Thomas Was Alone Platforming its way to PS3 and Vita

Things are looking pretty well for Mike Bithell, the developer behind last year’s indie hit Thomas Was Alone.  Now the indie title is moving past PC and Mac exclusivity onto the PS3 and PS Vita, also with cross buy.  Announced on Sony’s own PlayStation Blog, Mike Bithell stated that Thomas Was Alone would be making the journey this Spring.

Even with how amazing the game was with its original release, the PS3 and PS Vita version will be adding even more to it in the form of a creator commentary, exclusive prologue DLC with a new character, and touchscreen support for the Vita.  Thomas Was Alone is an amazing game and story that players who missed it on PC/Mac should look forward its console release.

Don’t believe how awesome a simple platformer can be?  It was my personal Editor’s Pick for Capsule Computer’s 2012 Game of the Year Awards whose review can be found HERE.

Wargame European Escalation Invading onto Linux

Wargame European Escalation has seen some pretty good success with hundreds of thousands of players coming to check out the strategy game since its release on PC last year and more recently Mac.  How does Eugen Systems plan to follow up that success in the time before Wargame AirLand Battle releases?  Make European Escalation available on yet another system.

Coming now to Linux thanks to Steam, those players that have yet to check out the game who do most of their gaming on a Linux system can see what those running PC and Mac have been getting up to.  Plus, they wont have to feel left out at all as the game works cross-platform allowing those on PC, Mac, and Linux to play altogether.  Those that already own it on PC and/or Mac can also receive a free copy of the Linux version as well.

Linux players, or PC/Mac players that haven’t gotten it yet, can find it now on Steam HERE.

Gundam Breaker headed to PS3/PSVita

gundam-breaker-screen-01

Bandai’s latest project in the Mobile Suit Gundam pipeline is a new game title by the name of Gundam Breaker.

The premise behind the game is quite interesting. If you are a fan of the many Gundam anime series out there, then odds are you’re familiar with Gunpla, or the practice of Gundam Model Kit Building. There are international competitions where Gunpla builders create their own customised mobile suits and submit them for judging based on originality and the degree of customization. This game accentuates that customization. Bandai is taking a page out of Armored Core’s book of gameplay stylings and adding the ability for players to fully customize and create their very own mobile suits to fight with in this stylised action game. The building style borrows heavily from the influence of Gunpla building as can be seen in the latest release trailer below.

Now while the release potential for this title in the west is pretty unlikey, the premise concept is pretty cool. And although I weigh the chances of a western release unlikely, that’s not going to stop this Gundam nut from importing upon release. The game appears to be set for a rough 2013 release on the Playstation 3 and PS Vita.

Starcraft II:Heart of the Swarm – Vengence trailer released

heart-of-the-swarm-vengence-01

The the latest instalment of the Starcraft franchise set for official release in under two weeks, Blizzard  has released yet another trailer for Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm. This latest video, labelled as the ‘Vengence’ trailer addresses the still ambigous nature of Heart of the Swarm’s plot and inevitably the central focus of its campaign mode. Sarah Kerrigan, one of the lead antagonists of the Starcraft franchise in the past is once again given the central spotlight.

After being rescued and restored to her human form by Jim Raynor during the events of Wings of Liberty, it appears that Jimmy and Sarah are no longer as buddy buddy as the end of the game would have us believe. Sarah is still after the head of Mengsk, her former leader turned maniacal dictator who left her to her fate at the claws of the Zerg swarm. The video shows her obsession over revenge leading her to potentially do the unthinkable: To willingly become a human/zerg abomination once more to carry her out.

Check out the trailer for yourselves below!

New trailer for Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods

dragon-ball-z-battle-of-gods-bills

A new trailer for the upcoming film  Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods has been released. The trailer goes for just over a minute and showcases the Z warriors attempting to take on Bills and Whis, the God of Destruction and his assistant.

The trailer revealed a few more interesting plot points. Bills is out to destroy earth and easily outclasses the Z warriors current power levels. One of the Saiyans (presumably Goku) transforms into a Great Ape, something we have not seen, at least in the main DBZ series, since the Saiyan Saga. After that, Bills and the narrator both comment on a “Super Saiyan God” appearing. V-Jump Magazine teased this in their latest issue and it is looking likely this will be an entirely new form of Super Saiyan.

The movie is set for a release in theaters throughout Japan on the 30th of March. You can view the latest trailer below.

Games Workshop Co-Founder Joins Playdemic as Chairman

I_Livingstone-01

Ever play a social game and think to yourself  ‘you know what this game is missing? Several books of deep lore.’ Well, your day has come. Ian Livingstone, a Commander of the British Order, has been appointed chairman of Playdemic. He is also the President of Eidos and under his chairmanship of Eidos we saw the release of iconic titles such as ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ and ‘Hitman.’

For those who prefer table top gaming, they’ll recognize Ian as being the co-founder of Games Workshop, publishers of the ‘Warhammer’ franchise. Paul Gouge, CEO of Playdemic, appointed Livingstone as chairman because he ‘demonstrates our commitment to creating the highest quality games… his incredible experience and expertise in all aspects of the industry will prove invaluable in Playdemic’s continued growth.’

While technically the board is above the CEO and other Chief Officers in a company, they usually convene a couple of times a year to approve the machinations that are already decided upon. Other duties include official spokesperson and CEO evaluation. Whether this appointment is a costly experiment in marketing or Ian will truly be able impact the quality of games like ‘Gourmet Ranch’ and ‘Village Life’ is yet to be seen. That is, if it’s a non-executive role.
