BlazBlue 3rd Anniversary Contests Continue

To continue in the celebration of the 3rd anniversary of BlazBlue’s US release, Aksys Games have announced a further two contests which are live right now.

One is titled “Caption the Blue”, and requires an entrant to write one set of captions for a pre-determined image. That image can be found on the contest page here. The prize is a rare BlazBlue Jin Kisaragi “Dakimakura” pillow cover. So if you’re a fan, visit that page and enter for a chance to win! The second, and final new contest, is called “All Eyes on the Azure” and requires an entrant to simply spread the good word on the Northeast Championships XIII, based in Philadelphia, PA, which will feature a BlazBlue tournament, via Twitter. The prize is a one-of-a-kind signed concept artwork from the Arc System Works staff! Details can be found on its contest page here.

Also, as a reminder, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift EXTEND is available at a cheaper price-point than the original’s RRP, and considering it comes with a myriad of additional features, all of the Continuum Shift DLC characters as well as Relius Clover, it’d definitely value for money. For more information on EXTEND and where to buy it, visit the official Aksys Games website.

Sony Announces PlayStation Plus December Line-Up

Sony Australia has announced what members of PlayStation Plus can look forward to for the month of December, starting on the 5th.  The biggest title becoming available for members to play should be pretty apparent from the image above, but to avoid any confusion we’ll go ahead and say that it’s Batman: Arkham City.  Other titles joining Batman include third person shooter Vanquish and indie black-and-white puzzler LIMBO.

December will also see shooters Bulletstorm and Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition remaining a part of the PS Plus Instant Game Collection.  But it doesn’t stop there either as now that PS Plus extends to the PS Vita, members with the portable will get access to Knytt Underground.

The subscription for PS Plus, which includes both PS3 and PS Vita, in Australia for one year is AUD$69.95 or alternatively AUD$19.95 for 90 days at a time.  Though Sony fans wishing to try PS Plus out can get a 30 day trial from the PlayStation Australia Facebook HERE and be able to check out December’s line-up.

Nintendo holding Wii U Launch Events in Australia

The day has come Aussies and the Wii U is just mere hours away from releasing. To celebrate, Nintendo have set up launch parties in Australia, where you can come out, grab a console, and partake in the activities.
As you might guess, there is sure to be quite a crowd as well as active Wii U’s to play, so if you pre-ordered or just want to see what the fuss is about, head on out to one of the locations in the invitation down below.

Virtue’s Last Reward sees Australian and New Zealand Release

Following the success of Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors, Rising Star Games has released Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward to Australia and New Zealand.

Rising Star Games took a risk by localising Virtue’s Last Reward’s predecessor to America, but fortunately it was met with great success. Now the crime and text-based adventure game can be experienced outside of the US, with the Australian and New Zealand release coming today, soon after the UK release.

The game features 3D rendering for the 3DS, multiple endings and an array of plot twists and engaging story, all of which were praised by critics. Virtue’s Last Reward is also available for Playstation Vita.

Ratchet & Clank: QForce available now in Australia

Today gamers all throughout Australia can run out to the store and pick up Insomniac Games’ latest Ratchet & Clank game, Ratchet & Clank: QForce. It is worth noting that QForce is the same game as Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault which was released yesterday in North America.

Ratchet & Clank: QForce will cost $24.95 AUD and will also come with a code that will allow you to download the PlayStation Vita version of the game for free. Unfortunately thanks to a last minute delay, the Vita version will not be available until sometime in January 2013. Check out the trailer below for some footage of Ratchet & Clank: QForce in action.

Second half of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s “Black Shroud” alpha footage released

You may remember that last week Square Enix released some alpha gameplay footage of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn which showed off various areas in the “Black Shroud” section of the game. Well today the company released the second half of the video as well as some new screenshots of the area, both of which can be seen below.

As you can see, the footage still covers the aesthetic improvements of the game as we are shown the lush forest of the Black Shroud as well as a rope bridge that passes a gorgeous waterfall. As always it is worth noting that this is alpha footage and things may be changed by the time A Realm Reborn is released to the public.

Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 to be unleashed in February

If you’ve been dying to absolutely destroy your enemies in the next game in Tecmo Koei’s Fist of the North Star video game series then you’ll be happy to hear that the company now has a release date for the game in North America.

The title will hit stores in North America on February 5th as a retail release on the Xbox 360 and as a digital download on the PlayStation 3. It is also worth noting that Tecmo Koei has announced a Wii U version of the game as well, though the release date for that version is currently unknown.

As for Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2, it will feature over twenty characters from the Fist of the North Star series besides Kenshiro as well as a Legend Mode which will cover the entire manga storyline from the Roah Saga to the Land of Shura story arc. The game will also contain original story content which will be playable in the game’s “Dream Mode.”

A few months ago a couple members of our staff were able to test out Fist of the North Star: Ken’s Rage 2 at Tokyo Game Show and their impressions of the game can be seen here while some recorded gameplay footage can also be found in the below video.

Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires to be released digitally in North America

It looks like Bao Sanniang up there has some news for us and unfortunately for those of you who enjoy purchasing physical versions of games, it has to do with the release of Dynasty Warriors 7: Empires in North America.

The good part of the news is the fact that fans in North America will be able to purchase the title on February 19th, but unfortunately the only way they will be able to do so is through the PlayStation Network as Tecmo Koei is only releasing the game as a digital download in that region. It is worth noting that European countries are receiving a physical release of the game on February 22nd, so whichever version you acquire is up to you. Until then, you can check out some new screenshots of the game below.

Xbox Live News with Pipper – November 29, 2012

Welcome back boys and gals to another chapter to the “Xbox Live News with Pipper” universe. After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Xbox Live gamers shouldn’t be too surprised that the deals of the week are lacking once again. I empathize with all Xbox Live members as I too have become disheartened by the lagging skills displayed by those responsible for these deals. One of this week’s potential redeeming qualities is that Ubisoft will be holding a sale starting December 4th with *crossing fingers* some decent savings.

Showing more promise than our deals are the new releases for late November and early December. Skyrim: Dragonborn DLC should make for an interesting addition, and Mass Effect 3: Omega is already gaining positive views from the Xbox Live user base (see here).

In addition to the Deals of the Week, there are two Kinect offers as well as an Ubisoft Publisher sale to take part in. Kinect Central: Burnout Crash is available from November 27th to December 3rd at the affordable price of 400 MSP. Coming December 4th is the discounted price for Kinect Central: Dragon’s Lair at 400 MSP lasting till December 10th. Finally, the Ubisoft Publisher sale will occur in the same time frame of December 4th to December 10th but have varying prices on the titles. Stay tuned for more information concerning this sale on your Xbox dashboard!

I would like to personally thank everyone for tuning in again for another chapter of Xbox Live News with Pipper. The year draws a bit closer to a close, and your pockets are nearly empty from spending money on Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Might as well stack a few more games on that wretched piece of plastic, and always remember to “Play Hard or Don’t Play At All!”
