GamePocalypse 2013 to help wounded troops

GamePocalypse-2013-Logo-01
Bottomline Guild just announced that GamePocalypse 2013 will have all proceeds donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. GamePocalypse 2013 will be a 24 hour event where gamers will get to play their favorite MMOs like Rift, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, and PlanetSide 2. With all proceeds going to the charity, the event goal is to raise $50,000 for the wounded troops. 24 hours of playing games and cash donations are the least we can do as gamers to support those that serve to protect us and were injured in the process.

With such a grand event, there will of course be prizes for those that participate. As a sponsor FleshEatingZipper will be donating prizes courtesy of Sony Online Entertainment. Looking for a new PC? Well, Bossrigs.com will be raffling off a gaming PC during this event. PlanetSide 2 will even have t-shirts and hoodies to dish out. Rycon, Event Coordinator for Bottomline Guild, had the following to say:

It [GamePocalypse 2013] represents two things that are dear to me: playing games and helping others that are in need. With GamePocalypse, I get to do both!

Here is a mock list of guilds that will be participating in games during the event:

World of Warcraft:
Bottomline Guild
Guild Wars 2:
Bottomline Guild
Rift:
Bottomline Guild

PlanetSide 2:
Agony
Azure Twilight
Black Widow Company
NoNonsenseGamers
Sons of Odin
ZCompany

Wounded-Warrior-Project-Banner-01Let’s put out the facts here. There is a good cause to serve. To serve you only need to play hard during the 24 hours and possibly donate some cash. That is not too much to ask for when the Wounded Warrior Project serves those that placed themselves in danger for the sake of others. So on March 16th at 12:00 AM CST, I know where I’ll be. Do you?

Serve your brothers and sisters (here).

2013 British Academy Game Awards Results

bafta-01

Dishonored, Arkane Studio’s stealth first-person shooter, picked up Best Game at the British Academy Game Awards; fighting off tough competition from games such as Journey, The Walking Dead and Far Cry 3.

Despite this success for Dishonored, “Best Game” was the only award that it actually claimed, losing out on two other categories it was nominated in. This left Journey to steal the show taking home five awards for Artistic Achievement, Audio Achievement, Game Design, Online Multiplayer and Original Music. Journey has received acclaim for its innovative use of online multiplayer, with other users drifting in and out of the game with no user ID or any on-screen alerts, something which is somewhat of a revolutionary innovation. The fact the game picked up five awards left many shocked it didn’t also pick up best game overall.

Other notable successes were the game The Walking Dead, which picked up awards for Best Story and Best Mobile/Handheld game, and PSN title The Unfinished Swan, which was awarded the Game Innovation and Debut Game prizes.

In a special award Gabe Newell was awarded with a BAFTA Fellowship. Accepting the award Newell gave a speech acknowledging his fellow Valve staff, saying “I tend to show up at award shows, but everything we do at Valve is collaboration.”

A full roundup of results can be found here.

Company of Heroes 2 Release Date Secured

After being acquired by SEGA from that whole THQ thing, Company of Heroes 2 has kept moving forward and today they have announced the release date for the sequel to the hit strategy game.  Finally being released June 23rd, 2013 some fans may note that this is a little bit past the “early 2013” previously given for the game, but Relic Entertainment has apparently been using the time to ensure Company of Heroes 2 lives up to the original.

Now including ColdTech weather system, the new TrueSight for a dynamic line of sight system, and realistic destructibility, Company of Heroes 2 will be adding a lot more depth and strategy to the gameplay.  With luck the extra time spent with this delayed release date will mean a much more polished product for fans to enjoy.

Company of Heroes 2 will be releasing in North America and Europe on June 23rd, 2013 for PC.

tiger-woods-pga-tour-14

Fans of golf will be swinging for joy with this news. The demo for the anticipated Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 has hit the Xbox 360, and will be launching on the Playstation 3 as of tomorrow. So…it’s just a demo..you say? Well, this demo features the big ticket item of this year’s entry – which goes by the name of Legends of the Majors, as well as several other modes to tinker in.

Here are some extra details for the curious of what this mode is all about – as well as the new game itself:

• The Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo features one of the most compelling modes in franchise history – Legends of the Majors. The featured challenge, 1961 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, puts players in the shoes of golf legend Arnold Palmer, in the 1960’s era, with the legend’s era-specific attire, equipment and skills. Once the challenge is passed, gamers will unlock 1960’s Arnold Palmer for use in the full version of the game.

• For the first time in franchise history, the game will feature LPGA integration and gamers can get a preview of the LPGA via the all-new Quick Tournaments feature. Players can use LPGA golf phenom Lexi Thompson on a new course – Oak Hill Country Club.

• Golf in a “Twenty-foursome” through our all-new Connected Tournaments mode in the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo. Compete online against other players or friends and see as many as 23 shot arcs from other players on the course at the same time. Players can get a jumpstart on creating their country club tournaments by going to the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 website.

• The Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo will support motion control and continue the level of immersion as fans can play the demo with Kinect for Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation Move controllers.

Yes, that is quite a demo – featuring motion control support and three different modes. You can pick up the real deal of PGA Tour 14 on March 26th, and download the demo as of now.

Former WayForward Employees form Yacht Club Games

yacht-club-games-logo-01

I have always loved my dearest WayForward, as they always manage to pull of miracles when it comes to development, bringing out a retro spark in nearly every project they touch. Today, Sean Velasco announced that some of these great minds have branched out to form their own studio by the name of Yacht Club Games.

Oh, wait. Don’t worry. This is good news as this team have the same minds that brought us the wonderful Double Dragon Neon, Contra 4, and Mighty Milky Way – as well as that delightful Boy and his Blob remake on the Wii. Yes, this excited me a lot, as Yacht Club have already made a nice promise to continue their work of bringing a dose of retro stylings to modern gaming. Big things are in the works already from this team and “plans” are soon to be revealed – so stay tuned, as we will be bringing you every update about this studio as they grow.

Army of Two: The Devil’s Cartel Co-Op Demo Coming March 12

AOT-The-Devils-Cartel-Poster-01

EA have announced an early chance to play as Alpha and Bravo – in the form of a co-op demo –  before the fast-approaching release of Army of Two: the Devil’s Cartel on March 28th.

Army of Two has been one of the few AAA, blockbuster series of games whose gameplay is focused and built around the concept of co-operative play. And come March 12th via the Xbox Live Marketplace, and March 13th via the PlayStation Network, we will be able to download the demo and “step into the boots of private military contractors Alpha and Bravo as they embark on a mission to rescue a kidnapped politician while diffusing an additional hostage situation.”

This particular mission will have the duo fight their way through a dangerous drug lab to the rooftops of a sky rise. This cartel stronghold houses hordes of kamikaze cartel members, and with the lives of civilians at risk, the team will have to split up with one player running  into battle as the other man’s a helicopter’s stationed mini-gun to provide cover. With the implementation of the brand new Overkill feature, complete and utter destruction is a given.

So, check out the Army of Two: the Devil’s Cartel co-op demo available March 12th and March 13th for the Xbox 360 and PS3 respectively.
