ps4-remote-play-01

With the president of Gaikai on stage for Sony’s Meeting 2013, several big topics were announced.  One of the most significant of those announcements, though, was the introduction of what Sony is calling “Remote Play.”

As demonstrated on-stage with Knack, Sony’s first officially announced PlayStation 4 title, Remote Play will allow players to pick up their PlayStation Vita (that’s right, Vita owners – Sony hasn’t forgotten about you!) and stream your PlayStation 4 games in full fidelity straight to your PlayStation Vita.

On top of being able to play PlayStation 4 games on your Vita, Remote Play will also let players have their friends take over control of their game from across the internet.  This provides some really interesting possibilities for play in the future.

PlayStation 2013: Gaikai Connects Us All

Playstation-see-the-future-01

At the PlayStation 2013 event, Gaikai CEO and Founder David Perry elucidated us on the true integration of Gaikai with the PlayStation 4..

He said, “try it for free, share it if you like it and pay for it only if you love it.” Facebook and UStream are official partners that are going to help connect us all and bring fans together. It is “the first social gaming network with meaning – dedicated to games”  You will be able to use “the share button to broadcast from your game live 100% in real time.” UStream integration will also allow to multi-casting capabilities.

Down the line, the ability to stream the entire back catalog of PlayStation games, across all generations, to any device will be possible (we’ll need clarification on that…any device sounds insane!). The fastest global network ever made will be necessary for this, and the project to create such a network has been greenlit by Sony.

Cloud services will be revealed and released in phases, so for all future information, stay tuned to Capsule Computers as we continue to update you.

First PlayStation 4 Game Announced as Knack

ps4-knack-01

With Sony having its Meeting 2013 on a cold February Wednesday, everyone wondered what Sony would have coming down the pipe.  Would they announce the next system?  What about the new controller or system capabilities?  Would they show off any games?

Approximately twenty minutes into the meeting, Sony’s Mark Cerny announced the first official PlayStation 4 game,  a title that he is directing.  That game is called Knack.

Humanity is in trouble.  Orcs are attacking and humanity needs a way to fight back.  Enter Knack.  Knack shows a small robotic type creature with the ability to manipulate items around him to modify the size of his body and more.

Keep your eyes tuned here to Capsule Computers for more as Sony works through their 2013 Meeting.

playstation-4-controller

It looks like the latest PlayStation 4 controller image that was leaked turned out to be the real thing. Today during Sony’s PlayStation Live event the company revealed the above controller which has seen a large number of modifications over it’s predecessors.

As you can see before, the DualShock 4 as it is called will be a wireless controller with enhanced analog sticks, an improved rumble feature, a lower latency level… all of which we should expect with a new console. However a number of new features have also been added, including a brand new touchpad, a share button, a headphone jack and the lightbar on top. According to the presentation this lightbar is meant to be used to identify players and used with the new camera peripheral for the PlayStation 4.

During the first few minutes, at least after the initial video montage of nostalgic commercials from major Sony properties over the years, of Sony’s PlayStation Live event on February 20th Sony has announced that the PlayStation 4 is indeed being developed and the company is planning on revealing more information about the console throughout the presentation.

Currently it has been mentioned that the PlayStation 4 has been in development for the last five years. Expect more updates throughout the next couple of hours as Sony reveals more information not only about the PlayStation 4 but also more information about other Sony game products.

Atelier Totori Plus may head West; rated R18+ in Australia

Things have been a bit touch and go ever since Tecmo Koei acquired Gust late in 2011. Fans have been mostly unaffected by this shift in ownership but whereas NIS America never seemed to have an issue bringing any of the Atelier titles over, fans grew concerned that Tecmo Koei has made no mention of Atelier Totori Plus: The Adventurer of Arland, the Vita version of the game featuring a few upgrades.

However today the Australian Ratings Board listed Atelier Totori Plus: The Adventurer of Arland on their website with an official rating. This listing says that Tecmo Koei is the publisher which means that we will likely be hearing of an official localization announcement sometime very soon. Also, be sure to check out that listing and wonder how a game rated T for Teen in North America has been given an R18+ for sexual violence in Australia.

Can you believe that it has been ten years since the last actual Shin Megami Tensei game was released? Back on February 20, 2003 Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne was released on the PlayStation 2 in Japan and on this 10th anniversary of that date, Atlus, via Famitsu, has announced that Shin Megami Tensei IV will be released on May 23rd in Japan.

To go along with the game’s release, a special limited edition 3DS XL will be released alongside the game. This awesome looking 3DS XL also comes with a digital version of the game pre-installed on the handheld. Currently there is no information about the title heading West in any form, but given the success the series has seen in the past, it is only a matter of time before we see news of the game heading overseas.

Murdered: Soul Suspect announced for early 2014 release by Square Enix

T

Today Square Enix announced that they will be bringing a unique murder mystery title to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC early in 2014. Why is this murder mystery different from most? Because when Murdered: Soul Suspect begins you are dead.

To go along with the game’s announcement the company also released the below teaser trailer. The main point of Murdered: Soul Suspect is that players will have to solve their own murder after being killed. Currently additional details are very scarce but this is a new twist on a murder mystery that hasn’t been explored much in video games outside of a certain DS title back in 2011.

See the Guts of Gears of War: Judgment’s Multiplayer

Gears-Of-War-Judgment-Guts-01

The Gears of War franchise has been known for its kick-ass multiplayer, and Judgment is shaping up to present the most complete, versatile and blistering multiplayer action yet.

At the bottom of this article, you will find a new video entitled ‘Gears of War: Judgment’s “The Guts of Gears: Multiplayer”‘, which features a voice-over from lead character Baird, who runs us through the newest modes, weaponry and rewards in Gears of War: Judgment’s multiplayer…and not without some cheek.

Here is an official list of all the new features (although you should definitely watch the video below to see them in action):

Multiplayer Modes:

  • OverRun:
    • OverRun marks the first time that class-based competitive multiplayer has been introduced into the “Gears of War” series. Think of it as a combination of our popular Beast and Horde modes pitted against each other.  OverRun is a 5v5 attack/defend game type, where the COG are always defending, and the Locust are attacking… and you have an opportunity to play both as attacker and defender to determine the winning team.
  • Team Deathmatch:
    • In this returning fan-favourite, two teams of five players start with a shared pool of respawns. The goal is to take out your opponents and deplete their respawns before your own pool is gone. Perfect for “Gears” veterans and new recruits alike, Team Deathmatch has everyone battling to be the last squad standing.
  • Free-For-All:
    • Free-For-All is an “every player for themselves” Deathmatch mode.  No teams mean shoot anything that moves.  The perfect mode for relieving some stress.
  • Domination:
    • Domination is a 5v5 team based competitive multiplayer mode.  Teams will compete over three rings placed throughout the map.  Control the ring to earn points, the first team to 250 points wins the match.

Armory Updates:

  • Sticky Grenades: Like Frag Grenades, these cause lethal damage to opponents, except they stick to targets before detonation.
  • Beacon Grenades: The Beacon is a tactical grenade most commonly used by COG Scouts.  It electronically marks all enemy targets in its blast radius, and reveals their position for a short time, even though walls and other obstacles of any thickness.
  • Stim Grenades: The Stim is an extremely useful tool for Medics and those wishing to play a support role in combat.  When detonated, it emits a cloud of medicinal gas that will instantly heal all friendly targets within its radius.
  • Markza: Before the Locust invaded Sera, the people of the COG had spent decades at war with the Union of Independent Republics, and the Markza is one of the UIR’s most infamous weapons.  This semi-automatic rifle is perfect for medium range combat, with a deep clip and an attached scope that extends its effective range and ensures greater accuracy at distance.
  • Breechshot: The Locust are more than just a brute force, and the Breechshot is a shining example of their ingenuity and tactics. The base of the gun is a confiscated UIR Markza that has been converted to inflict massive amounts of damage.  The barrel has a larger bore to support a higher-caliber projectile, and the stock has been retrofitted with a vicious blade making this versatile weapon perfect for short to medium range combat.
  • Booshka: The Booshka is a devastating grenade launcher of UIR design.  It is capable of lobbing smart shells that detonate on direct impact with an enemy, or bounce off walls and other obstacles to detonate off a brief time
