Pokémon Black & White sells 2.6 million copies in 48 hours

As some people get older their interests start to wane when it comes to games that they used to play, but there is one thing that it seems will never pass out of popularity, and that thing is Pokémon. The game had barely been on shelves for two days and it has already doubled the amount of sales from the previous iteration of the Pokémon series being Heart Gold/Silver. Heart Gold/Silver only were able to sell 1.4 million units in the first 48 hours.

One thing that should be recognized though, is that Black & White are far more different than any other Pokémon sequel since Red and Blue were released. There are new characters, a completely different world, an entirely different roster of Pokémon, (with old Pokémon only showing up after game completion), and much more additions to the fundamental Pokémon formula.

Unfortunately those of us outside of Japan will have to wait until Spring 2011 to see all of these new features in our own hands.

Purchase Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue and get free DLC within a week of launch

We’ve said before that it is amazing to see the sequel to DeathSpank already arriving quite early after the release of the first game, but now EA has even more good news for us. They have announced that those who purchase the sequel within a week of the launch date, meaning September 20th-27th for the PS3 and the 22nd-28th on the Xbox 360, will receive two additional bits of DLC for free.

This is good news for everyone that has been anticipating the game, considering one bit of the DLC is an additional dungeon to explore, and the other is another co-op character. If you happen to be a bit late with your purchase however you can still get this DLC, though you will have to pay for it. The “Snowy Mountain Dungeon” will cost $3 or 240 MSP, and the co-op character “Sidekick Tankko” will be only $1 or 80 MSP. Bear in mind though that players of the previous Deathspank game will not have their equipment or level carried over, but we can think of this opening week DLC as a bit of make up for that fact.

ESRB rating gives a preview of Dead Rising 2 characters

Games in the US always have to go through the ESRB to receive any sort of chance for release but these ratings usually are very cut and dry and can easily go unnoticed as the hype for large games who really cares about the ratings board at this point right? Well occasionally they can give us a bit of a laugh and even a preview as to what type of characters we may stumble across and the different zombies we will be fighting.

Below is the detailed rating given by the ESRB for Dead Rising 2:

This is an action-horror game in which players assume the role of Chuck Greene, an unwitting contestant on a “kill-or-be-killed” zombie game show. Players can use guns, swords, chainsaws, or flamethrowers to kill the myriad zombies and scattered humans. Large sprays of blood frequently occur and zombies frequently get dismembered and decapitated; for example, players are able to ride a motorcycle through mobs of zombies, sawing off multiple body parts. Cutscenes include the following depictions: zombies that rip chunks of flesh off humans; a man whose blood is churned out of him by an impaled spinning blade; and a man who drills a chainsaw into a priest’s chest. Some female characters are dressed in revealing outfits (e.g., skin-tight leather, lingerie, showgirl costumes), and players can enter a “Peep Show” or receive a “Peeping Tom” bonus. Some missions involve making, serving, and drinking alcoholic beverages (e.g., wine, vodka, and whiskey); if players drink too much alcohol, their movements may become erratic and they may vomit. The dialogue includes language such as “sh*t” and “b*tch.”

Sure sounds like a good time, and considering there will be no photography this time around, it will be interesting to see what that Peeping Tom bonus is all about, but then again we have priests getting chainsaw’d and a man being impaled on a spinning blade, so looks like everyone will be in for a good time later this month on September 28th when the game is slated for release.

Playstation Network Downtime on 21 September

0

As you may well have noticed if you are the proud owner of a PS3, the Playstation Network is currently offline. Not to worry though, because this is on Sony’s part due to scheduled maintenence of the service. There’s no need to worry, as if all goes to plan, the service should be back up later today around 5.00pm (PDT). During this downtime, users will not be able to access the PSN store, Playstation Home, or Account Management. Sony also warns that people may experince difficulties signing in.

The maintenance will apply to users in the following countries: USA, United Arab Emirates, Australia, Great Britain, Ireland, and New Zealand. According to Sony’s European PlayStation Blog, users can sign in to PSN before the maintenance begins at 16:00 (BST) on September 21, 2010. You should still be able to collect trophies during the maintenance, but your profile will not be updated until it is complete.

Bionic Command Rearmed 2 Interview & Gameplay with Rey Jimenez

I recently sat down with Producer Product Development at Capcom : Rey Jimenez at Tokyo Game Show.  Rey walked us through the upcoming sequel Bionic Commando Rearmed 2.  If any of you had played the original Bionic Command Rearmed on either Xbox Live Arcade or PSN you will instantly see a huge difference graphically as well as many new features and updates to this fantastic sequal that will be available on Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network very soon.

Everything you need to know is in the video interview as Rey runs us through a level and explains all the new weapons along with offensive and defensive components which are new to the game.  You can now JUMP !! Yes thats right, not only can you use your trademark hook to grapple and swing around from ledge to ledge but you can now jump and climb to as well which will certainly come in handy.

We spoke to Rey after posting this interview as we also wanted to let everyone know about the new “Biovision” feature.  When I saw this in the game I couldnt stop using it.  It’s MEGA cool.  Have a read on what Rey had to say about it.

We call it “Biovision”.  Instead of the info database that was used in the first Rearmed game, we have it so that at any point in the game, you can press RT/R2 to go into Biovision mode.  Using the Biovision, you can press A over an object to learn any details about it.  It will come in handy when you’re up against any enemy or obstacle and don’t know how to get passed it.  It will give you a clue on it’s weakness.

Enjoy the interview and screenshots below :

(Video can be changed to 720p)

Capsule Computers would like to thank Rey for spending the time to walk us through a level of Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 which will be available early next year on both Xbox Live Arcade & Playstation PSN.
