THQ assets to be sold whole unless outbid individually

THQ-logo-png

Today THQ confirmed reports that they would be moving forward with their bankruptcy proceedings and sent out a press release containing new information. Now it seems that the only time that the company’s assets (IPs and studios) will be sold individually is if the offered price is more than the whole buyout.

It has been said that Clearlake Capital Group offered THQ “$60 million, including a new $10 million note for the benefit of the company’s creditors.” This means that any company that wants to purchase individual properties from THQ will need to offer more than that deal. Of course, this also means that the very interested EA and Warner Bros. and other bidders could buy out all of THQ’s properties and studios, totaling over $60 million and shutting down THQ forever as their IPs continue elsewhere.

Bids are set to be made by January 22nd and the auction will be held at 3PM that day and closed out on January 24th.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows brings fear to the PSP next week

corpse-party-BOS-release- (1)

Ever since XSEED Games announced that they would be bringing the pseudo-sequel to Corpse Party, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, to North America back in October, information about their release has been non-existent. However that all changed today when not only did the company provide a new teaser trailer and a few new screenshots of the game, but also it’s price and release date.

Fans won’t have to wait much longer either, as Corpse Party: Book of Shadows will be released next week on January 15th for only $19.99 on the PSN. It is also worth noting that despite this being a PSP title, the game will also immediately be available for purchase on the PlayStation Vita as well.

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows tells a series of short stories that develops many of the characters that were introduced in the first game and also a number of “What if” scenarios. This means that players can change the fates of the first game’s characters, sometimes for the better or for the much worse.

It is also worth noting that Corpse Party: Book of Shadows features point and click adventure-style gameplay from a first-person perspective this time around rather than a top-down adventure. Plus, as the terror rises, the game’s visuals will begin to distort and you may even find some of your decisions altered thanks to the amount of fear running through the students’ minds. Don’t worry too much however, Corpse Party: Book of Shadows features the option to save whenever you want to, which may be essential given how a “Bad End” could be around any corner.

New Assassin’s Creed III DLC Revealed

Assassins-Creed-III-screenshot-01

Just announced by Ubisoft today, a second pack of extra content is being released for their critically acclaimed game Assassins’s Creed IIIIt will be a multiplayer based DLC which will add several new characters and maps including the Governor and Coyote Man and the maps of Charleston, St. Pierre, and several others.  This can be purchased separate or included in the Season Pass along with the games five other downloadable packs.  The cost will be more if purchased separate however as the Season Pass is priced to give a 25% savings by comparison. The season pass can be bought for £23.99 on the PSN for 2400 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live.

However, that’s not all Ubisoft has coming for the game as some new single player content has been announced as well entitled “The Tyranny of King Washington”, an episodic story told in three downloadable packs that tell of an alternate American timeline in the aftermath of the Revolutionary War.  George Washington, reveling in his victory, claims the throne of America which leads our hero to attempt to overthrow the dictator and claim the freedom that America fought for.  These DLC packs will be available for all current gen systems including the Wii U and PC gamers will have access to the Assassin’s Creed III deluxe edition as a digital download and will include all future downloadable content.  Further information can be found on the games official website at www.assassinscreed.com

Vividred Operation to be streamed on Crunchyroll

vividred-operation-02

Today it was revealed that Crunchyroll had acquired the streaming rights to the upcoming anime series Vividred Operation. The streams will be starting on Sunday at 10AM EST and will be available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, and South Africa.

This is some rather surprising news for many anime fans, thanks to the fact that considering the anime is being headed by Kazuhiro Takamura, the man behind Strike Witches, both seasons of which have been licensed and released in English by FUNimation. Though of course, a licensing announcement could still be made sometime in the next few weeks or in the future.

For now, the story of Vividred Operation follows a girl named Akane who lives in a world that has eliminated the energy crisis by creating something called the “Manifestation Engine.” However when an alien threat appears to destroy the world, Akane and a number of other girls must fight against them.

A new Japanese promo video was also released today and can be seen below.

Bioshock Infinite: New Screenshots Revealed

BioShock-Infinite-Lizbook

If you think February is too long to wait for Irrational Games’ new chapter in the Bioshock series, then we may have something to hold you over.  Four brand new screenshots have been released and should do to whet rabid fans appetites until try can get hands on with this eagerly anticipated game.  For the uninitiated, this marks the third in the franchise and is a drastic change in tone and location for the series.  While the first games, Bioshock and Bioshock 2, took place in the ravaged undersea utopia of Rapture Infinite takes place in a lively and vibrant city in the sky called Columbia. Promising more characters and enemies as well as varied locations for combat and exploration, these new shots only hint at the game’s breadth.

LGND iPhone 4/4s Folio Case Review

LGND Premium Folio Case for iPhone 4/4s
Manufacturer: Incipio
Price: $34.49 USD Get it Here

Incipio is one of the major case manufacturers that has been in the business for an extended period of time. The company boasts a large line up of cases ranging from the super thin to the super protective. The LGND line of cases are folio type cases. The iPhone version of the LGND features a hard plastic back shell called Plextonium, a vegan leather face, and an interior microsuede lining. The case is available in Henry Ford colours. The case can be purchased in any colour you wish, as long as it is in black.

lgnd-iphone-review-005

To install the LGND, I simply needed to slide my iPhone 4 into the plastic shell. The fit is extremely tight, so the phone will not fall out under any normal circumstance. In fact, to remove the phone from the case, I needed to press hard with my thumbs to force the phone to slide out of the case. Unfortunately, due to the tight fit and the sizing of the shell, most screen protectors are not compatible with the LGND folio. I found the side lip on the case was rather large, causing larger screen protectors to either get stuck, causing the phone to fit incorrectly, or the screen protector would bubble severely. I found only extremely thin screen protectors worked, and even then I had some bubbling.

lgnd-iphone-review-003

Unlike many of Incipio’s iPhone offerings, the LGND does not come with the Incipio Vanity Kit that contains two screen protectors, a cleaning cloth, and a squeegee. This decision was probably made due to the face when closed the screen is protected by the flap. I personally would have personally put a screen protector in the kit purely because grit can easily get caught in between the cover and the iPhone and scratch the oleophobic coating. For those who insist that the iPhone’s glass is too wonderful feeling to cover with a screen protector, the LGND is an excellent option that balances protection for the screen from sharp pocket objects while leaving the screen naked.

The plastic shell on the case is a matte finish that almost feels like cloth. The material is extremely stiff and takes blows very well. The hole cut out for the camera does not interfere with the camera flash. The bottom has holes cut out for the speakers and the 30pin dock connector. I was able to fit the stock iPhone cable into the case with no problem, but the large size of the plastic shell prevents using most docks. I was able to fit it in my heavily modified dock with more trouble than usual. Most cases I am able to just barely make a connection with the dock, but with the LGND I had to really push in the phone and be very careful not to move it in the slightest, lest it lost connection with the dock. Because the phone is very difficult to take out, the LGND is not dock friendly at all.

lgnd-iphone-review-002

The headphone jack is larger than most iPhone cases on the market and will fit most earphones on the market. I was able to fit almost all my headphone cables except the stock Shure se215 cables. Unfortunately, extremely large high end plugs found on more expensive IEMs and reference headphones will need an adapter to fit the LGND case. The volume buttons and vibration switch side of the case is left completely bare and is protected by the cover’s hinge when the case is closed. The hinge is located off centre to allow for access to the volume and vibration functions while the case is closed. Due to the design, the LGND is compatible with all iPhone 4 and 4s models.

lgnd-iphone-review-001

The cover of the case is attached to the far end of the case allowing for the hinge to move freely. This provides several options for propping the case up for a comfortable viewing angle. I managed to figure out a few viewing angles on my own alongside the suggested set up. I found the suggested setup instruction on the box to be extremely vague, only providing a very small icon on the lower left hand corner on the back of the box. A larger image or a sheet of paper showing the possible viewing angles would be an appreciated addition for those purchasing the case in stores versus ordering from Incipio’s own webpage.

The leather used for the case is vegan leather, pleather, or fake leather, depending on how you wish to spin it. Although some feel that vegan leather is not as durable as real animal hide, I found the vegan leather to be very durable. It resisted scratches well. I did notice it the feel of the vegan leather is slightly more plastic feeling than real leather, but that will be the trade-off for the blood and guilt free leather.

lgnd-iphone-review-006

The overall weight and bulk of the case is extremely low. I am impressed that the case seems so sturdy yet manages to maintain an extremely light weight. It feels very nice in the hand, though I personally found the cover to get into the way when holding the case one handed. Quickly flipping open the cover and using the phone required me to hold the case very lightly because if I gripped the phone, I noticed myself naturally closing the cover on the case. The only way I could really get a strong grip on the phone was to completely flip the cover over and hold the phone normally. I found this was a small minor annoyance to ensure I had a firm grip on my phone. I noticed this was a bigger problem when holding the phone with my right hand versus the left, so lefties might want to keep this in mind.

Overall, the LGND case is an excellent product. It has a few hiccups due to the incompatibility with phone docks and certain screen protectors, its lack of added screen protector compared to other Incipio cases, and the slight hassle to get a proper grip on the phone. However, the case is extremely light, strong, and very stylish. It is fairly priced at $34.99 and is an excellent option for those who are looking for a professional looking case for their phone or want a little extra protection for their naked iPhone screens.

Day Z Standalone Delayed

day-z-delay

In an age where release now, patch later is a pretty common attitude, few companies are holding fast to the “it’ll be out when it’s ready” mantra. Delays cost money, and few companies are willing to make the risk. So it is refreshing to hear Dean “Rocket” Hall has chosen to delay the stand alone version of Day Z. “At Eurogamer I said that DayZ had to be out before the end of the year and that’s come and gone. I still stand by that comment, to achieve what we had originally wanted, we did have to be out by the end of the year – and we’ve failed to achieve that,” said Hall on his blog.

Instead of a release, Hall has provided some juicy tidbits on what’s in store for the Day Z Standalone release. The item and inventory system has been completely revamped, allowing for the possibility of item durability, disease tracking, among other ideas being thrown around right now. The UI has been made to be more user friendly, something that Day Z the mod struggled with.

Hall also shared some of the difficulties of remapping Chernarus as the original mapper is one of the two Bohemia Interactive developers in prison in Greece. Although he has been unable to directly assist the Day Z team, he has managed to help out through letters sent from prison.
