Namco Bandai Gaming Booth at Supanova Sydney

Tales-of-xillia-01

When it came to gaming booths this one in particular would have to take the cake for me! It’s the Namco Bandai Gaming Booth at this year’s Sydney Supanova Expo. It wasn’t a very big booth but it was still great! It had about six or seven screens set up with Playstation 3 consoles which were all playable and had games that haven’t been released but hopefully we will see soon. Games like One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 and Tales of Xillia were playable and even though we weren’t allowed to take any pictures of any of it I managed to get my hands on the Playstation which had One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 on it and, let me tell you now, it was brilliant!

They didn’t only have those games though, they had games like Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 set up and although it has already been released the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm series is a key Namco Bandai game and definitely deserves to be there at the booth. One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2 and Tales of Xillia have previously never been playable in Australia so for Namco Bandai to allow the general public to get a nice, little, hands-on experience was just perfect and, in fact, left people wanting those games even more. The whispers and murmurs of players leaving the booth were nothing but positive.

You could see the crowd slowly building up around the booth at certain parts of the day, at some points it was hard to even get near or past the booth but all the attention that it got was extremely well deserved. Hopefully we get to see more and more of these games in the coming weeks and months!

Homestuck invades Supanova Sydney

homestuck-supanova-sydney
Supanova Sydney 2013 was home to all manner of fandoms, be it Doctor Who or even Attack on Titan. But perhaps the most enthusiastic of all the fandoms present was the Homestuck fans. In particular Supanova witnessed a mass gathering of Homestuck fans that comprise the NSW Homestuck fangroup known as ‘Chalkstuck’.

The ‘Chalkstuck’ group took to the convention spreading their love of Homestuck throughout, horn-clad and beautifully bizarre in every single way. Their affection for Homestuck was easily evident, living up to their claim that they are ‘the best fandom’ out.

You can check out the very passionate Homestuck fangroup ‘Chalkstuck’ on their official Facebook and their official Tumblr pages.

For those of you uninitiated into the crazy world of Homestuck, it is an interactive web-comic which can be read on MSPaint Adventures here. It all revolves around the strange goings-on in the life of John Egbert a teenager who survives a meteor attack and is subsequently transported to another planet. The series has spawned a very dedicate fanbase and their flash-mob like showing at Supanova Sydney was a testament to that passion.

Whenever fans get invested in an anime they are always concerned that they may never see a second season. However fans of the Date A Live anime adaptation didn’t need to worry about that at all because today the last episode of Date A Live season one ended with the second season announcement and even a brief preview trailer for what fans can expect in the second season.

The preview showed a number of new Spirits including a possible new villain. As for when we can expect a second season, currently no date has been set. FUNimation currently holds the streaming rights to the show in North America and will likely be releasing a physical version of the anime sometime in the future.

Hanabee Licenses Daily Lives of High School Boys

Just your regular, day to day life

Hanabee Entertainment has announced, at Supanova 2013, that they have licensed the series Daily Lives of High School Boys. Directed by Shinji Takamatsu, director of Gintama and School Rumble, the series adapts Yasunobu Yamauchi’s manga and explores the lives of three highschoolers.

Welcome to the daily lives of Tadakuni, Hidenori and Yoshitake, students at the all-boys academy of Sanada North High School! Here in this story you will not find any world revolutions, a teenaged hero in crisis, a star crossed love story or giant fighting robots…well, not in reality anyway. (In the mind of an average teenage boy however, the possibilities are endless.) Instead take a step back and embrace the wild fun teenage life has to offer over trivial pursuits and inane thoughts (just who exactly is the better looking one in the group?) and in the knowledge that sometimes reality can be stranger than fiction.

The entire 12 episode series, along with bonus Tokuten OVA, is set to be released on June 31st. Daily Lives of High School Boys will be a DVD only release and will not receive an English dub, instead featuring the original Japanese audio. High school life has never seemed so strange when it’s been so average.

Hanabee licenses Revolutionary Girl Utena

Hanabee Entertainment have just announced at Supanova Sydney 2013 that they have acquired the licence for the cult-classic anime series Revolutionary Girl Utena. Directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara of Sailor Moon and Penguindrum fame, Revolutionary Girl Utena is a must watch anime to say the very least.

The series is slated to be released in 3 parts all housed in a lovely collector’s box bundled with a detailed booklet on the series. Part 1 will release on 18TH SEPTEMBERPart 2 will release on 16th OCTOBER and Part 3 will release on 20TH NOVEMBER.

A chivalrous pink-haired adventuress will revolutionize the world!

“Never lose that strength or nobility, even when you grow up.” When Utena was just a child and in the depths of sorrow, she found salvation in those words. They were the words of a prince, who wrapped her in his rose-scented embrace and bestowed upon her both a ring and the promise that it would lead her to him again. She never forgot the encounter. In fact, she was so impressed that she aspired to be like the prince and also help those in need.

Now a spirited teenager, Utena attends the prestigious Ohtori Academy. However, her strong sense of chivalry soon places her at odds with the school’s student council and thrusts her into a series of mysterious and dangerous duels against its members.

This is the first time Revolutionary Girl Utena and its entire 39 episodes will be released in Australia. To put the cherry on top, the release will feature dual audio with an English dub alongside the original Japanese audio.
