New Super Luigi U also will be released as a standalone title

new-super-luigi-u-box-artYou may recall that “New Super Luigi U” was going to simply be some DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U, but it seems that it will now also be released as a standalone game. During their Nintendo Direct presentation the company announced that the game can still be downloaded as a cheaper add on, but it can also be purchased by those who never bought the original game thanks to this standalone release.

It is interesting to note that since Mario does not appear in the game at all, multiplayer players will have the choice of selecting Luigi, Nabbit, Blue Toad and Yellow Toad to choose from. Nabbit doesn’t power up from items but he also doesn’t take damage from enemies, making him quite a unique character.

As for the game itself, it offers 82 updated courses and will be sold for $19.99 as DLC on June 20th while the standalone version will be released on August 25th in North America and July 25th in Europe for $29.99.

Sonic Lost World announced for Wii U and 3DS

Sonic-Lost-World-reveal

Today during their Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo president and CEO Satoru Iwata announced that the company would be entering into a partnership with Sega and Sonic. To be a bit more specific he said the following:

“Today, I would like to announce that we have entered into an worldwide partnership with Sega on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The next game in the series, Sonic Lost World, is a brand new action-adventure platforming game that will launch exclusively on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.”

As you can see, Sonic Lost World will be exclusive to Nintendo consoles and we have already seen that they have announced Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games for the Wii U and apparently there is a third Sonic game waiting to be announced at a later date, so it looks like fans of Sonic may need to become fans of Nintendo consoles for future titles.

Yakuza 1 & 2 HD announced for Wii U in Japan

For the first time ever, the Yakuza series will be appearing on a non Sony platform. It was announced in Japan today via a Japanese Nintendo Direct presentation that Sega will be releasing Yakuza 1 & 2 HD on the Wii U on August 8th.

It is worth noting that Yakuza 1 & 2 HD was released on the PS3 in Japan last year, but this is still quite a notable addition to the Wii U’s lacking library. Yakuza 1 & 2 HD will feature off-screen GamePad play and a number of other Wii U specific features that were not detailed further. It is worth noting that Yakuza 1 & 2 HD on the Wii U has not been announced for Western release at this time.

The Wonderful 101 release date announced

the-wonderful-101-title

Today during a Nintendo Direct presentation it was announced that one of the hottest Wii U titles that gamers have been waiting for has finally been given a release date. Though don’t get too excited, it still is a bit of a ways off.

It was announced that Platinum Games’ Wii U exclusive The Wonderful 101 will be released in North America on September 15th while gamers in Europe will be getting it a few months earlier on August 23rd. Strangely enough, Japan will be getting the title last on August 24th. Nintendo mentioned that more details about the game will be mentioned during one of their Nintendo Directs during E3 this year.

Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics 2 announced for Wii U

Guess what? Next year ends in an even number. Know what that means? One half of the Olympic games will be held that year and Nintendo and Sega are teaming up once again in a completely unsurprising collaboration to bring Wii U gamers a chance to join in on the Winter Olympics once more.

Today it was announced that Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games will be released on the Wii U and will make use of the Wii Remote Plus and the GamePad to play various events. These events include things such as snowboarding, curling, luge and more Winter Olympic events.

Nintendo to provide E3 game demos at Best Buy stores

Nintendo has announced that they will be doing something a little special during the week of E3 this year. Rather than providing Wii U game demos to only the select few normal people and game journalists that enter the event, they will instead be giving everyone a chance to play their Wii U games early. Well, everyone who lives near a Best Buy in the US and Canada.

Today it was announced that during the week of E3 Nintendo will be providing unreleased Wii U game demos from E3 to Best Buy so fans of the Wii U or potential Wii U buyers will have a chance to try out games that will be coming to the system in the future. Currently it is unknown what games will be offered but Nintendo will likely announce more details closer to the event.

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection release date set for early July

metal-gear-solid-legacy-packaging

Back in April it was announced that Konami would be bringing the Metal Gear Solid franchise together in one simple bundle for fans of the series or newcomers to purchase. However at the time only a vague release window was given and it seems that Konami won’t be able to make it within that window. However they did announce today that Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection will be released in North America and South America on July 9th.

For those who don’t know, The Legacy Collection is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Metal Gear Solid franchise and it contains the original Metal Gear Solid, the HD versions of Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and Peace Walker, the Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and last but not least, the Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition. To top all that off, it also will come with two Ashley Wood digital graphic novels and a brand new 100 page art book which highlights the various art that has been used to market the franchise throughout its 25 year history.
