Microids to Distribute Nancy Drew Games for 2014

Microids and Her Interactive have announced that they will be partnering up in the new year. This partnership makes sense, as Microids already has a solid list of strong female protagonists in their games like Syberia‘s Kate Walker and Still Life‘s Victoria McPherson. So, it is great to see such a great team up to help Nancy Drew continue to prosper around the world.

After decades of books and movies, not to mention 15 years of adventure video games totaling over 9 million copies sold, Nancy Drew is still going strong with its fanbase of girls and women of all ages. Next year alone will see 6 new game titles, all of which will be distributed by Microids for Europe. These six new games have already been announced as The Silent SpyGhost of Thornton HallThe Deadly DeviceTomb of the Lost QueenAlibi in Ashes, and The Captive Curse all of which will be releasing throughout 2014 for PC and Mac.

Why Rift Isn’t Just a WoW Clone

Rift-Storm-Legion-01

I recently started playing Rift, an MMO released in 2011. The game is focused on the opening of rifts, which are portals that lead to other planes. Each of these rifts introduces different monsters and enemies that will try to kill you if they see you.

There are two main factions, Guardians and Defiant, though players are able to interact and play with the opposing faction. I’ve always been a huge fan of MMOs. I was a hardcore raider in WoW (World of Warcraft) and have dabbled in other MMOs such as Everquest and Guild Wars 1/2. I enjoyed the aspects and characteristics of MMORPGs. Leveling and min/maxing my characters so that they are the most efficient in battle was a part of the game that I loved. Ever since the slow decay of WoW, I’ve turned my attention to other MMORPGs to sate my thirst for questing, guild camaraderie, and epic loot. My slow transition took me through several games, ranging from Star Wars: The Old Republic, Guild Wars 1/2, Neverwinter, Tera, and some others. I have not found any MMO that has kept me more interested than Rift has so far, besides Guild Wars 2.

The game has a surprisingly complex class system that creates a lot of class diversity within the game. Leveling is a breeze, considering Trion has implemented a variety of different leveling methods within the game, whether they are through PvP (Player versus Player), Instant Adventures (Huge questing groups), or Dungeons (Instanced zones). The game’s flavor creates a wonderfully unique atmosphere that really makes the player come back for more. The game is all F2P (free to play) now, making it a great, free mmo game to add to your game library. I would highly consider Rift to be a necessary game to include in an MMORPG fanatic’s arsenal. It easily trumps some of the experiences I’ve had with other titles, and so far, it has not disappointed me.

Ranger Call Episode 03 – Ranger Rage

Power-Rangers-Ranger-Call

20 years ago, a show by the name of Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers blasted onto our television line-up, featuring five teenagers who would tackle evil on a daily basis. As the years passed, we as fans grew up and moved on, but the series continued, evolving in different ways to retain an ageless charm that has ultimately resulted in a hardcore fan following. Ranger Call is a celebration of the phenomenon, where Dustin Spencer and Andrew Day come together to speak about their memories and discuss the many tropes that the show offered throughout its many incarnations.

Power-Rangers-Neo-Grifforzer

This week, we bring back Ranger Call and crank it to the MAX….with news that is. From the new DVD sets, Mega Force entering Netflix, and several other stories, our two hosts spend their time sharing opinions on some awesome topics while touching on some very hot topics in the PR Universe. Will the Ranger War be decent? Is Amy Jo Johnson sincere? Do we have trouble remembering cast member’s names? All of that and more can be found in this episode of Ranger Call! Tune in below.

Scraps Launched on Kickstarter

Moment-Studio-01

There seems to be a growing number of New Zealand game developers. Scraps is a potential new game that may materialize from the creative minds of New Zealand game creator, Moment Studio. Intended for the PC, Mac and Linux, the game is based on a simple and fun activity – designing and controlling a machine on wheels to battle and dominate other combat vehicles. It has already launched on Kickstarter for crowd-funding and is looking to raise $23,000NZD.

Moment-Studio-Scraps-01

Moment Studio is actually the efforts of a solo developer Bill Borman, who has been spent a good full year developing this game. The vehicle building aspect of the game is said to be “pretty much solid” with an early builder demo already available for download, although multiplayer gameplay is still several months away. Scraps is going to offer an alpha release of the game, not to give gamers a taste test so to speak, but to make use of a promise by Kickstarter to contribute about $20NZD for every copy of the Alpha released, which when ready in mid-2014 will offer multiplayer melee gameplay and a basic set of vehicle parts. An alpha purchase also means more game content, such as car parts, chassis types and additional game modes.
