This Week On XBLA (12,20,2010)

Xbox Live is keeping with the holiday season and offering tons of content, including a Dead Space 2 demo and the beginning of 10 days of XBLA deals, which starts with Super Meat Boy for 800 MSP (which was 800 when released, but we will ignore the technicalities).

This week’s Deal of the Week is a bunch of Forza 3 DLC, these offer extra cars, tracks and a couple of Avatar items, all at half the price. Check out the full list:

This week’s XBLA title is “A World of Keflings”, for 800 Microsoft Points. We’ll have a review of the game on Wednesday to help any of you to decide, but I can tell you this: “If you liked the first game, you will like this game a whole bunch more!”

However, if building a world for the Keflings isn’t your thing then how about shooting some people up in the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam  expansion for 1200 Microsoft Points today?

No? Are you more into RPGs? Then how about Fallout: New Vegas’ Dead Money DLC which also comes to the Xbox Live Marketplace today and only for 800 Microsoft Points.

No? How about some price cuts for DLC you didn’t grab at the full price? A price cut for BlazBlue: Continuum Shift DLC arrives today, along side a price cut for Hydrophobia.

Not planning to buy any of that? Well, there are some Games on Demand coming this week as well, which include Red Dead Redemption and Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, for those of you who are still not playing Red Dead Redemption or want to jump into another Prince of Persia game.

Bulletstorm decorates its tree with style

Nothing makes it feel more like the holidays than decorating a tree. Everyone has their own traditions and some people may not even decorate a tree at all. But Grayson Hunt from Bulletstorm looks like he has a new tradition all his own. It’s a bit interesting to say the least as he decorates his Christmas tree with bounder grenades and dead bodies.

This is a must see video especially for those who are interested in hearing Grayson swear like a sailor to mellow holiday tunes. Plus we see plenty of different ways that the whip grapple can be used; but to be honest this is perhaps one of the best holiday themed trailers I’ve ever seen.

Word Lens, a Spanish Teacher’s Nightmare

Hello Spanish Teachers!

A new app has come to the Iphone that will put you out of a job. This app is called Word Lens and it instantly translates any spanish text into english or vice versa. Sure, there are some boundaries, such as it can’t translate fancy text such as cursive but there are rarely any signs in cursive.

Having trouble with that spanish homework? Five Dollars and you can ace all of that homework, which usually consists of just translating spanish text into english or vice versa (at least mine was, and that is the reason I still don’t know spanish). I really don’t know how they are going to manage to teach kids spanish anymore with this app. It makes the whole situation so easy! Tests might take a bit a maneuvering, but if you all take turns pretending you are sick so the teacher brings you to the nurse, the other students can then ace that test.

Check out the video below to see it in action. The app is free, but the dictionaries that translate words back and forth aren’t and they cost $5 (USD) each.

Huge Hydrophobia Update and Price Drop

Today brings a huge update to Hydrophobia and a change in the price. The new price is 800 MSP down from 1200MSP and it creates an extremely tempting purchase for those of you looking for a game to spend your free time with this Christmas holiday. Check out our review of the game here if you want to learn more about it.

In regards to the massive update, Dark Energy’s Joint Creative Director, Pete Jones, has stated:“Thanks to the bespoke procedural technology and data driven architecture of the InfiniteWorlds engine, we’ve been able to cram a huge amount into a tiny patch – to be honest we didn’t think it was possible to make as many changes as we have. The camera and control changes alone makes it play so differently; it’s a whole new experience. We have listened to what the community liked and disliked about the game; we know we didn’t get everything right first time around but we have taken this time to refine the experience.”

The list of changes is huge and incredibly long. You can either check out the video below for a taste of all the changes or scroll down even further to read the complete list of changes. Either way, the changes – both the patch and the lower price – are welcomed with open arms.

Fallout: New Vegas’ Dead Money delivers a sad Nightkin and hologram

So now there are a few days left until Christmas but this poor Nightkin is just so depressed looking that Bethesda thought that they would give him a bit of a present. That present of course is the glory of being displayed in a screenshot for the upcoming Dead Money DLC for Fallout: New Vegas.

Of course he isn’t the only screenshot we get however, instead we also were graced with yet another screenshot to show off what appears to be of some female hologram in front of the Sierra Madre. No information as to who the woman is, but thanks to the trailer that was released last week we do know that the Nightkin above may end up being one of your companions in the Dead Money DLC.

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge proves its still alive and kicking

Hunted: The Demon’s Forge may not have been seeing much in the way of representation in the media lately but that doesn’t mean that it has been forgotten. Sure Bethesda’s big announcement of Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim may be what everyone is looking at as far as Bethesda’s releases in 2011 go, but Hunted is also coming out next year lest we forget.

Developed by inXile Entertainment, Hunted: The Demon’s Forge just got itself a brand new trailer that it titled The World of Hunted. The trailer itself shows both the main characters Caddoc and E’Lara near the end, but the main part is the showing of what just is happening in the world of Kala Moor. Take a look below at the trailer if you want to catch a peak.

Frobot Jives Onto the WiiWare…

Independent developer Fugazo recenly released their first WiiWare title today by the name of Frobot and for a title that seems to have just randomly popped up during this hectic gaming season, I must say it looks to have a lot to offer. Frobot is a funky Robot who is determined to take down the Botblocker Corporation with his hair picks that upgrade his powers along with a vast assortment of moves and puzzle solving skills.

What can you expect from Frobot? Here is a list of features:

Frobot is programmed to make love, not war, but when his five foxy girlfriends get botnapped he doesn’t skip a beat takin the fight to the streets. Blast your way up from the Funkytown Slums to the BotBlocker HQ and get back what’s yours!

  • Burn Baby Burn – Earn powerful special weapons including the Robo Hustle dash and the Jivestalker disco ball to help take on the Man!
  • The Big Payback – Journey through a story mode filled with action, adventure, and fro-frazzling physics puzzles to rescue your girlfriends!
  • Find hidden power picks and upgrade your style!

It’s a fight to the last Fro in Frobot’s multiplaya arena! Face off with up to three of your friends on one TV to see who will earn the spotlight.

  • It’s Raining Guns – Access an expanded arsenal of funky weapons including the Bass Bomb grenade and the Heartstopper shield!
  • Do the Hustle – Unlock multiplaya maps by beating single playa levels in record time!

Fugazo have also released a trailer for the game which can be watched below. The trailer alone is easily one of the best previews this year comedy-wise and I must urge all of you Wii owners to download the demo at least now to check this one out. With a full single player campaign and “multiplaya” to boot, Frobot smells like a cult hit to me and at 1000 Nintendo points, your Wii certainly could use the Funky Love from this jivin’ robot.

LittleBigPlanet 2 beta user creates “Sony vs Marvel vs Capcom”

Little Big Planet 2 has shown off some pretty extraordinary creations made by the people currently in the beta. Since the game is still only a beta, one can only imagine the amazing stuff that will be created once the full game launches on January 18th 2011.

Below is a video of a fighting game completely simulated within the Little Big Planet 2 beta. Included are Sony, Marvel, and Capcom characters. Check out the video below to get even more psyched up for the upcoming release of the full game.

Nintendo Announces Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation For the Nintendo DS!

As someone who just got into the Dragon Quest/Warrior series in the past few years, I can easily say the series as a whole has grew to be one of my favorite RPG franchises period. Nintendo have now announced that the once Japan Exclusive Dragon Quest VI will now be headed overseas and on to the Nintendo DS with the new title, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Revelation.

This title has a bit of history to it as it was originally released on the Super Famicom over 15 years ago and later ported to the Nintendo DS in Japan with a full overhaul back in January. Now as for story, Realms looks to be more of the traditional Dragon Quest fare with a hero trying to save the world, but of course if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it and that should be great news to anybody who imported this title as it is staying true to the original formula all the way.

Here is a look at the Official Announcement from Nintendo:

DRAGON QUEST VI: Realms of Revelation features a rich storyline that leads players through a multitude of captivating worlds as they gather allies and battle fierce monsters on a quest to defeat evil forces. With updated graphics and more than 15 character classes to choose from, new and experienced players alike can dive headlong into the timeless role-playing excitement of the DRAGON QUEST franchise anytime, anywhere. They can even enjoy special features such as switching between character classes and letting monsters, such as Slimes, join their party.

“Millions of players around the world have discovered the timeless fun of DRAGON QUEST,” said Marc Franklin, Nintendo of America’s director of Public Relations. “The arrival of DRAGON QUEST VI: Realms of Revelation in North America will give fans unique access to a classic game in the series for the first time, offering new ways to explore and enjoy the DRAGON QUEST universe.”

I know I can’t be the only one hyped for this one as there really is nothing like the Dragon Quest games with the classic JRPG formula of grinding and leveling that fans should already know and love. Nintendo have already dated the North American release for February 14th, 2011. As for the rest of the world, the dates have yet to be announced but I am sure we will hear more on that soon enough. For now you can check out the new trailer below and check back as we will bringing you more coverage of Realms of Revelation as it is released.
