The Garbage Pail Kids Movie Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Headed to Stores this December

garbage-pail-kids-screenshot-01

I remember when I was little I saw a random cover for a movie with kids in it. I remember renting it, and watching the little toy-like specimens snotting all over the place and for some reason sewing clothes (I might be wrong on that, but this is what I recall)? I also remember I loved every second of it. Maybe age has changed my opinion of The Garbage Pail Kids, but this is still a great gem to own on Blu-ray. Scream Factory (or SHOUT!, if you will) are releasing a collector’s edition of the classic, with a good lot of special features that are as follows:

garbage-pail-kids-boxart-01

Special Features:

  • NEW The Effects of the Garbage Pail Kids Movie – interviews with special makeup effects creator John Carl Buechler and makeup effects artist Gino Crognale
  • NEW On the Set – an interview with first assistant director Thomas A. Irvine
  • NEW The Artful Dodgeran interview with actor Mackenzie Astin
  • NEW The Kids Aren’t All Right – interviews with Garbage Pail Kids actors Arturo Gil (Windy Winston) and Kevin Thompson (Ali Gator)
  • Theatrical Trailer

It looks fantastic and the timing is great with the nostalgia wave in full force. You can pre-order from this little link (or Amazon – if you prefer) and enjoy a great but not-so-great to watch with popcorn flick on December 8th.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash Coming to Australia This Fall With a Bonus

mario-tennis-ultra-smash-01

The bonus is Mario Tennis 64 for the Virtual Console. There. Spoilers. I hate clickbait articles but you can only fit so much in a title, so there is the answer for that question right up front. Back on track, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash is headed to the Wii U and looks pretty sharp thus far. The game features use of just about every controller and will bring back some of Nintendo’s most famous reps as well as amiibo support.

mario-tennis-ultra-smash-05

Here are a list of features:

  • Knockout Challenge: Tense tiebreak matches against increasingly difficult computer-controlled opponents await in this single-player mode. If the going gets too tough, you can call in a supported amiibo as your doubles partner.
  • Mega Battle: Your character grows to gigantic proportions after grabbing a Mega Mushroom, dominating the court with their increased power and range. When rivals on both sides of the net are giant-sized, anything can happen!
  • Classic Tennis: For those who prefer their tennis a little more traditional, Classic Tennis offers two variations: Standard mode features Chance Shots and Jump Shots but no Mega Mushrooms, while Simple puts competitors between the tramlines with no Chance Shots or power-ups – a real test of tennis prowess.
  • Online multiplayer: Go up against distant adversaries from all over the world in competitive ranked play in either Mega Battle or Classic Tennis modes, or quickly jump into more casual matches. Two players on the same console can team up to take on all-comers, or a supported amiibo can join you on as your doubles partner on the online courts.

So there you go. Get the game, get the classic, and enjoy some Mario Tennis on the Wii U! Check out these art selections and screenshots as well down below. You will also notice two very nice, themed Wiimotes.

Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival Brings a New Board Game to the Wii U This November

amimal-crossing-amiibo-festival-01

I have been a fan of Animal Crossing for a long time. I still remember the dread of seeing Resetti on the GameCube and the joy of a visit to the island to hunt bugs on New Leaf. I also liked Happy Home Designer for the most part, but now the franchise is branching out a bit more.

animal-crossing-amiibo-festival-art-01

Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival is coming to the Wii U later this year and is looking decent thus far – as we have never seen a true spin-off on a console for the franchise, and I must admit I am happy to see this title take form.

animal-crossing-amiibo-festival-box-01

Here are some details for the game:

By using amiibo figures from the Animal Crossing series*, players can take control of fan-favourite characters like Isabelle, Tom Nook and K.K. and watch them come to life as they travel across the board, trying to collect as many Happy Points as possible. Players tap their amiibo figure to the Wii U GamePad to roll the dice and move along the board, with each space involving their character in a short sketch. These sketches see the characters star in quirky adventures around the town, whether it’s singing at the station for more Bells (the local currency in Animal Crossing), taking a trip to the shops, or visiting the town’s museum. Sketches don’t just affect your Bells and Happy Points, but show the world of Animal Crossing and its inhabitants in fun new ways that are sure to put a grin on everyone’s face.

Each board game session takes place across an in-game month, with each turn representing a different day. Players can experience all four seasons, with each month offering unique events to participate in, from Fishing Tourneys and Bug-Offs to the risky but rewarding turnip trade. Every Sunday, Joan will come to town selling turnips, and players will have to sell any turnips they buy before the following Sunday. The turnip prices are different on each space, so you might land on a high-value space and make a bundle by selling your stalk portfolio, or see your investment aspirations go down the drain by having to sell them for less than you paid.

As Happy Points are collected, they can be saved to each Animal Crossing amiibo and used to unlock new emotions and costumes, with a total of five each per character. It’s not just your character’s appearance that will change over time, as the town can also evolve as you play. As you invest more time in the game, new buildings can be constructed in the town and additional routes can be unlocked, providing players with new ways to play over time.

Anyone with a copy of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer and a New Nintendo 3DS or New Nintendo 3DS XL system** will also be able to save any homes they have designed to an Animal Crossing amiibo card, then import it into Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival and see it appear on the game board’s town.

On top of that, players can use their collection of Animal Crossing amiibo cards*** to take part in a variety of minigames. Test your Animal Crossing knowledge in the Quiz Show, or pop as many balloons as you can and stick your landing on Balloon Island. In Desert Island Escape, make use of each animal’s different skills, find materials and evade enemies on dozens of islands as you attempt to construct a raft and float to safety within seven days.

animal-crossing-amiibo-festival-amiibo-01

I will say that I am worried about this release a tad as Nintendo do not stock a lot of Amiibos as they should and when the game revolves around Amiibo usage – well, it could become niche and forgotten quickly if that is the case as we have seen games like Mario Party completely ignored because of its usage of the toys (or limited usage for that particular title). Sure, there are Toads now, but I remember not finding any at time of release – and most gamers have no patience (myself included for that scenario), so lets see some stock and watch this gem be just that – a spin-off that we remember. Check out the art below.

Yakuza 5’s Protagonists Introduced with new Details and Screenshots

yakuza-5-eng-screenshot- (6)

It has been quite some time since a new Yakuza game dropped in the West and of course time progresses between each iteration as well so it only makes sense that Sega release some new details regarding Yakuza 5‘s five protagonists and giving us some information regarding their respective stories.

It is worth noting that, although we do have a bunch of new English screenshots, that the company took the time to note that they have not nailed down an exact release date for Yakuza 5 yet and that they “hope to have a solidified launch date to announce soon.”

Kazuma Kiryu
After the events of the previous Yakuza games, Kazuma Kiryu — the Dragon of Dojima — has retired from the Yakuza to be a common-place taxi driver in Nagasugai, Fukuoka, far away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. But when his junior (and more notably, the Sixth Chairman of the Tojo Clan) disappears, he is dragged back into the seedy underworld of Japan. Kiryu will once again need to rise as the legendary dragon in order to find his friend.

Taiga Saejima
Taiga Saejima is a legendary Yakuza enforcer, sentenced to 25 years in prison for allegedly murdering 18 rival gang members. After the events in Yakuza 4, Saejima gets re-incarcerated and just wants to serve his new sentence peacefully. But in Saejima’s case, “peacefully” quickly leaves as an option. Which will require his survival skills more? The interior of the prison walls, or the harsh Hokkaido winter?

Haruka Sawamura
Years after meeting Kazuma Kiryu, 16 year old Haruka Sawamura is living in Osaka to pursue her dreams of becoming a star on TV. At the start of Yakuza 5, she’s already made it to the finals of the Princess League, a competition between rising stars, where the winner goes on to have a successful career. But even though it looks so carefree and lavish, the life of an up-and-coming idol is not without its perils. Haruka learns firsthand just how dangerous the waters of the entertainment industry can be.

Shun Akiyama
Shun Akiyama is a dubious money lender who owns his own company called Sky Finance. He has a unique test that prospective borrowers must pass in order to receive a loan — he wishes to see how each will change their own destiny with the money. Akiyama is trying to set up the Sotenbori Branch of Sky Finance, but those plans get a wrench thrown in them when he receives a call about the untimely death of a former client.

Tatsuo Shinada
Tatsuo Shinada had a promising career in the major leagues, but it was cut short when he received a lifetime ban for a baseball gambling/game fixing scandal. Now, Shinada earns a meager living as an adult entertainment writer in the Nagoya region of Kineicho. But his (mis)fortune is in for a turn when a mysterious masked man confronts Shinada and tells him to uncover the truth behind his ban.
