Dragon Age: Origins ‘Leliana’s Song’ DLC Details

BioWare’s senior writer, Lukas Kristjanson has been releasing some Dragon Age: Origins’ details on the upcoming DLC ‘Leliana’s Song’. Check out some of the information as you wait for the DLC to release in July. The below information further explains some of the details for the DLC, check out Travis’s original post regarding ‘Leliana’s Song’ here.

Leliana’s Song is a prequel for the character, that will have you playing through the “chaos of Leliana’s life as a bard and assassin”. This DLC is a standalone game and is told by Leliana herself. Since the DLC is a standalone chunk of game it won’t change the main Dragon Age story at all. Luckily the bonus item that you can earn will be carried into the main game. Leliana’s Song DLC will also be fully-voiced, which is a first for Dragon Age.

That reward item will be “a powerful new item for rogue characters” according to Kristjanson, and will appear in your Grey Warden’s inventory. Kristjanson wouldn’t reveal exactly what the item was though: “You’ll have to wait and see. Sorry, that’s a jerk move, I know”, he said.

The DLC is fast and concise. The DLC starts Leliana and her party at level 10, which enables players to be flexible with abilities and equipment. There will also be achievements specifically for Leliana’s Song, but Kristjanson wants to “let players discover the details” for themselves when the new DLC hits the Xbox Live Marketplace on July 6th.

Do you have a hankering for hot potatoes? How about some cold spaghetti? Or maybe some mashed banana?

If you’re from Australia or have a small child you know exactly what I’m talking about… but if you don’t meet that criteria I’m sad to say there is probably very little for you to enjoy in SingStar The Wiggles, the latest edition in the long-running console karaoke series.

For people who ARE in the target audience though, this game is better than deep-fried gold. SingStar The Wiggles features an extensive playlist going all the way back to the very early days of the Wiggles. No yellow-washing of their history here, Greg features in all of the songs you’d expect him to, with Sam only appearing in the more recent songs.

Looking at it from my son’s perspective the 20-song tracklist has most of his favourites: “Hot Potato”, “Fruit Salad”, “Toot Toot, Chugga Chugga, Big Red Car”, “The Monkey Dance”, and much more. The tracklist is very Greg-heavy, with only a few Sam-era songs appearing (“Dr Knickerbocker”, “Hot Poppin’ Popcorn”, “The Shimmie Shake”). My only complaint about the tracklist is that it doesn’t feature enough of the newer songs – I would have been happier if there were more songs from “Hot Poppin’ Popcorn”. There are no songs at all from “The Wiggles Go Bananas”, which is disappointing. That said, trying to please everybody 100% with a tracklist is impossible!

Gameplay is exactly you’d expect from a game in the SingStar series, with the songs inserted into the same engine that players of past versions will be familiar with. One change is with the scoring/accuracy; it seems that the scoring points aspects of play have been scaled back a lot to accommodate the presumably younger target audience of the game.

Parents be warned – unless your children are old enough, this is not a game you can set up and then leave. In some ways I think that for a lot of the Wiggles fanbase (children under 4 years old) this game will be used more by parents performing songs for their children. The karaoke aspect is certainly not going to come into play for that age group as they won’t be able to read the lyrics!

Overall, this game really requires two ratings – one for the general public, and one for parents of small children. So with that in mind, I would award the game 2 out of 10 for the general public. If there were more recent tracks to balance out the catalogue of songs, SingStar The Wiggles would be a perfect 10, but as it stands I award it a solid….

Even more images of Makoto in Blazblue

Remember yesterday when I mentioned that that Makoto Nanaya will be arriving in DLC form? We have even more screenshots of her now thanks to Aksys. As one can expect due to her tonfa style weaponry she will have to be fighting close up and fast, which will fit well for her squirrely nature. So she will definitely be a favorite for those who enjoyed Taokaka’s fighting style.

With her addition in the DLC, there is also a bit of a strategy guide included, with a Challenge mode add on. Plus if you were to face her online, it would not cause a problem if you do not have the DLC. Expect to see some squirrel girl achievements as well!

Kinects playable at Microsoft Stores

Microsoft Store’s twitter has announced that anyone who wishes to have a chance to demo the Kinect before November, will have the chance to now. They have also stated that Kinectimals will be playable now too.

If you happen to live near or in any of these four cities; Scottsdale, AZ; Mission Viejo and San Diego, CA; and Lone Tree, CO, you have the option to get a hands on, better yet a hands off, preview of the Kinect in person. The device is available for customers to play if they come in at the Microsoft Stores in these cities. Unfortunately these cities themselves are the only ones that have a Microsoft Store.

This is a bit unfortunate as this is far from a nationwide preview, being that only the western coast is being provided these Microsoft Stores and thus the Kinect. The rest of us will have to wait and see closer to November for every bit of extra information we can find about how this Kinect will turn out.

Dead Rising The Film

Just when you thought Capcom had nothing else to announce for Dead Rising ..

Well think again !!! Today Capcom have announced – Zombrex Dead Rising Sun, a motion picture inspired by the Dead Rising universe, will be distributed free of charge in both Europe and North America this summer.

Written and directed by Keiji Inafune, Capcom’s global head of research and development, Zombrex Dead Rising Sunfollows two brothers as they try to escape the zombie outbreak that has hit Japan and explores the darker side of human nature. Filmed entirely on location in Japan, Zombrex Dead Rising Sun, both pays homage to the zombie movies of the 1960s and ‘70s and provides links with the videogame world of Dead Rising.

I must say this has me very excited, anything that Inafune-san directs will surely be a smash hit.  This is something totally new and original,  Capcom have named this a new kind of “First Person Action” Film.

THQ merchandises Darksiders

darksiders

So you liked Darksiders? Did you like it enough to buy an action figure of War? THQ announced recently that they are creating a line of Darksiders themed toys.

So THQ isn’t actually the ones “creating” the toys but they are using the Darksiders trademark to get even more money. Udon Entertainment is creating an Art of Darksiders book featuring “a comprehensive collection of concept art from the game, including original artwork from creative director and comic book legend, Joe Madureira.”SOTA Toys is also releasing a 14″ doll action figure statue of War and his horse Ruin. SOTA states that this is just the first item in an eventual Darksiders line and we will hopefully see many many more.
