Two Tribes Rebooting After Poor Results from Toki Tori 2

Two-Tribes-Reboot-01

Two Tribes, the studio developers behind the Toki Tori series, has been shut down because of less-than-stellar performances in development and sales.

In a blog post that states all the facts on what’s happening with Two Tribes, co-founders Martijn Reuvers and Collin van Ginkel said “When Toki Tori 2 ended up taking way longer than expected and not achieving the sales we needed, it basically took the company down with it.” Most of the team was laid off, leaving only the co-founders in their empty office. However, they will still be creating an internal studio under Two Tribes Publishing as a subsidiary. Two Tribes Publishing is the parent company to Two Tribes, and will have no noticeable changes.

toki-tori-2-plus-02

The next planned title for this new developing studio under Two Tribes will be a 2D side-scrolling shooter, one that will utilize the Toki Tori 2 engine. The co-founders have a different outlook on their company’s methods. The blogpost states that, “We’ve decided to move away from creating custom technology and focus on what’s readily available.”

Hopefully Two Tribes will live up to their former glory and thrive in this competitive setting we currently have. To see the original blogpost, click here.

MIDNIGHT CITY ANNOUNCES NEXT BATCH OF INDIE RELEASES

MIDNIGHT CITY ANNOUNCES NEXT BATCH OF INDIE RELEASES

Krautscape, Double Dragon Neon Coming to Steam with Slender: The Arrival for the First Time on Consoles in 2014

Edison, NJ – January 8, 2014 – Midnight City, the recently founded indie label of Majesco Entertainment Company (NASDAQ: COOL), an innovative provider of games for the mass market, is proud to announce its next batch of indie games coming to market; generative racer Krautscape and throwback brawler Double Dragon: Neon will both be coming to Windows PC via Steam, with Slender: The Arrival making its console debut on Xbox Live online entertainment network for the Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation® Network. All three titles are planned to launch in the first quarter of 2014, each listed at a tasty $9.99.

Midnight City is excited to introduce Krautscape, the revolutionary racer from Mario von Rickenbach, coming to Windows PC via Steam early next year. Featuring hybrid bird-like flying cars and color-soaked racetracks in the sky, Krautscape shows off Rickenbach’s keenly unique perspective towards tactical racing – by giving his cars wings. Players can jump off the track and glide through open air to avoid obstacles and collect special items. Driver-pilots then return to the track to gain speed and score points to win, creating a tension and balance all its own. The dynamic racetrack is generated real-time by the lead vehicle; turn right and the track builds right, turn left and it builds left – meaning no two races are ever entirely the same. In addition to speed trials, different modes challenge players to do more than just be the first to cross the finish line. Combining a track that drivers can steer and cars that can fly, Rickenbach has created a game that looks and plays like nothing else.

Billy and Jimmy Lee are back in Double Dragon: Neon, a reboot of the classic side-scrolling beat-em-up that is coming to Windows PC via Steam. To mark the occasion, developer Abstraction has gone back to the dojo and returned with an all-new online co-op mode for the true Double Dragon experience players have been waiting for. While taking down the Shadow Warriors and facing off with Skullmageddon, co-op players can ‘high-five’ to share health, ‘psych’ up their comrades for special moves and revive their fallen partner. Keep an eye on your surroundings to discover life-restoring sodas, peruse the shop for items and find special mixtapes. The tapes can be stacked to pump up their effects, while playing two tapes at once creates a fusion of powers for devastating results!

The only official Slender Man game, Slender: The Arrival, is back to scare your pants off with two new levels created for its console debut. Blue Isle Studios has gone back to the brink of insanity to bring even more new content to Slender Man fans, all with a smooth layer of polish for console audiences. Featuring the hallmark terror, insanity and paranoia of the original, the latest iteration will delve deeper into the lives of those Slender Man has touched. Once players complete the core game, they’ll gain access to new flashback levels that will put them in the shoes of Slender Man’s victims. Slender: The Arrival is the definitive Slender Man experience on console that taps into the powers of loss, fear and curiosity. Blue Isle Studios plans to release new console content as a free update to the standalone PC and Steam versions following the release for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

Krautscape is rated E for Everyone, Slender: The Arrival and Double Dragon: Neon are rated T for Teen.

Unique FPS Title ‘Get Even’ Announced and Now In Development

Get-Even-01

Game developers The Farm 51 announced today that their unique FPS title ‘Get Even’ is now in development for next-gen consoles and PCs.

The game will be very different from the typical shooters that today’s gaming community has grown accustomed to. Get Even removes the barrier between multiplayer and singleplayer experiences and meshes them together into a very unique storyline and game experience. The game mixes certain elements of horror and thriller with an exploratory focus.

One of the unique aspects of the game is that when a player embarks on a singleplayer mission, other individuals on the network can join him in the quest as enemies, making the players always wonder whether the enemies they face are humans or NPCs. Get Even is also the first game to utilize a large-scale, real world scanning to create a very expansive and realistic environment.

Get-Even-02

With a talented crew, some of who were responsible for bringing Painkiller: Hell and Damnation, Deadfall Adventures, and NecroVisioN, The Farm 51 aims to create a new meta for the FPS genre, one that doesn’t follow the traditional lines of today’s expected FPS guidelines.

The game is scheduled to be released in 2015, and is expected to be widely distributed through digital means. Check out their trailer below!

Wargame: Red Dragon Teaser Unleashes Huge Aerial Assault

wargame-red-dragon-01

Eugen Systems and Focus Home Entertainment have revealed the first teaser trailer for the next entry in the Wargame series, Wargame: Red Dragon. Tension may be ramping up in its East Asia setting, but so are fans’ anticipation and excitement for the title.

The video – which can be seen embedded at the bottom of this article – gives us a taste of the spectacular firepower being rained down upon by both the NATO and Pact armies. This new conflict also brings forth new factions, units and combat vehicles, taking the total over 1,300. The introduction of naval units play no small part in that, as landing crafts, amphibian vehicles and warships will be available for the first time. Gameplay will be familiar to series regulars, although the locations will not. Set between 1975 and 1991, 5 new Asian nations join the battle. You’ll be able to fight your war over China or Korea, amongst other countries.

Also check out the following batch of new, and not-so-new official screenshots.

Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers Deck Pack 3 Out Now

magic-2014-screenshot-01

with 2013 over, Magic the Gathering has just wound down on its 20th anniversary. However, that doesn’t mean the strategy game in any of its forms shows any signs of slowing down. Today, Wizards have launched the latest lot of DLC decks for the digital adaptation – Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers. From today you can download these two new decks:

  • Warsmith: In the red and white “Warsmith” deck, the mere presence of your artifacts on the battlefield will bolster your unstoppable forces and empower your spells. Forge your army, and march to war!
  • Hunting Season: With this green deck, the creatures at your command will become unnaturally large, and if that should prove insufficient to crush your enemy, make more creatures. Call the hunt!

So that’s two new decks to get your hands on and try out online or against the AI opponents. Magic 2014 is still available on pretty much all platforms so if you haven’t done so already, be sure to check it out. As always, stay tuned to Capsule Computers for all the Magic the Gathering news as it becomes available.
