” and even explained that “today’s Q1 2013 release news was the first we’d heard of it.” The region free Japanese release, with full English voice work and subtitles, will still be released on July 5th and is prime for importing for those who don’t want to wait half a year for a complete game. As for Sega in America? They have remained silent about the reason for their asinine delay of a finished title.

Konami Releases Puzzle Chasers to Facebook

Puzzle fans should be glad to hear that the Puzzle Chasers game from Konami has finally reached Facebook.  The game features not only jigsaw puzzle goodness, but an actual adventure story line that unlocks a new chapter by the puzzles that the player can solve.  The story holds not only adventure, but mystery and romance for the games characters Roxy, Blake, and a monkey named Austin.

Play is simple enough that by selecting an empty space in the jigsaw grid, players will be given several pieces to choose from to correctly fit in the spot.  But, don’t worry that it sounds so trivial as the difficulty ramps up with alter puzzles.  In terms of replayability, past puzzles can be replayed with the pieces randomized, as well as a Blitz Mode, that is set to get new puzzles weekly.

Players can find Puzzle Chasers on Facebook HERE.

New Napoleon:Total War DLC Released

Creative Assembly has caught a lot of people out today, by out of the blue releasing two news DLC packs on steam, this following its successful free weekend. Napoleon: Total War still has a large community on Steam, with it remaining high on the Steam most played leaderboards even with Total War:Shogun 2 having been released for over a year.

The two packs are:

The Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars which contains 10 units that were only previously available as part of the Imperial Edition, these include the veteran cavalrymen of the 15th British Hussars, the close-combat specialists of the 1st East Prussian Grenadier Battalion, and the deadly Moscow Musketeers, capable of unleashing massed volleys of fire before performing devastating bayonet charges.

The Imperial Eagle Pack contains 11 units that were only previously available in the original box launch of the game or as preorder incentives. Some of the units you can control include  the Grand Battery of The Convention, and Great Britain’s HMS Elephant: a ship-of-the-line capable of “thunderous” broadsides. Also included are two brand-new units: Austria’s heavily-armoured Archduke Ferdinand Cuirassiers, and Russia’s elite Lifeguard Cossacks.

Heroes of the Napoleonic Wars and the Imperial Eagle Pack are both now available on Steam, priced at GBP £1.99 / USD $3.25 / EUR €1.99 / AUD $3.95.
