Red Bull’s McConkey Documentary Premieres at Tribeca

R

The World Premiere of McConkey at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City brought together a cross-section of the film industry’s elite, sports legends and friends and family today. The film was selected as a Spotlight film in its 12th festival season and has had four screenings at the Festival, with a fifth screening added due to high demand.

McConkey celebrates the life of one of the world’s ultimate innovators, Shane McConkey – a pioneer in freestyle skiing and base jumping. In the latest film from Red Bull Media House in association with Matchstick Productions, Shane’s legacy is front and center.

The film marks the first 2013 release from Red Bull Media House, a global media company head-quartered in Salzburg, Austria.

McConkey will be available for sale Fall 2013. If you’re wondering what appeal it has to you or those unfamiliar with Shane’s world, an audience member at Tribeca said it this way;

What the film leaves us is that a life, any life, without passion is not really a life. And I hope everyone remembers that because to me he personified that in every aspect and it’s such a beautiful legacy to leave.

Global Artists Contribute to Star Trek Into Darkness Soundtrack

HH

Paramount Pictures have just revealed that various artists across 6 countries are contributing to the Star Trek: Into Darkness soundtrack. Amongst them are Australians, songwriter/producer Robert Conley and vocalist Penelope Austin, who co-wrote and worked on a track called “The Dark Collide”.

This is the first time a Paramount live-action film will feature lyricists, vocalists and music producers from around the world, each with their own contribution being spotlighted during the film’s theatrical run in each of the artists’ respective countries. Come May 9th, Aussies will be able to hear our own Conley and Austin‘s work during a pivotal scene with iconic Star Trek character Scotty.

The song – which Conley co-wrote with Austin – will also be found on the Star Trek: Into Darkness official soundtrack, which features Academy Award-winning composer Michael Giacchino’s score. It will also be available for digital download on all major platforms around the film’s release. Austin had this to say about the experience;

It is such a phenomenal opportunity that six artists around the world have been offered this opportunity. I am so excited to see and hear the results at the Premiere of Star Trek: Into Darkness at the Premiere tonight.

If you’re still not pumped for the action-blockbuster, check out the latest international trailer and cinemosaic, along with our first-hand impressions of a sizeable portion of the film.

Mother 3 fan translator offers script to Nintendo

Mother-3-banner
After the announcement that Nintendo would be releasing Earthbound on the Virtual Console following a great deal of speculation, Mother 3 fan translator Clyde Mandelin has extended the offer to Nintendo to use his translation script completely free of charge.

Mandelin expressed hopes that Nintendo would localize Mother 3 (presumably under the titled Earthbound 2) and feels that his offer may help make their job easier in doing just that. He even further states that he would make any edits required to the translation should Nintendo choose to use his work.

You can check out the trailer for his fan translation of Mother 3 below. It is quite unlikely that Nintendo would take Mandelin up on his offer but you have got to commend him for reaching out to them and even offering to do the job for free – a real class act.

What do you think of the chances of Mother 3 getting localized in the West? Let us know in the comments section below.

Nordic Games Acquires Darksiders, Red Faction

teaser-logo-nordic-games-01

Nordic Games has proved you don’t just find bargains on games in discount bins. THQ’s implosion has made picking up entire franchises as affordable as buying into Sydney real estate, with several titles proving to be even cheaper. Spending $4.9 million over all, Nordic Games have claimed over 10 individual franchises to add to their catalogue. 505 Games cleaned up what was on offer, rounding out THQ‘s final sales figure to $6.55 million.

If you’ve ever been a fan of Darksiders, Red Faction, MX vs ATV, Destroy all Humans!, Summoner, Marvel Super Hero Squad or Supreme Commander then you can expect Nordic Games to be giving you something new in the coming years. They’ve also acquired Titan Quest, Frontlines, Stuntman, Juiced and Full Spectrum Warrior. CEO Lars Wingefors has indicated they’re not going to rush out any titles. Rather, they’re going to take a look at the health of each franchise and individually assign sales strategies to them depending on their strengths.

dansai-bunri-sentai-01

Sentai Filmworks announced that it has acquired the TV anime Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge, titled The Severing Crime Edge, for North America. It is due to release digitally first before being distributed as a home release late in the year.

The series protagonist, Haimura Kiri, has an obsession with cutting people’s hair. He comes across Mushiyanokouji Iwai whose hair cannot be cut due to a curse. Coincidentally his mysterious scissor, “Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge”, can. This sparks an old murder game to kill the girl known as the “Hair Queen” using these cursed murder tools. Kiri is then forced to protect Iwai from the participants.

Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge was a Spring 2013 pick by one of our editors and is currently airing in Japan and streaming on Crunchy Roll.
