At this year’s 2024 Tokyo Game Show and following the late summer demo tease, brutal comic book-inspired action-meets-stealth platformer SteamDolls – Order Of Chaos has debuted a brand new trailer, featuring the game’s star-studded cast and introducing new gameplay clips. While the title has debuted a new demo for Tokyo Game Show show-goers, the public demo for the title will debut on Steam on Thursday, October 3rd. This announcement was ushered in by David Hayter, who teased the game’s presence at Tokyo Game Show earlier with a video.

The title, originally teased to the public back in 2019, boasts a reunion of AAA voice actors from the Metal Gear Solid franchise (no relation to studio), including David Hayter, Christopher Randolph, and Jennifer Hale. It bills itself as a unique stealth-meets-metroidvania experience, with brutal combat and deep levels of exploration. The new trailer can be viewed below:

Originally conceived in 2019 based on a comic book from the development studio and then Kickstarted soon after, SteamDolls has been a passion project of its director. A small concept demo was originally launched at the time of original conception, which acted as a small preview of the original title. Since then, the game has changed significantly, undergoing a significant visual upgrade as well as an overhaul of gameplay. The original concept demo, which acted as a vertical slice presentation of the game’s concept, will be launched out of Early Access with this new updated demo replacing such. A separate, longer extended demo will be available separately for the upcoming Steam Nextfest.

The title has more to offer than just its AAA voice work. In-game, you’ll find yourself entrenched in the utter brutality of a labyrinthine city gone mad. Sleuth through the shadows of the world and lose yourself in every nook and cranny of this city – and the blood of its inhabitants. Taking the role of The Whisper (David Hayter), you’ll have to balance stealth and brutality to make your goals into reality. Assassinate your enemies and perform devastating finishers, or lurk in the shadows and slip between the cracks. Experience the narrative of the Steamdolls world, and delve into not only the story of this dying world but also the secrets found in its shadows. The tactical strategy game is based on Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII with Power Up Kit, complete with both the “All Officers Play” and “All Periods Scenarios” features, as well as a host of new content to deliver the most complete Romance of the Three Kingdoms experience to date. Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 REMAKE is now available to pre-order digitally before its digital launch Oct. 24, 2024 on Nintendo Switch™, PlayStation®5, PlayStation®4, and Windows PC via Steam®.

Beyond the battlefield, players will be able to enrich the lifestyle of officers through various turning points in life, including marrying a spouse and raising a child. In this title, players can gain “Spouses” of the opposite gender by meeting certain conditions. Players will form synergetic relationships with their spouses and gain various benefits such as support in “Missions” and “Training”, as well as “Link” and “Assistance “. There are two ways to gain a “Spouse”: either by deepening your bond with an officer or by completing events in “Tales”. Players can even fulfill romances that were not in history or marry fictional officers who appear in events and the spouse will then appear in the game as a regular officer within the same force. As players interact with their spouses, a child may be born, triggering events related to “Raising a Child”. Choices made by players in these events will influence the child’s abilities and sometimes the child may inherit traits. Once the child turns 16, they will come of age and join the force to which players belong. Moreover, when the child reaches adulthood or the player’s character dies, players can switch the protagonist to the child and continue playing the game. 

In addition, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 REMAKE introduces a new element which was not in the original game: “Wisdom”. This feature makes interactions with officers more crucial. “Wisdom” is needed for learning various tactics, skills and leveling up. It can be obtained through missions, battles, and by deepening relationships with officers. The “Wisdom” players receive depends on the tactics and skills of the officer they interact with, so players need to choose which officers to build relationships with based on the tactics and skills they want to acquire. 

To add to the experience, players will even be able to perform “training” at home. This allows them to gain experience in abilities such as strength and intelligence. Once enough experience is accumulated, the abilities will be increased. When an allied officer in the city joins for “assistance”, the amount of experience gained will significantly increase. Even if the initial abilities are average, with dedicated effort and support from excellent companions, the player character can grow into a top-tier officer. 

A new “Debate” system, which wasn’t in the original Romance of the Three Kingdoms VIII with Power Up Kit, will also be added to this title. The rules will evolve to become more strategic — officers will compete by the number of cards in their hands. While duels can change the tide of battle, debates can shift the situation during parliament. The rich voice acting of the officers will enhance the excitement. When facing opponents of similar ability, every move can be a decisive tense exchange that determines victory or defeat.

Game Vault has a packed schedule of games in October, featuring exciting day and date launches! Both hidden-object puzzler Hidden in My Paradise and retro racer Victory Heat Rally will launch simultaneously on Game Vault and other platforms, allowing Crunchyroll fans to dive into these games on mobile on day one. Earlier this month, Crunchyroll announced that it is teaming up with A PLUS Japan to publish the English global version of Lord of Nazarick—a free-to-play turn-based RPG based on the OVERLORD anime series currently streaming on Crunchyroll.

Crunchyroll Game Vault launched in November 2023 and now has a library of twenty-one titles, including River City Girls, Behind the Frame, inbento, Thunder Ray and more, exclusively for Crunchyroll members at the Mega and Ultimate Fan tiers in more than 200 countries and territories. With powerful worldbuilding tools and over 30 million MapleStory Assets to choose from, Creators of all levels can build Worlds for any game genre using the enormous library of MapleStory Assets or their own assets. Whether using simple drag-and-drop tools or advanced Lua scripting, Creators have endless possibilities to bring their imaginations to life. They can also design in-world and avatar items and set a revenue model. Players can then purchase these items.

Players have the freedom to explore and play any of MapleStory Worlds’ one-of-a-kind experiences.
