Able Planet’s NC300B Review

1

Sound is an important part of just about anything. Sound quality is something you don’t cherish until you hear it from top notch speakers. The kind folks at Able Planet we kind enough to send their NC300B model my way and I was rather impressed with what it offered.

Able Planet’s NC300B headphones are all about noise cancellation with clean, crisp sound. To run down some of the specs, this particular model has a frequency response of 20Hz – 20,000Hz with sensitivity at 1kHz: 115dB (Off); 121 dB (On), or to put it simply, the range of sound is excellent and everything you hear will be crystal clear.

A big part of this model is it’s ability to effectively block out most noise from entering your ears. You’ll have to actually turn the headphones on to start the noise cancellation, resulting in a slightly airy noise coming through the speakers. When you start listening to something the airy noise is rarely noticeable. The headphones don’t block out everything, however. I’m able to hear the typing on my keyboard, but not able to hear the fans running in my desktop (which tend to be pretty loud), barely able to hear someone talking to me a few feet away, and most low pitched noises are blocked out.

The NC300B is ideal for riding in a car and quite possibly a plane ride, seeing as how an airplane adapter is included. Having the headphones on for an extended period of time is barely a hassle. I had them on for upwards of six hours straight with very little discomfort. I enjoy how the headphones cup around my ears, making them ideal for long sessions.

Nothing but crisp and clarity come to mind when listening to music with the NC300B. I swear I’ve noticed little things here and there in songs that I’ve never heard before. While everything sounds wonderful, the bass can be a little underwhelming. When playing games is when I really noticed how well the surround sound works. This is the first time I’ve been impressed with surround sound technology in headphones. When something happens behind you, you’ll know.

Overall I’ve been extremely happy with my time using the NC300B. Mostly everything about this model is top of the line. The NC300B is available over at Able Planet for $150. If you’re looking for new headphones that sound excellent and provide pretty good noise cancellation, I highly recommend these – if you’re able to throw down the cash that is.

Tokyo Game Show 2010 Day 1 Recap

Hello Everyone,

Tokyo Game Show Day : 1

It’s been an amazing first full day in Japan for MasterAbbot and myself. After settling into our hotels (ho-te-ru :D), we attended the absolutely unbelievable Tokyo game show. From individual university projects to huge companies like Capcom and Microsoft, they had it covered. We began the day by collecting our press passes then at 10am we made our way into TGS. After that, we browsed the sections bit by bit and were blown away with the games you guys can expect to see in the near future. Microsoft’s very own Kudo Tsunoda, mastermind behind Kinect attended and MasterAbbot had a quick chat with him and was head over heels! (hopefully interview with the great man will be up sometime tomorrow – stay tuned).

We also have interviews with EA’s  Matt Webster on Need for Speed Hot Pursuit.  And for all you hardcore gamers our there we also have an interview with Hatta Aziz from Razer as he runs us through two great new peripherals, both of which will be posted shortly. A few stands that performed well were Capcom’s monster hunter  portable 3, with all the media; lines to play the game being full ALL DAY. Capcom vs  Marvel is another another fantastic hit. Both MasterAbbot and I played each other, and of course, he was no challenge for me. ;D I was hooked right off the bat and wanted to see more, and we’ll have more for you tomorrow.

The Sony and Microsoft stands were both fantastic with Move and Kinect keeping the media very busy.  The Square-Enix, Sega, Konami, Namco Bandai, Level 5, Irem and Ubisoft stands were also outstanding and full of fun great titles.  We’ll have more for you all tomorrow.  Check out Day 1 of images below.  There are quite a few (approx 200+) so make sure you scroll through the pages down the bottom one by one.  (there are 2o pics per page).

Let us know what you think.  We’ll have more news and interviews tomorrow along with some give aways  🙂  So Stay tuned 🙂

TGS 2010: New Kirby’s Epic Yarn Trailer

This latest trailer fresh from the Tokyo Game Show displays some of Kirby’s yarn-related abilities and simultaneous co-op gameplay.

In this cute platformer you will be able to play through the entire adventure with a friend, but that’s not all the video reveals. It also shows all the imaginative power-ups you will be able to use in the game to overcome the various hurdles you encounter. Such as racing car Kirby, a speedy way to navigate your way through the level, or alarm clock Kirby, who can be seen waking up a hibernating bear in order to alter the shape of the floor.

As you can see, Kirby Epic Yarn features a creative and cutesy game-world reminiscent of a children’s story book, and will appeal to the whole family when it releases in 2011 for Wii.

Fire Pro-Wrestling Coming to the XBLA With Avatar Support…

One of the most loved wrestling series is now on it’s way to the 360. At TGS, Microsoft announced the new Xbox 360 Arcade title “Fire Pro-Wrestling” which will be coming to systems in 2011. Go ahead and jump up and rejoice, fellow Fire Pro fans out there. There is a catch though, instead of the classic 2D sprites, players will use avatars which will have unlockable attires and moves as you progress through the game.

I loved the Fire Pro series and it is a franchise that is near and dear to me. I am worried however how the avatars seem unfitting for a Fire Pro title though. Seeing the avatars also made me wonder if the jam packed customization and deep gameplay the series has always been known for will be taking a hit which seems unlikely due to Spike! developing (Seeing certain avatars being in land mine matches would be awesome though). I may sound a bit optimistic which I am a tad but Fire Pro has always been the one series that stuck to the heart and soul of what wrestling games should be and I don’t really care to see an avatar as the mascot for a series that clearly stands on it’s own in gaming history. I do like Microsoft’s avatars though on their own and all I can say at the moment is I will be watching this game closely as more news leaks out as it is still very to soon to tell anything at the moment besides the little bit of news coming out of TGS. As I mentioned, since Spike! is developing this could have potential after all to be Fire Pro-Wrestling’s true step into this generation of gaming.

Team ICO Collection Details

It was recently confirmed at TGS that Team ICO will be releasing ICO and Shadow of the Colossus on one disc, in high definition, for Playstation 3. Soon after the confirmation, the team then gave more details as to what the collection will include.

Both games have been revamped to run at a constant 30 frames-per-second, along with a lot of re-texturing so they look as nice a possible. ICO will also have the European ending, which the American and Japanese versions lacked. Both games will also offer 3D support and trophies.

Here’s a trailer for the collection which is to be released Spring 2011. Man, this is looking good.

PS3 Firmware 3.50 Coming Sept. 21

0

Coming only two weeks after the release of firmware update 3.42, Sony announced that 3.50 is right around the corner. If you don’t have any 3D Blu-ray movies, or more importantly a 3D capable TV, then this update will be of no use for you.

Firmware update 3.50 is adding 3D Blu-ray movie support for your console. Even though the September 21 date was only announced for the Japanese region, other regions can more than likely expect the update to hit on the 21st, or soon after.

New Screenshots & Trailer Released For Okamiden!

Busy day for Capcom today as another brand new trailer and some new character art and screenshots were released for Okamiden. The trailer introduces players to Chibiterasu, the heir to Amaterasu from the first title and shows off a glimpse of the other characters that the young pup will be running into on this new adventure.

The music displayed in the trailer alone is beautiful and is sure to help capture the feel for the first game which was one of Capcom’s most stand-out titles on the PS2 when released. Along with this bit of new footage comes some nice new concept art and screenshots of the game which you can check out along with the trailer below. Players in Japan will be getting their hands on the title at the end of this month and the game will release everywhere else can take control of the Celestial Brush with Chibiterasu in the first quarter of 2011.

The Last Guardian Coming Holiday 2011

During Sony’s conference at the Tokyo Game Show, they finally let word out that the highly anticipated The Last Guardian will be on store shelves holiday 2011. This is Team ICO’s third project, first one on Playstation 3.

The Last Guardian features a young boy and a large creature named Toriko. The game will be an action adventure title with an emphasis on companionship.

Time Sensitive Achievements: Brothers in Arms and Saints Row 2

I don’t know about you guys, but I love collecting achievements in games; the sense of completing a game and putting it away permanently just feels so good. Sadly, there are some games that have time sensitive achievements in them. Achievements that can only be unlocked on a specific day are the most annoying of them, if you miss the day you have to wait another year to get it again. By the time the year is up, you forget about it and miss the day again.

That’s why I’m here to remind you!

If you have “Brothers In Arms” or “Saints Row 2” there are certain days coming up that will enable you to unlock certain achievements.

Brothers in Arms: Hell’s Highway

Remember September ’44 (50)

Saints Row 2

(Kin pin requires you to get 30 multiplayer badges, one of them requires you to either play on either September 19th (National Talk Like a Pirate Day) or on December 5th ( the Day of the Ninja). Thus earning you the “ARR…” badge.

Rumor: Muramasa and Odin Sphere Getting HD Ports

Following the confirmation of the HD ports of Shadow of the Colossus and ICO, 1UP claim to have it on good authority that Muramasa and Odin Sphere will be getting the same treatment.

According to the report, sources in Japan are saying Vanillaware is getting ready to release the two games as downloadable titles, rumored for Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network. Seeing Muramasa and Odin Sphere in HD would be a wondrous treat, seeing as how both games look fantastic already. Since this bit of news is only a rumor, you can expect to hear more as soon as we do.
